Ah, what about Ernie Terrell?
Was Tammy his sister? |
By:
Just as an aside, I've just heard oin Radio 5 that Harrison has weighed in for the fight tomorrow at 18 stone 1lb and Williams at 19 stone 6lbs!
Ali and Foreman were both under 16 stone when they fought the Rumble In The Jungle. |

Ah, what about Ernie Terrell? Was Tammy his sister? Right boxer Tommy, but the wrong connection. Jean Terrell joined The Supremes when Diana Ross left in 1970. |
By:
My favourite is the cat fight that's starting on WIRELESS thread.
By:
Well, I'm glad to have got it - even if I got the wrong singer.
I'd forgotten all about Jean Terrell. |

There is 'boxing' on ITV1 on Saturday night.

when you think about british boxers in the last 50 years its hard to compile a list of great fighters on the world stage, but we have had some great fighters on the domestic scene who have thrilled the nation with fights for the british title/world title.
great fighters like terry downes, brian london, henry cooper, joe erskine, dave boy green, barry mcguigan, alan minter, joe bugner etc. we may not be great on the world scene but over the years british boxing has has produced some of the greatest fights with domestic battles. for me it has to be bugner against cooper if only for the fact that this was an end of an era. cooper almost had ali, well he did, but for that busted glove, cooper was in my mind the the last of the great british heavyweights. after that fight, heavyweight boxing changed we never had a true brit after that. whats your favourite domestic fight that thrilled the nation. |

There have been many great British fighters/fights.
Both of the Benn v Eubank contests were very exciting and who can forget the Eubank v Watson fight, where Micheal was undoubtedly winning, only to unfortunately suffer the tragic circumstances of one punch. I too remember vividly the Cooper v Bugner fight, which to my mind - and many others - Cooper won, but Harry Gibb, the referee, saw differently. Even Joe looked slightly embarassed when Harry raised his arm to announce his victory. |

By:

By:
thanks tommy ,looked like two lumps of lard to me , is this what heavyweight boxing has come to the has been against the hasent been & never will (if that makes sense )
By:
sorry sabre
By:
did you have a bet on it sabre
By:
That was without doubt, one of the worst heavyweight contests it has been my misfortune to witness.
I said over a week ago, that it was likely to be poor - but that really was abysmal. |
By:
Agreed TT. No bet for me Pumpy ,but i would've had Williams but the pair of 'em didn't seem worthy of fighting for my hard-earned somehow.
By:
if i had won a free ringside seat with top hotel and all expenses i would have gone home wishing i hadnt bothered, if williams is the best we have to offer then british heavyweight boxing is dead.

I'm afraid the dearth of decent heavyweights has been apparent for years**
I really can't imagine why anyone thought Harrison was a good boxer in the first place. As for Williams, well, anyone who saw him a couple of years ago fighting Samil Sam, knew about his limitations. I was sorely tempted to lay Harrison, but as they are both so poor, I left it alone - even in running -as it could have still gone either way. I wasn't even sure which way the judges would lean after the fight - a draw looked a distinct possibility. |
