Think those that say its all fantasy have rather limited knowledge on the subject.

Firstly Jesus was a real person, was crucified etc etc etc. We know this as many historians of the time even document him and his followers. Wether he was the son of god you may argue but the actual person did exist (even Atheists who study the subject admiot this)

Also you have to diferentiate between the old testament and the new testament. The Old Testament are ancient stories passed down through word of mouth over the generations before being written down.

As further studies on many of the stories in the old testament continue we learn more and that many of these stories may have foundations as real events. For example Noahs Ark and the great flood. We now know that the black sea had a great flood around 7,500 years ago and that originally it was a freshwater lake. As this area was prob the most populated area in the world the devastation would have been huge.

So before people just say things willy nilly, maybe they should look into things a bit more.

No need to read the whole thing - yet!

It doesn't start with Genesis...not if you're trying to read it sequentially. It starts with "John" then a passage in "Isaiah". Here's the start:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."

Rather than reading it - or as well as reading it - get a hold of a tape or CD or DVD of DAVID SUCHET (yeah - Poirot!) reading the Gospel of John - New International Version (N.I.V.)

who translated it?
By:

When: 13 Dec 09 20:04
Wasn't the new testament 40 years old before it was put together? And wasn't there parts left out/ put in? Once it was translated into English wasn't there mistakes?

Its not a work of fiction but its a very flawed book. It may give good morals but nothing else, times have moved on.

The original (New Testament) was written in Koine Greek, which served as a universal language at the time.

The N.I.V. was translated by over 100 scholars working directly from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts. They are known as the "Palos Heights group" as they met in Chicago, 1966.

Vel you know I'm an athiest, we can start with the big ones.

Who created god?
How did moses part the red sea.
How did jesus feed 5000 with a few loaves and fishes.

I could go on but I'm not that well clued up on the book, its a decent fairytale for a 5 year old but I've grown past that.

Please tell me in scientific words, not "because god did it"

"Please tell me in scientific words..."

You gotta LUV that! Maybe you could get Simon Holt to do a "scientific" race call while you're at it!

It just isn't appropriate!

"As the director of the Human Genome Project, I have led a consortium of scientists to read out the 3.1 billion letters of the human genome, our own DNA instruction book. As a believer, I see DNA, the information molecule of all living things, as God's language, and the elegance and complexity of our own bodies and the rest of nature as a reflection of God's plan." DR. FRANCIS COLLINS.

Remember the opening of "John"? The WORD of God?

Ovalman -

Who created god?
How did moses part the red sea.
How did jesus feed 5000 with a few loaves and fishes.
--------------------

No-one created God. God exists outside our time and space. Time is a physical property of the universe...there's no time where God is. As Paul says in the New Testament, "To God, a day and a thousand years are the same thing..." (paraphrase).

I'm not bothered HOW Moses parted the Red Sea...I'm more interested in WHY he parted it...the parting of the Red Sea is a symbol of full immersion baptism : It destroyed the Egyptians (symbolically, the world, sin, etc.) and saved the Israelites (symbolically, those elected by God, etc...) Jonah's drowning in the sea is another symbol of death / life baptism.

"i will never believe an ounce of it until there is some scientific proof"

You're sort of turning "scientific proof" into some sort of little god there...what have you got in mind? Weights and measures? A time and motion study?
By:

When: 13 Dec 09 20:38
there is no proof he parted the Red Sea other than some fairy tale book
