There is definitely a chance that swine flu will return in a more virulent form in the autumn. The 1918 Spanish flu started in the spring, then went away, then returned in September as the deadly form.
In the previous pandemic circa 1890, it returned each year for 3 years and each return was more virulent than the last. At the same time, we don't know if tose courses are normal or exceptional. Could be there have been many 'Mexican flu' type outbreaks that have just disappeared. We simply don't know. |
