You're welcome, Huntingground.

20 mins to go for the boxing.

Tommy, we had a discussion about the greatness of Ali on this thread a while ago and my moniker was then KenJ. Khan will stop this guy tonight imo.
Predictions anyone. 4th round Khan for me. |
By:
Ah, hello Ken.
Nice to see you again. I didn't have a bet but I was looking at the price for the second round about an hour before the start. He was very impressive tonight. I like the bloke very much. |
By:
Off to watch Ali, back later.
By:
Yes - This should be an excellent programme, AITL.
By:
What a superb programme that was!
By:
Got it on video, but it's packed away.
Had to watch it again. Superb. |
By:
AITL - I was amazed when I saw in the paper that this was a repeat.I can't believe I missed it first time around.
I made sure to record it tonight though. Seeing the dates of some of the clips on the programme, I'm quite astonished how fresh in my mind those early fights were when I was such a little kid. I think the Cooper fight must be my earliest memory, other than the ratbag nurse in the hospital with the onion soup! |
By:
Good old boxer was Our 'Enery, just cut too easy, and also one of the last of the 13 to 14 stone heavyweights.
By:
I also remember him cutting very easily, AITL.
I can see now in my mind, the picture of him in the Daily Mirror where he was covered in blood and it was dripping down his chest. I can't remeber which fight it was though. |

By:
worse fight ever seen ;all joe bugner;s imitations of boxing was a bestseller;

By:
ali tom
By:
Joes second fight against Ali was much better.
By:
Was it Cooper's second fight against Ali?
I don't think he was covered in the amount of blood that I remember in the photograph in the first fight. |
By:
He got badly cut in both Tommy. By the time a photographer gets an interview it has tended to slow down with the heartbeat, but it's still all over you.
By:
I'm pretty sure the photograph wasn't from the first fight, AITL.
It's a shame Henry had such prominent facial bones, which meant he always cut easily. He certainly had a great punch - 'enry's 'ammer - on him. |
By:
Boxing on terrestrial tv later:
Ch4 - 02:30 - KOTV - Boxing Magazine. |
By:
Doubt if I'll make it, been up since 7-30 a.m.
I don't normally tire in stages, it comes on like a ton of bricks, and bed is the only answer or my right eye starts to play up and close, without permission, or waiting for the left eye to go with it. |
By:
I watched KOTV, AITL.
They had a piece about Alan Minter's son on it. He looks a lot like his father did before Hagler battered him. He seems like a nice bloke and his dad is giving him tips on ringcraft, although he is not his full time trainer. |
By:
By the way - the lad was wearing a tee shirt with a picture of Ali on it.
By:
Class.
By:
Indeed, AITL.
By:
An old girlfriend got me an Ali t-shirt in the early 70s, from a local market.
Well pleased I was. I put it on and we went out that night. His face was on the front, in colour, people were laughing but I didn't know why, so I took it off in the pub and the legend on the back was :- ' Float like a butterfly, sing like a bee.' It got binned the next day. |
By:
That's just made me laugh, AITL!
By:
How come this fell off the bottom? ^
By:
As I said YTommy, I watthed the Ali v Wepner fight, and am thinking of reporting it on here as you would hear it if I was commentating.
Maybe funny, maybe not. We shall see. |
By:
Tommy
watched Eye playing up - stressed... |
By:
I know, it really is funny, AITL.
The first time I saw it, I couldn't stop laughing - and do so everytime I see it again. |
By:
I'll look forward to your commentary on it, AITL.

At 9pm tonight, Radio 5 Live are talking about boxing with Steve Bunce.
Topics include: Valuev the new heavyweight champ, Khan, Young Muttley ( he got his name because his dad had a laugh like the cartoon dog) and an interview with Uri Geller, who has met many boxers, incliding Ali. |

It's on now.
By:
Uri Geller has now finished. Thank goodness.
Now: piece about Valuev. |

It was quite interesting last night.

There was boxing on Ch5 last night - 'Fight Of The Week' from the USA.
I forgot it was on. |

Ha!
I'm watching Midlands news on BBC1 at the moment. Jake la Motta was visiting Birmingham this afternoon. |
