so the dead sea story is really a metaphor?

So the bible is how you interpret it?

So love thy neighbour means love everyone yet an eye for an eye gives Israeli's a right to bomb the feck out of Palestine?

Its all open to interpretation. Who's god is right?

As for Jesus feeding 5000...

"He is the upholder of all things. Even in his miracles on Earth, we have only the barest description. In a simple act of healing, think of the nerves, muscles, blood corpuscles, and other members he controlled...think of his control over the atomic structure of every bit of matter in the Universe..." William MacDonald.

Er...Jesus is God - he can do anything.

You've answered me with a "because god did it"

Where did he get the extra atoms from?

Maybe the story is a metaphor written 40 years after he died?

NO! A THOUSAND TIMES, NO!

Here's what Jesus says :

"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also."

Plus your quoting from scientists who are a tiny minority. You pick and choose your information without taking it all in.

Copenicus retracted his views because he was wrong with the majority. He's now spending the rest of his days in hell because the church was right.

But your picking things from your bible that suits you. Israeli's are picking things that suit them. Who is right?

Jesus said - about "An eye for an eye..." -- "It is written, "An eye for an eye..." but I say to you..." and he talks about forgiveness.

"Eye for an eye" is called (by Jurgen Moltmann) the "Apocalyptic Law of Retaliation" and it leads to seemingly ceaseless blood feuds.

picking and choosing again, isn't that a flaw?

Back to the same old vicious circle, I can reason with any argument but you haven't got one.

Your god is a very benign god, he hasn't appeared much in the past 2000 years.

As another poster says we need proof.

Ovalman - Jesus sat with the Pharisees and others and asked, "Man, how do YOU read it?"

God didn't lay down GRACE like the 10 Commandments, which were written in stone - the idea of the WORD is that He's writing it down in flesh and blood.

but you are all just believing a story in a book. Why should i believe its true

Do you think God is a big monster to be measured and poked with a stick?

don't be absurd.
the insane ramblings of some middle eastern cultists, recorded hundreds of years after the "events".

I was an agnostic Snootch until 5 years ago but as I understand more the answer has become clearer. God is made in man's image and not the other way around.

for the believers and them that pray - why do you pray ?, then when a tragedy happens why do you then pray for the victims families instead of praying and saying God, you**t, why did you let that happen? If you think he is in total control.
By:

When: 13 Dec 09 21:11
BTW I haven't ruled out an ultimate creator, its just that he a very benign one and the answer can be revealed without one. A believer with a made up god may die happier but he'll die anyway.

"... pray for the victims families instead of praying and saying God, you**t, why did you let that happen..."

SNOOCH - You're actually quoting the Bible when you say this - like the dialogue in Job, who is struck down - unjustly? - with terrible suffering.

Job's wife says, "Why don't you curse God and die?"

precisely what your doing Vel by interpreting the bible.... only your book costs lives. As an athiest I don't ignore the bible, in fact its a literary great but I don't live by interpreting it.

"...only your book costs lives..."

EH?

Mein Kampf? Mao's red book?

"ONLY" - that's not very "scientific" language, is it?
By:

When: 13 Dec 09 21:23
Or...then again...is it " 'only' your book costs lives..."

Well, it's open to interpretation...or is it...????

I'm listening to Mein Kampf audio book BTW, another work of literary genius. You hit the nail on the head and didn't help your argument at all. A well written book can influence people greatly.

Your book HAS cost lives (uppercase intended)

A preacher man? Right now, it looks like I am...but I ain't no pro preacher...

I will say this, though...

The only girl who could ever teach me
Was the daughter of a Preacher Man -

Oh yes, she was! Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, oh yes - she WAS!

She was !
