Flan, I do follow Stoke, but I haven't been to watch them play for many years.
It must be over 25 years ago now, since I went. Should be a good game Saturday. We're in the usual disarray, with the manager saying he's leaving at the end of the season, the board (as ever) being useless and our star striker going AWOL! |
By:
AWOL striker Bangoura now back. Resentment from players and manager continues.
Now, back to the boxing. There is no boxing on terrestrial tv tonight. |

I've just been thinking.
I'm almost sure that the Tyson v B. Douglas fight was the last live heavyweight world title contest to be shown on 'free to air' tv. Those were the days. |

Boxing on terrestrial tv tonight:
Ch 5 - 01:25 - Fight Of The Week Ch5 - 03:00 - Boxing Classics - Ali v Cooper, 1963 and 1966 |
By:
No chance of me seeing those Tommy, working in London tomorrow, and need a haircut before work.
By:
Hello AITL.
It's ridiculous the time they show boxing on tv. At 9pm on Ch5 they are showing: The most shameful tv moments ever. Utter garbage, at prime time. I don't think I've seen the second Ali v Cooper fight since the time it was first shown. I'll have to set the video. |

Hello Ken.
By:
Hi Tommy, hope you are well. I watched Froch before and was underwhelmed. Do you know these fighters on TV at this moment?
By:
Black kid very**y
By:
but very good.
By:
No Ken.
This Maliginaggi is a bit of a showboater though. I thought it very interesting just, when Teddy Atlas wondered what kind of scales they have to weigh heavyweights on today. To think , Ali was only around 15 and a half stone when he was at his best. |
By:
TT, sorry, I missed Teddys thoughts. What did he say?
By:
He was talking to the bloke at ringside about Toney, asking what weight he was at the moment.
Teddy was making a joke about how enormous most of the heavyweights are now. |
By:
I really enjoyed that.
Good scrap, between two totally different styles. |
By:
What is this? Kick Boxing Tommy?
By:
Great to see the respect between the two of them at the end.
Boxing is the best sport in the world, for me. |
By:
I know, Ken!
It's a shame they didn't show the second fight, that they said was coming up on the American transmission. |
By:
TT, agreed. Even though though he was**y he showed ultimate respect at the end. I may have to put on my Ali v Frazier DVD :-)
By:
Ken, did you see that great documentary the other week about Ali, after the Khan fight on ITV1?
It was excellent. They showed both of the Foreman v Frazier fights on Ch5 very recently. I hadn't seen the second one, in 1976, since the time it was first shown. It really showed how the Thriller fight with Ali, had taken it's toll on Joe. |
By:
Ali v Cooper - 1963 and 1966. On Ch5 now.
By:
It's great to see these fights again.
How fast were the heavyweights then? Ali was fighting at 206lbs in '63. |
By:
Nearly correct - 207lbs!
By:
I've never seen this one before though.
Cooper v Erskine 1959. |
By:
Well, as usual, the tv schedule was wrong again. Both in the newspaper and on Ch5 text.
They didn't show the second Ali v Cooper fight. However, it was great to see the 1963 bout. As we all know, Henry was very unlucky having such prominent eyebrows, which were so suseptible to being cut. In the Erskine fight, in which Coop retained the British (and Empire!) Championship, he displayed his terrific left hook. Especially in the 12th round, where Joe was finally knocked spark out, on the bottom rope. |
