The next Quiz League season is due to start early next year, but for it to continue to be successful we need far more players to be involved in helping with it.

Last season the small number of admin Team and quiz setters (a max 12 people) struggled to do all the Questions. With the next season scheduled to have 54 players playing 34 matches, each needing 6 questions, then 5,500 Questions are needed. That is a huge total and we need help to achieve it.

[b]So this time, it is only fair that anyone who wants to take part in the League must make a shared contribution to it. The

I have no problem with this whatsoever but I am just wondering if the quality of questions will suffer going down this route.
Also I feel from my point of view that questions on subjects I know something about will be of better quality than me being asked to make up some on subjects I know little or nothing about.

Pumps, we will provide players with guidelines and advice for compiling Qs. And remember that the categories will be more general than last year, so players having on specialised home subjects (eg. a certain TV programme) will no longer be allowed.

How many general Knowledge questions out of 99 ?

This is the end of the quiz league imo. Can't see more than 20 people compiling 99 q's.

It will be about half, p. Half home subjects and half GK, like the Qs in each match will be.

OK Nirv
Will start to jot down some general knowledge ones from here on in.

Compiling 99 Qs in over 60 days is not exactly demanding less than 2 questions a day (or 11 per week). ..
for decent q's if it took just over an hour a week , isnt too much too ask .

considering the season will take several months, maybe it would be a good idea to just ask for 49 questions until a later date, I am just wondering if seeing players have to produce 99 by some time in Jan may well scare some people off.
49 by the first date & the rest in March seems more feasable.
Only voicing an opinion, I will go with whatever is needed.

Andy, these are the Home Subject categories (as will be used in the upcoming Champions League event):

ART
CLASSICAL MUSIC (including Operas & Musicals)
FILMS & CINEMA
FOOD & DRINK
GEOGRAPHY
HISTORY
LITERATURE
MYTHOLOGY & RELIGION
NATURAL WORLD
PEOPLE & PLACES
POLITICS & CURRENT AFFAIRS
POP MUSIC
POT LUCK
SCIENCE
SPORT
TELEVISION

We would require 3 Qs on each of the 16 categories to be submitted by each player, so 48 Qs in total, by Dec 14.

seems fair enough to me. I personally think that people shouldn't have a choice of anything for their specialist subjects. Should give them a few options eg:

sport
geog
history
art
literature
tv
movies
etc

could split these further, for instance us geography, british tv. But Huddersfield FC or West Wing are beyond the pale imo

Pumps, we'd like all the Qs done before the League starts. We don't want to be chasing people up for Qs during the season. Having to do 99 Qs in over 2 months weeks is hardly demanding and once it's done, that's it for the season.

Looks like a difference of opinion here do you want 48 specialized quesions in Dec or 48 GK ?

What I said, p. I think joe was looking ahead to Jan.

Should add that 1 in every 3 Qs should be multi choice (six choices, A-F). We'll post more later about submitting Qs.

so are we picking just one of those subjects as our home subject? or 3 like the euro?
By:

We're still working on the numbers, Andy. In the CL it's 2, but it's likely to be more in the League to give players greater flexibility over the length of the season.

ok thanks nirv, i was kinda anticipating this is the way the new home subjects would be. im probably going to withdraw from the leagues, will decide in the morning when its earlier than this, and so im more awake to give my reasons in the way i want them to come across

Presumably the setters of q's will see their q's in other leagues to their own. Is the marshalling of this in hand?
Do you want specific q's from each participant, or is there a free for all?
By:
Nirvana
When: 18 Nov 09 20:17
Detials on who to send the Qs to will be given later. Players will obviously not be setting Qs for the division they're in.

Hi Nirv and all. So there are 16 subjects there. Is it OK if I come up with six questions for each, and also six for general knowledge, making it 102 altogether? You can use/discard as you see fit then.

Re what pumphol said, I know I haven't got much depth where the majority of topics are concerned. What I might deem to be a good question might end up being as easy as pie or so arcane that it causes anger among the quizzerers who have to answer them. If the Admin team is happy taking this risk I am happy to start (soon-ish) producing questions.

Was a decision made regarding multi-choice questions? Haven't seen the necessary thread for weeks.

Andy Murray ..I hope you don't andy
this is not hard andy ..

its hard when you have to do 1,000 questions like people did last year ..

More Qs is fine dk, though it's not necessary. We'll be checking all the Qs so don't worry to much about them being too easy/hard: they can always be amended.

The vote showed support for 2 multis per match (though now with 6 options, not 5), so we're sticking with that format.
By:
dk1986
When: 18 Nov 09 20:42
OK. Will aim to do five each each, and one multi-choice for each, if that sounds OK.

I think delegating everyone six for each topic would be preferable for most. I know I'd get bogged down if I had to dig about for 16 mythology/religion questions, for example, but if it's six for each topic I'm probably going to be happy finding them because I'll always be soon moving on to a fresh topic. :)

good work Nirvana , anyone who doesnt want to contribute can take the next bus out of town imo :)

Basically ,anyone who does a random Q on here would normally ask 20 or so Qs in one go ,so 99 over a longer period shouldnt be troublesome
By:
dk1986
When: 18 Nov 09 21:16
Aah. I got my maths wrong. Half of the questions will be GK won't they.

What about: 5 on each subject (80) and 20 for GK (100), of which 2 for each subject (32) are multi-choice and 6 GK are multi-choice?

On reflection, it seems sensible to me that everyone opts in first before the question-setting is finalised. 54 is the aim, but with all those questions needed it could always become as few as 40 taking part. Would rather wait and see.
