i hope something is included that give the younger players, who don't know much old stuff a chance..
ie.. 90s/00s music or something, otherwise if u choose music the majority will just be 70's crap

____________

Andy , you'll have to accept that the older the player the better the chances . Wouldnt have much bearing on the dates ,but just general knowledge.

An 80+ year old should have the greatest knowledge provided his basic memory is in top condition

indeed coach.. thats why the specialist suibject becomes nothing without having a bit of speciality to it.. if i chose music, it would be good if i could choose 90s/00s music as my subject, rather than just music

i fancy i'd do better on that than most 60 year olds..

yet from past experience last year, all entertainment questions were aimed at the older generation

Study, the guidelines for Qs were posted on page 2.

Jimmy, any surplus home Qs will be used as GK to avoid any 'wastage'.

so can we at least confirm that, that is how specialist the specialist subjects are going to be.
"Music" nothing less general?

When: 20 Nov 09 14:54
Andy, it would be much less general than just 'Pop Music'. Each of the 16 catgeories will be divided into 20-30 sub categories, so Pop Music would have, for example, different eras and styles of music (eg. 70s/80s/90s music, etc; Punk, hip hop, reggae, etc.).

This would make the home Qs more general and less obscure than some of what we had last season.

so as my home subject i could choose 90's music?

or are you saying there are all those sorts of questions within the home subject of music, if i chose music?

FOR ALL PLAYERS.... NIRV's POST HERE ^^
By:

When: 20 Nov 09 15:12
sounds sensible
By:
Nirvana
When: 20 Nov 09 15:17
No, Andy. Pop music could be a home subject (as could any of the other 16 categories) but 90s music would be a sub category of that and, like any other sub in every category, could be used for one home game only.
By:
Nirvana
When: 20 Nov 09 15:18
*other 15 categories, not 16
By:
tobermory
When: 20 Nov 09 15:20
So if someone chose 90s Music , they could have it for 1 home game , and then have would have to play their other games on different eras?

Would it be ok if I compiled 48q's but not on science and natural world for example as I know nothing about these subjects and therefore would be ridiculous questions?
By:
Nirvana
When: 20 Nov 09 15:23
No tobes, different styles or other sub categories are possible. Remember there will 20-30 subs, so a wide range of options.

Players will also be able to choose more than one home category, which again increases their options.
By:
Nirvana
When: 20 Nov 09 15:26
Jockay, we only require 3 Qs on each of those categories. Surely you could manage that?
By:
jockay.
When: 20 Nov 09 15:27
whatever
By:

When: 20 Nov 09 15:28
I think people should have their subjects finalised before we start making Qs
By:
Shaky
When: 20 Nov 09 15:32
I share in Andy's concern about the questions being set for an older generation. I bet all the wrinklies in the league will set questions to their taste and most the tv questions will end up being tv history , most music questions will be music history etc. (i count everything over 20 years old as historical by the way) :)
By:
tobermory
When: 20 Nov 09 15:37
I think Music over a 20 year period is a reasonable subject , though i know almost nothing about post 80s Pop Music myself

If we knew people's subjects then i think there will be 4 or 5 people in the other league who would be knowledeable enough to set Qs for them

That way the Question Setters and Subjects would match up better ,and people would not have to set Qs on things they know nothing about (which is likely to result in sub-standard Qs , or so much revising work for the Organizers that they might as well have set those Qs themselves to begin with)
By:
Nirvana
When: 20 Nov 09 15:37
Shaky, that won't happen because there will be sub categories for each subject, eg. on TV there'd be 60s/70/80s/90s TV, ect. So any player with TV as a home subject can choose which sub categories they know best and leave the rest.
By:
Nirvana
When: 20 Nov 09 15:38
Tobes, those are good points and will we consider them.
By:
Shaky
When: 20 Nov 09 15:39
sorry Nirv, i just read andy's post and leapt on the bandwagon without reading what had been discussed afterwards :D
