1st death in the UK
"underlying health problems" |
By:
None of us knew, but most of us were able to follow the advice of scientists and neither panic, nor fear huge numbers of deaths. Thankfully, they were right.

5 - 10,000 people die of flu in this country every year, without swine flu. Keep calm and carry on.

5- 10,000
That is one big margin. |

Tragic tragic day..may that person RIP.
To think that the Flu season does not start till Autumn is a MAJOR concern, like I keep saying. People can keep sticking up figures of normal season flu as much as they like but REALITY is this will be much worse. Maybe some will remoce the cotton wool from there eyes, REMEMBER .... CATCH IT, BIN IT, KILL IT. The skanks I have seen this weekend make me feel sick !! |
By:
I think stopping your eyes rolling is a bigger problem than noticing it. :)

how much worse Cath?

Rubbish STDYFORM..stop back tracking.
In Australia (Southern Hemisphere) It's spreadind quicker than anywhere..why do you think that is? |

how much worse Cath?
How many dead so far in Australia? How many dead in the last month in Mexico? What percentage of that countries population did it kill before it subsided? |
By:
sparkmaster I had you down as one of the more..educational sort.
Dear Oh bloody Dear ....you don't see the bigger picture do you? |

# Widespread; general. # Medicine. Epidemic over a wide geographic area and affecting a large proportion of the population ... Everyone is being whipped up in to a frenzy over nothing. Don't go panicking about something that hasn't even happened yet, and may never happen. it can mutate/recombine. i am not worried about the virus, i am worried what the government will do to try and combat it. |

If swine flu changes into a new strain there is nothing they can do apart from try and come up with another jab.
But anyone that will have the new swine flu jab (out soon) won't be safe against any new strain. |
By:
Just asking reasonable questions Cath, without getting an answer.
Yet again, you've informed us with a certainty the scientific experts lack, that people can keep sticking up figures of normal season flu as much as they like but REALITY is this will be much worse. How much worse? |
By:
sparkmaster
I'll explain to you, Like I have others on this thread. This type of strain is so much different from seasonal flu, take a little read on Spanish Flu and it will give you some indication of what will follow. |
By:
No, I won't. You're unable to clarify and back up your claims, despite repeated requests to do so. I'm hardly going to obey the command of someone scaremongering. I'll just listen to the experts instead.
By:
Who incidentally, are not saying this will follow the pattern of Spanish flu.
By:
So you say it won't then?
You are on the bandwagon that doesn't want the world to face facts on whats ahead incase the economy takes even more of a dive. For goodness sake , wake up lad. |

1st UK death today.
By:
It will get worse before it gets better.
By:
It won't what? Be greater than the toll for flu? I don't know, the evidence so far suggests it has a similar fatality rate, but beyond that I wouldn't care to speculate - I know a lot less than the experts.
As you're certain however, I'd like to know how MUCH worse you think it will be than flu, hence my question. |
By:
Jeez some people...
Sparkmaster Read back through this thread and you will know my concerns of how worse this will eventually get. |
By:
No.
By:
So you ask a question and yet you don't want to find the answer?
No pleasing some people !! |
By:
You're not going to believe this, but I had a meeting with the Head of Planning at the local council and, as we were exchanging small talk and before I stuck the boot in, he told me that he is the council's contact for the national bods in charge of flu outbreak - although that may not be the formal name!
He gets an email every single morning that he has to check. Rather bizarrely, it's always the same email, save for a running total of cases at the end. Apparently they are planning for a worst case scenario of a 2% fatality rate, although they're expecting a maximum rate of 0.5%. Ain't that a coincidence? :) |
By:
Influenza has always been around. The virus (any virus) can mutate amazingly quickly. The facts are though, that deaths normally only occur among the old and weak, or those with other pre-existing problematic conditions. I have to agree with earlier posters about the sickfest in the media, they just love to splash this stuff but none of the tabloid editors have came back and apologised for being completely wrong and over the top about SARS and Bird flu.
By:
No, I simply realise that someone, who instead of answering a simple question with a simple answer, demands that the enquirer goes away and reads stuff, is incapable or unwilling to answer.
Fair play to Tony Broke, really! |
By:
orioles, I can confirm via a business contact that the Scottish govt have been paying wads of overtime for "contingency work". You can be sure that the same is happening all over.
By:
Sars and Bird Flu totally different.
Why you ask? read upon it. |
By:
I'm leaving you lot to it. The French will never get swine flu ... will they? :|
By:
Sars and Bird Flu totally different.
Yes, but the scare stories were just as bad. Harsh as it sounds, this (flu) is a natural happening. |
By:
These lot just hate the fact that I told them what would happen..and true to form it's starting to take shape.
I cannot believe what I have been called on here, and yet I bet half of them won't come back to this thread now. |
By:
It won't happen, Cath, you're an embarrassment to the long line of bedwetters on here ... but you may crack 1000 on the thread, which gets you a free rubber sheet!
By:
how much worse Cath?
By:
Because you refuse to read back through the thread, catch22, I have resurrected some for you.
Cath22 28 Apr 13:13 It's called taking an interest, wanting to know the facts. Give it 3 weeks or so and we will see if the same people don't take this seriously. I obviously hope I am completely wrong about the whole thing and hopefully people like you lot were right not to give a ***** and show concern. Cath22 28 Apr 13:32 Once or IF this turns to a Pandemic it will still take around 6 MONTHS for medicine to be produced that will fight swine-flu. 6 MONTHS hear you say....exactly no good 6 motnhs..we could have thousands of deaths by then already if this swine flu continues to grow and spread likes it doing now. Cath22 28 Apr 13:47 Listen just because you name yourself an ** doesn't mean you act line one. Face facts and take the cotton wool off your eyes you blithering fool. Of course I DON'T want anyone to die, wether it's Mexico or not. When I say Yet you need to read my other posts mostly to you explaining the deaths in Mexico are probably because they have had this flu for around a Month they also have alot more cases obviously becaus ethey have had it longer. The confirmed cases in the USA are growing, the more it grows the more chances that there will be deaths. Not rocket science is it? Cath22 29 Apr 09:18 Manchester Airport are a disgrace imo. I've just watched on the News passengers arriving back NO FACEMASKS nothing, nothing at all, no screening unlike Heathrow !! What the hell are they playing at. Thats another hundre or so off that flight that will be walking around potentially carrying this swine-flu BUT they won't know it for a few days and by that time to late yet again. We need to pray that the friends and family of the two Scots have not got this swine flu and that there tests come back negative. If they come back positive we are in real danger of this getting out of control Cath22 29 Apr 10:14 A little yes. I hate not getting answers or the correct information. I had an argument with my friend last night that was moaning about all this because she wanted to book a holiday to Mexico for this summer. I told her what a selfish cow she was and rather than think about her own enjoyment think about the lives of others she puts at risk. I told her in no uncertain terms if she goes this summer I won't want to see her for atleast 6 months on her return. Always been one of these where it's all about me me me me BIG fuss over VERY little. And you never back down. |
