Apologies if repeating what's been said. I agree with Andy that q's have had an old feel to them. Only way this will change though is by having more compilers of a younger age. I for one will be setting more modern questions for those in other leagues and I would trust that there would be others who would do so for mine.

If players provide three Pop Music Qs on different eras we'll be fine. Youngsters can do one each on the 80s, 90s, 00s and the wrinklies the 50s, 60s and 70s.

I'm young as you all know, but I appreciate that the average league quizzer is probably what, 38 or so? I expect all entertainment questions to be before my time, unless if they're about acclaimed subjects such as Spice Girls, The Office, Titanic etc. It's something I have to live with imo. I wouldn't expect to beat the top quizzers because I was lucky enough to go head-to-head on a question about Missy Elliott, which I'd have more chance of getting right.

It will complicate things too much if the topics were broken down into sub-topics. Who would decide the sub-topics, and how would it be decided who'd set the questions for which particular sub-topics? By the time the Admin team decided such matters, they could have spent that time instead making the questions themselves. ;)

Let's just have it all 16 subjects all-in. If you strike the questions lucky you strike them lucky; if not, not.

Dk, all entertainment Qs won't be before your time. We're bringing in sub categories to avoid this. You would only chose the eras/styles you knew, eg. 90s, 00s Music, and leave the others.

We've avoided having general categories only and divided them into subs to remove any bais towards 'old' Qs.

I am 42 Andy..but have always tried to put some 'current' Q's in my Quizzes where possible..whether that be 'News' or Music or Sport..

I think it is only fair to ask a Quizzer different eras..

either A) Who is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta ?

OR

B) Who is Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr. ?

This ensures anyone aged 20 to 35 can win Quizzes too

Dragon here are the 16 subjects

ART
CLASSICAL MUSIC (including Operas & Musicals)
FILMS & CINEMA
FOOD & DRINK
GEOGRAPHY
HISTORY
LITERATURE
MYTHOLOGY & RELIGION
NATURAL WORLD
PEOPLE & PLACES
POLITICS & CURRENT AFFAIRS
POP MUSIC
POT LUCK
SCIENCE
SPORT
TELEVISION

3q`s from each subject (Q1, Q3 multi A-f and Q5)

All questions must be to a high standar and shoudlnt be questions already heard on quizzes on here before. That makes up the first batch of 48Q`s wanted by early December, then they will require a further 51 Q`s on what is needed by mid Jan.

any move on making religion a stand alone subject
By:
blackjackking
When: 21 Nov 09 10:17
But as Nirvana has stated Dragon when you do one of the above 16 categories dont make all 3 questions from the same mould. For example if its sport dont write all 3 Q`s on football... maybe football, olympics and cricket

When: 21 Nov 09 10:19
Dragon its not for me to say mate about religion being a subject on its own, but IMVHO i dont think it would be very popular therefore to have its own standing wouldnt be worth while, thats why i think its been coupled anyway
By:
The Dragon
When: 21 Nov 09 10:33
thats the prob with this it puts us all into the same pot and removes uniqueness.

i am very strong on religion but it would appear u have to be a generalist to do well in this system
By:
The Dragon
When: 21 Nov 09 10:34
thanks anyway bj
By:
Nirvana
When: 21 Nov 09 10:47
Yes bjk, that's right. We've joined together a few subjects that, standing alone, would probably be unpopular and would not be viable as separate categories.
By:
Nirvana
When: 21 Nov 09 10:50
Drag, that won't be the case. Qs will still be available on players' favourite topics; it's just that this season the narrow topics are out. Eg. Qs on a specific TV programme are no longer allowed.

THREAD SUMMARY

As this thread has got quite long, it's worth summarising it:

1. Players are asked to provide three Qs on each of the 16 Home categories, ie 48 in total, by Sunday, Dec 14. All three Qs for each category should be different, eg. on Sport, players should provide one Q each on, say, Boxing, Cricket and Football, rather than all three on the same sport. More details on page 1 of the thread.

2. Guidelines to setting Qs are on page 2 (my post in bold, 19 Nov 15:49).

3. Players are also required to submit a second batch of Qs, 51 on GK, by Sun, Jan 24 - BUT should not work on these until directed to do so. This is because we'd like to target the categories where more Qs are needed after the first batch of Qs (Home categories) has been completed.

4. Each of the 16 Home categories will be divided into around 20-30 sub-categories. Pop Music would have, for example, different eras and styles of music (eg. 70s/80s/90s music, etc; Punk, hip hop, reggae, etc.). This would make the home subjects less obscure/specific than was generally the case last season.

5. Players will be allowed to choose at least two Home categories but each sub-category can only be used once. The exact format for Home categories is still under discussion but will be decided soon.
