Jesus.... Unfortunately, #ArcticFire is out of @CheltenhamRaces. It looks like he has a little chip off a sesamoid bone which will need to be removed - https://twitter.com/WillieMullinsNH/status/702187974159638531

If they don't supplement Annie Power now (nailed on surely), we look like having a CH with Identity Thief going off as the jolly

^^ If they were on the fence about AP then i think that news just made up their minds for them. Can't believe we will see her in the CH.

Starting to like TNO chances here, had a great prep according to NTD... people forget he was 100/30 to beat Faugheen last year. Wont be trying to chase the pace either... Just the jockey that puts me about! 8'1 is massive!
By:
8/1*
By:
Another one bites the dust; 1st Faugheen and now Arctic Fire. I'm leaving this race alone - it's cursed!
By:
Earlier today W P said artic fire had the ideal prep for the champion hurdle, hammered in a 3 miler, beaten 15 lenths @ 2 miles if that is the right prep i know nothing about this game after 60yrs. WHAT A LOAD OF BULL
By:
its AP to lose now, again not an open contest unless you know any horse in there that can run to 169 to beat her? if she's back to her best we'll need one of 172 to beat her. Identity Thief can improve but still a question mark if he can reach those levels, needs to jump better..
By:
The race is wide open annie has done nothing @2mls to make her fav, thief had a very hard race the last day not a great preb, but what about the horse that destroyed him last year @ 33/1, very few have had the ideal prep
By:
CAnt believe The New One is still 9/1.
By:
@john IT's a different animal from last year, he had a hard race but he's been given a rest unlike NC. What makes Annie fav is that nothing can give her 7lb on her current form, now that Arctic is out. If she underperforms, I won't be surprised to see NC winning another G1. All his life second string and winning most of them. Sempre no chance, he'll do well to go again so close to Old Guard who is bound to improve from his Bula win.
@CCM TNO came undefeated from the `14 CH so thats why he went so low in the betting last year. Now there are few improvers in the field and he only just beat Hargam and OG in the Xmas Hurdle, those two are 20/1 and 25/1 in the market. What I don't understand is why is MTOY in front of him...no race for 2 years... |
By:
It's impssible to gauge what Annie's rating is over 2m, all her big ratings achievements have been over 2m4 or 3m.
TNO is 161, but you'll know he'll run to that figure over 2m, Annie is 162 (so effectively 169) but you don't know if she can run to that sort of number because she hasn't ran over that distance for over 2 years, and that was when she had 25lbs on Doyley Carte. It will take a good one to beat her, but after a poor prep, hardly ever ran at the distance and the race being an after thought, I think there'll be one too fast for her. Camping Ground (who I talked down earlier) is also a 2.5 miler, but he is properly race fit, younger and 12 times the price. |
By:
Old guard had 2 runs and hargem had prior run before chel sempre first run not saying he will win it but i will be betting he finishes in front of those two to me he is a 16/1 chance
By:
Spot on Chief...well mostly. I actually think with the prep she has had, and the fact she is not campaigned as a 2miler,means she is bloody awful value. I expect more than one to beat her.
Now watch her do what I thought she could do two years ago ![]() |
By:
TNO will win the champion hurdle and don't know how it's still the price it is

This race needs rescuing.
Owners of Un De Sceaux,I ask you to sincerely consider supplementing your horse for the CH. You can win the QM next year. Your sport needs you.......but don't tell Mr Ricci!! ![]() |
By:
Don't mention the "S" word Budd, it'll all kick off again
![]() Annie is probably the only "superstar" name in the list, her name wouldn't look out of place if you were to look back in 10 years at the list of winners. Arctic Fire being out does help her cause, but it helps all of the others too. I'm going off MTOY by the minute; just thinking of how Big Bucks came back a shadow of his former self and he only had a year off, so for Tent to have two, I don't know? To think Big Bucks ended his career on 159 when he was 174 two runs before. I've changed my mind about 4 times in the last day or two for this race. |
By:
Don't get me wrong,I think a lot of her,and a couple of years ago I thought she was going to be a superstar.
But due to bad luck and imo poor campaigning she's not one, well not proven one. Yet to win at the festival, and the one she was unlucky not to win was only the mares race. Now she could get her chance in a big one by default,as she was not even considered till a few days ago(or was she)!! And even if she wins people will look at the opposition, and wonder about the superstar tag. Been messed about ain't she. World hurdle, then the mares, now the CH. Maybe the reverse order of races would have been better for the horse, but probably not so convenient for those closest to her. |
By:
Will be nice to see The New One storming up the hill to victory. Overdue but worth the wait.
By:
I have not missed cheltenham since for auction in 1982, and i can tell u it takes a very good horse to win the hurdle all the winners are stars

You right there Johnoo, they are all stars.

"She’ll work on Thursday and closer to the time if she is working the house down I’d imagine she would be supplemented and if she isn’t, she wont." - Walsh RUK blog
Not many get there that don't deserve to win @budd, but you're right there are average renewals but relative to recent years you forget ROR was 158 rated coming into his CH, Peddlers Cross 162 when 1 length of winning it in 2011, Zarkandar went off @ 7/2 in 2013, Katchit was 159 rated , Punjabi 162. Think I'll be happy with NC, IT, MTOY, TNO or AP winning this year and consider it a good renewal but depends on the finishing positions so lets just wait maybe 1-2 years later until we judge it. And btw how many G1 over hurdles has UDS won? Thats right, none. I don't know what he'd bring to the table in terms of quality. He might bring excitement for punters but thats about it. |
By:
She is a cert in the mares, vroom big chance in stayers, that leaves RR with a chance of the treble with sempre in the hurdle
By:
Just had a lovely oscar colt foal born roll on the 2021 hurdle, its a great game the dream is allways alive
By:
Timtin, I have never once said this is an average renewal. But it does seem some think it may be. We have to wait till the race is run and subsequent events before really knowing how good it is.
As for my comments re the race needing rescuing with UDS,that was a tad tongue in cheek my friend, after the Annie Power situation surfacing. Mind you I do think he would add some intrigue to the race, and yes certainly excitement!! Personally think he would win it,but that's pointless, cos it simply won't happen. |
By:
Just to add:
I feel I have to stick up for my favourite horse here Timtin. For a horse to win a Grade 1 he has to be entered and run in one!! He got entered in a few but alas his trainer never allowed him to run in one. Unlike his chasing,in which hes racked up a few Grade 1's, and likely a few more. I don't think there is any doubt we are talking about a Grade 1 horse here, and personally I reckon he s a better hurdler than chaser anyway. But that's opinion,as I have no evidence to back it up thanks to his trainer. |
By:
Foyles,
Apologies for going off topic a tad,as this is the Churdle thread, and UDS is in the Champion Chase. I just cannot help sticking up to the unfair criticism this horse gets. |
By:
Come on, this isn't off topic, we aren't discussing UDS in terms of what he'll do in the CC but what he'd do in the CH. I didn't criticized UDS, I only said I don't know what he'll bring to the CH without any G1 to his name especially giving the amount of G1s hurdle novices these days you'd think he'd get at least one, then he also had one season in open company and his trainer never thought of going for a G1 with him.
He's such a small horse for going chasing and if his trainer thought he was good enough to go for the CH he'd rather do that instead of going for fences risking his life, literally, with his jumping style. I'm not saying he can't win a G1 over hurdles because my wasted money was on him 2 years ago for the CH but I'm wondering why did his trainer thought he's not good enough for continuing his hurdling career the next season. |
By:
I am not one of the more vociferous about this issue on here, but I think the answer to that lies with Willie having Faugheen in the stable for a certain Rich Ricci.
Bud - I agree that UDS would be my idea of the winner if he was in it. Top-class horse. Simple as that! |
By:
But for Douvan being a very warm and justified 'fav' for the Arkle I believe Douvan would be the rightful sub for Faugheen in the Champion Hurdle.
By:
Oh Yes Tom,hes certainly top class.
Just wish he had got the chance to prove it over hurdles, but unfortunately he was not allowed to run against Hfly and then Faugheen. We all know about the yards politics. Timtin,he was obviously though of as Grade 1,he was entered in them. I remember Ruby saying he was the real deal as well. Was all very frustrating. Still, hes proving top class over fences now,so im well pleased with that. Impossible, maybe we should get a petition going....Douvan and UDS for the CH ![]() |
By:
.. horses gone chasing will never win a champion hurdle, they lose their speed at the obstacles and if they weren't considered good enough for staying hurdling then how do you expect them to comeback after 1-2 years and be relevant in it? Ridiculous... |
By:
timtin
I agree to a certain extent that a horse running over fences will tend to lose some of their speed when reverting to hurdles: I also believe Douvan has been over more hurdles than fences and this season is his 1st season over fences, is it not? |
By:
He was considered good enough, but they had other horses given preference at the time Fly and Faugheen, so they went chasing.
We have no idea what would have happened had he stayed hurdling, you don't and nor do i.I think he would have been top class,as he is over fences,or is certainly becoming anyway,i guess you don't. Not much more needs to be said. This has been done to death before with UDS,i don't want to go over it all again. |
By:
They are not exactly slow coaches these 2m chasers!!
Both Douvan and UDS would be huge threats in the Churdle imo, especially one without the top hurdler. |
