SNOOCH - Get a hold of a copy of GK Chesterton's "Everlasting Man" - he writes about a lot of the things you've been saying.

He has chapters about the Greek Gods, etc...but why stop at Greece?

What about Odin...Thor...Maradona...?

Don't be a lazy basturd, SNOOCH - order the book from yer library for 20p.

Take advantage of the dying days of the Labour administration. While you're at it, ask if they've got a history of Kilmarnock FC.

Fair play to you Vel, your only one of a few who defends religion on here, most of the others sit on the fence.

Your arguments have been flawed however just like your book, when on the backheel you've resorted to "because god did it." If anything tonight has reinforced my beliefs, when your god stops being so benign and stops talking through individuals (David Icke excluded as you've told me so) I may start thinking about it.

The Bible says Jesus descended into Hell (after his death on the cross) to set the captives free...I wonder if Dante and Michelangelo produced art based on this idea...?

The snooker's on if you can't be ar$ed with Dante.

Can I just make this clear? I don't defend religion. I'm not interested in religion.

I've defended the Jesus of the Gospels on here...and I'm not the only one...Tony has too.

Jesus is convincing,even compelling, as the leading man but God is love is a lightweight message and it soon goes downhill

So 2,000 year old men who have seen god has you more captivated than today's messiah David Icke. Who speaks the truth?

Jesus = God so that argument fails Dobbo.

I dont have an arguement other than to know in my heart and soul (for want of a better word) that it is sentimental nonsense.

And god also impregnated Jesus' mother so there's a bit of fiddling going on in that family, incest is rife around that time.

Vela - I've defended the Jesus of the Gospels on here...and I'm not the only one...Tony has too.

It is purely opinion based as you cannot provide any form of evidence to substantiate whether the whole thing is fact or fiction.

The Bible says the Earth is GOVERNED by the sun and moon...on its FIRST page it says this!

Thing is, the Earth isn't governed by the moon

See, you're using a word there, "soul", but how would you DEFINE it? Is it just a vague, farty term or do you have a specific meaning?

The Bible is very clear on definitions of the soul - I'll let you go first, Dobbo, then I'll post a definition...

Its a pointless discussion. You have more chance of peeing to the moon than you have of shaking Vels faith.Likewise he has more chance of leaping the Grand Canyon with his legs tied together than he has of convincing me that his God exists.

Oval - as i said earlier, I am neither a believer or non believer. I see myself as a realist. I need proof and facts in my life, not story books
By:

I qualified the use of the word soul. I mean the essence of me. The me that is me.I can't define it but neither Jesus or God or the plurality of the trinity are involved.

I was on that fence 5 years ago, now I know where I stand.

The more I read, hear, listen (including this thread), the more I am convinced. If there is an ultimate creator then he is very benign.

The Bible definition of soul :

It's the seat of the emotions...your likes and dislikes...your inclinations...it's what you think you want...it's the seat of your NATURAl (Darwinian??) personality.

The soul seeks to enclose the SPIRIT of man. So man has a body, soul and spirit...
By:
Velasquez
When: 13 Dec 09 23:00
So...you have a plurality - a kind of "trinity" there...the body being visible, the soul partially visible, and the spirit...invisible.
By:
Dobbo
When: 13 Dec 09 23:00
I'll take the definition. You hang on to the bible
By:
SNOOCH
When: 13 Dec 09 23:01
so,

Body=physical
Soul=emotions
Spirit=??????????????????????
By:

When: 13 Dec 09 23:02

I'm not interested in the provenance. I'll take it. Let me know when you find some more like it. I am making Xmas crackers at the moment.
