CHAMPION HURDLE take the 10/1 power
|
By:
1000 per cent champion hurdle route.
|
By:
^ i'd take 100% personally, that'd do me.
|
By:
Arkle apparently
|
By:
That was a very promising run from Altior. Apart from one he jumped every fence well finishing a fence infront of his only challenger, Black Corton, trained by Nichols who was rated 131 over hurdles and did not jump badly by any means (just was not good enough)l
Altior is just 2/1 for the Arkle. |
By:
Yes very impressive. Looked a natural.
|
By:
Looks like he enjoys jumping too, very fast and accurate over a fence. Anything is possible.
|
By:
It was a good display of jumping from Altior, and if a comparison to Thistlecrack is a must for I'd say the former would score higher than the latter at this juncture.
Assuming Altior's hurdling form translates over to the fences, and after winning the Arkle next year takes the natural progression route to the Champion Chase in 2018, would that force the hands of WPM/RW/RR to divert Douvan to the Gold Cup in 2018? More than a gentle persuasion, I'd think. |
By:
I think Hendo will be thinking the Blue Ribband for this one. Some engine.
|
By:
Not this year of course, calm down calm down.
|
By:
Yeah i thought this was impressive round of jumping bar that one blemish, very fast and accurate and the first few fences i was particularly impressed. Could see why he would be cut in all honesty although this looks a potentially hotter version of the Arkle than we might have been used to the last few years.
|
By:
Come the day of the race it would not be a surprise if Altior starts a shade odds-on given his superior hurdling form if he continues to jump as impeccably as he did today.
|
By:
Very good round of jumping from altior, I'll be reserving judgement on whether he's going to win the arkle though until we see how yorkhill does, his performance at last years festival was the one that has stayed with me since then so I'm personally hoping he carries it on over fences.
|
By:
Im Yorkhills biggest fan, when he won the tolworth i thought he was toiling with them, good for 10L+
Without seeing yorkhill jump i am leaning to Altiour, looked a natural. But value pays for dinner. I hope they aim Yorkhill at the 2 mile hurdles, then again he may not be in the class of the others. But their is something special about Yorkhill wherever he ends up in. |
By:
Yes, with the stable being so strong in the CH department it seems they are going to be covering all bases and Walsh was already planning how he would get to ride them all the following year with his comments as soon as he got off of yorkhill after the Neptune.
I personally think he battered yanworth and was clearly idling up the run in, only my opinion though, but that's what it looked like to me. |
By:
I feel only Yorkhill would give Altior a race. If yorkhill didn't go, then i suppose from the Supreme i think the other chaser i'd take from that was Buveur. Henderson would separate them if they were both fit.
|
By:
Charbel ran respectably in the Supreme and was apparently very good on chase debut at Uttoxeter in a quickish time - Le Prezien and Top Notch have both franked the form since (Henderson would obviously have a line on that form through Top Notch).
I read a quote from Bailey suggesting Charbel will go for Henry VIII where he knows he'll have to take on Altior - I'm not saying he'll beat Altior but it would definitely be a more competitive race than yesterday - it's a good idea anyway because if he struggles to make an impression on Altior over 2m they can plan for JLT. |
By:
We shouldn't write off min just yet who's going over fences also, Ricci said the other day that he was schooling well and apparently did injure himself in last years supreme, be interesting to see how he takes to fences.
|
By:
This season's novice chases could turn out to be rather competitive with the likes of Altior, Min, Yorkhill and Beveur D'air (BD), the four with the best hurdle form from last season; Altior, Min and BD all ran over 2m with Yorkhill over 2m 4f; Altior and BD will be kept apart - Altior (Arkle) and BD (JLT) - the only unknown is Yorkhill. As Yorkhill ran over m 4f last season I'd expect he will do the same this season ie JLT or RSA.
Altior was very impressive when winning the Supreme last season and as such it is highly unlikely WPM will aim Yorkhill against Altior in the Arkle; I believe Min is the more likely candidate from the WPM camp for the Arkle. |
By:
I don't think at this stage they'd be frightened of anyone with Yorkhill, certainly wouldn't be worried about dropping back in trip. For once wylie may have the upper hand over ricci with regards the arkle.
|
By:
I wouldnt be so sure that Altior and Buuveur d'Air will be kept apart. NJH is bound to have a few in each race imo and they both look like 2 milers to me.
OOSeven already looks a likely type of his for the JLT. |
By:
And Novice Hurdlers duffy. I think Invitation Only looks better than any of the RR mob that we've seen and Battleford could well be too.
|
By:
BD was murdered by Altior in the Supreme, and BD just managed to win over 2m in his final race last season; OO7 is more likely a RSA candidate the way he was 'toyed' with by Yorkhill in the Tolworth over 2m.
|
By:
Not according to NJH, who said after OOSeven's win at HQ a couple of weeks ago, that he would keep him at 2m4f for the foreseeable future. There is absolutely nothing to suggest he wants 3m at this stage and putting him in the gruelling RSA would be an odd decision for me.
I wouldn't read much into the Hurdles form myself. OOSeven has always looked like a Chaser. Yorkhill is a speedy horse who might yet remain a hurdler. And getting beaten by him isn't any disgrace. He's clearly a top class animal. |
By:
CCM,
007 could still run in the JLT alongside BD - I think Hendo reckoned that could be BD's max distance - but I think 007 is better over a test of stamina trip. I'm not worried about Yorkhill should he run in the Arkle against Altior; if Altior puts in a clean clear round, on form he should win, all things being equal. |
By:
Well Min throws down the challenge
Now 4-1 |
By:
Altior is class personified, and the same result as the Supreme Hurdle even if Mins runs. Could Min dodge Altior and go JLT instead?
|
By:
There is another scenario
CH Mullins horse dont make it Suddenly Yorkhill is there main hope Would hendo switch tack? |
By:
Hendo will never switch Altior unless it is the Champion Hurdle eg Faugheen and Annie Power absent, as he's only 7 next year. But Altior could step up in trip for the Gold Cup eventually eg 2018/19, I believe.
However, Min could go the JLT route and Yorkhill the Arkle (doubt it myself) or RSA is a possibility if WPM intends to separate these two. |
By:
We find out on Sunday ,If Yorkhill (which i expect)
Goes Hurdling We may have another twist |
By:
Backed Min @ 6/1 this morning, and again straight after the race at 5/1 - reminds me very much of Sprinter Sacre who was equally well beat in the Supreme but was different gravy over fences and thrashed his Supreme conqueror (who fell) in the Arkle.
Repsect Altior and Henderson immensely but at the prices it has to be Min. Identity Thief is the other I fear but not sure Cheltenham suits him. |
By:
If one is to back the 'fav' for the big races now eg Arkle, Champion Chase, Champion Hurdle or the Gold Cup there is little value left to extract whilst in the other races, the majority of the fancy horses do have multiple entries and options making it more difficult to decipher with confidence the race they will eventually run in eg The RSA, World Hurdle and Ryanair, I think.
|
By:
Would love to see Min and Altior clash in the Arkle. If Min is over this supposed injury, strengthened up over the summer and takes well to fences it could be the match up of the meeting (bar maybe a tip top Cue Card and Thistlecrack in the Gold Cup)
I like Min but the problem I think he has is Altior is just going to prove to be different gravy unless something freakish happens. I rate Altior's hurdle form higher than that of Douvan. |
By:
still not convinced altior will run in arkle
|

still not convinced altior will run in arkle
|
By:
Nice performance from Min today.
Although Altior deserves to be favourite for the Arkle (at least until tomorrow) have to wonder if they wish they had chosen to go down the Champion Hurdke route. Yanworth vying for favouritism now and you'd think Altior would be in a different league to him over 2 miles. |
By:
Even better one from Altior today, and a similar result in the Arkle as the Supreme last season is expected after today's performance, I think; Altior exudes CLASS!
|
By:
min will take altior if they both get there.id still say theres a slight chance altior will run in ch hurdle..its at his mercy..just a feeling i got..
