Possibly barnesey. Gollings said he prefers soft but wasn't ground dependant. Time will tell

Our thoughts on that SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT folks
![]() I'll be hoping to see him at the fez in the RSA as have a nice 33/1 ticket. According to jockey there be fine on good good/soft and he beat some good horses there, is this meaning their looking at it? Sure hope so! ![]() |

certainly a possibility,was good there.
The JLT may also be a possibility. Think Blaklion will go RSA and also Le Mercurey. They look to me horses that would prefer a step up. Not so sure re SYAM. RSA could be a fair race this year, they may go the easier race....well potentially looks easier to me. |

Surprised some were not impressed with NHM the other day - sometimes it's not what you beat, but the way you jump and travel, and for a novice he is almost foot perfect. The quality of the race will be a million miles from a fast paced RSA, but I'd definitely want NMH on my side than against him.
I have my doubts about MOT as I think he may be a bit fragile for an RSA horse, but without doubt one of the classiest hurdlers to go staying chasing in recent years. |
By:
Me too chief,very surprised.
Sounds like some wanted him winning a distance. He could have won more in my view, but why do that now?? It's all about experience at this stage, and he's getting that and proving he can jump very well. No novice has been more impressive at 3m this season. |

I think No More Heroes is a worthy fab for the RSA. If you were to list the most important attributes you need in a horse for the race they would be 1. Good jumper
2. Stamina 3. Natural ability. I think he has shown all of these in spades. His jumping so far has been fantastic and I think it will be MORE of an advantage to him the quicker they go as he'll be able to make more ground at his fences. Stamina is definitely not an issue as both Trainer and jockey say he stays all day and the further he goes the better. On top of that Cooper said that he does have a bit of toe so is not slow either. Going by his hurdle runs last year especially when he beat Shaneshill over 2 1/2m and should've won the Albert Bartllet he has the ability to win the race. He was a bit inconsistent last season but I believe it was because he was a bit weak and raw. This season he has been so dominant in his races and has strengthened up a lot. Again both trainer and jockey said last season that he was a chaser in the making Ang we're seeing that now. He reminds he of Don Poli in his jumping and Stamina but NMH hasn't got his quirkiness were he's always on and off the bridle and that will help him travel better through the race. I feel he has it all when it comes to what you need in an RSA horse and I hope he gets there on the day and shows what he can do. |

Very impressive debut by Drumacoo yesterday at Huntingdon in a hot little race. 400 days off the track and he beat a decent yardstick in Fletchers Flyer (OR140) by 38l (possibly didn't fully see out the trip) with the others strung out behind - Value At Risk fell early.
He couldn't have done it any more easily and if, as one would expect, we see some improvement in his next run or two - he could well enter calculations. I expect he will be rated around 145-150 for that, so one to keep an eye on and I'm involved win and place for small stakes at present. |

By:
Be careful with Ante Post on Drumacoo as Ben Pauling says may go for JLT also. Will be entered in both. Maybe he wants the softer option, but you had to be impressed with him yesterday even if the principals didn't run to expectations.
By:
Cheers for the heads up Shockster, hadn't seen or heard that. Maybe worth requesting him in the 'Win any race' market.
By:
Hope not Shockster, all he seemed to do yesterday was stay on soft ground. Funnily enough I had my concerns that he might end up in the 4 miler but he wasn't in the betting, JLT never entered my head!
Looks talented though and one I'll be following from hereonin. |
By:
Yep, when they start over 3m like yesterday, then you don't imagine they'll drop in distance after a win like that. Looked smart though.
By:
Haven't seen the race but he'll have to come out and do the same again if he's to be considered a legitimate RSA contender. NMH all the way for me for the reasons I stated above.
By:
He does certainly jump well. That was pretty impressive yesterday, and the 25 available is reasonable price.
Tempted me anyway. |
By:
With Value at Risk falling at the 2nd the race fell apart a bit. Also the fact he went off at 12/1 suggests he wasn't particularly fancied to win the race.
By:
Yeh,I am a NMH fan,and he's for me the most likely winner.
However, when I see a horse perform like that and he's still a decent price,I take note,he really could be anything and the price allows a stake that suits me. Yes the main rival fell, but I would take nothing away from what I thought was really impressive jumping and he travelled so well. Maybe he won't be good enough, but I am more than happy to have him on my side at that price. |
By:
More of That is a very classy horse judging by his World Hurdle run and easy chase wins to date. 20lb ahead of NMH over hurdles which is not the whole story of course but still a lot.
By:
Exactly sage..
By:
More Of That is no doubt classy and with hugh potential, and as it might even run in the Gold Cup hence its bigger price than No More Heroes; I'd expect a price contraction when the RSA participation is confirmed and will probably start off 'fav' on race day and justifiably so, ensuring a great race in prospect.
By:
yes of course More of That has better hurdle ratings,he won the World Hurdle while NMH was still running in novice races.
Over jumps this season I have been more impressed with NMH,hence my feeling he's the most likely winner. I do however respect MOT and a few others as well. |
By:
In fact NMH had not even ran in a hurdle race when MOT won the WH.
I imagine NMH would have gained a fair bit higher rating had he stayed over hurdles, but he's gone chasing straight away,so he's probably just simply a chaser, and he certainly looks one. |
By:
Quite possibly Bud but there is not much collateral form between English and Irish novice chase form and More of That has won on faster ground. NMH beaten about 25 lengths (equals 25lb) by Thistlecrack over hurdles in April.
By:
How many horses in the last 10yrs have won a novice chase at Chethatenham having spent more than one season over hurdles? I don't know the answer but I'm guessing it would be pretty low if any at all.
By:
How many horses with MoT's ability have done it though? I imagine it could be a very misleading stat.
By:
Smad Place was rated 11 lbs more than O'Failans Boy over hurdles, but he didn't win the RSA. Like I've just put in the Barters Hill thread, hurdles form will give you a decent base to start from, but NMH looks all out a chaser.
It could be a positive that they just went straight to chasing with him. MoT will be a tough but to crack but the RSA is a gruelling race and I think NMH has more scope. |
By:
None of the last 23 RSA winners had more than one season over hurdles. 20 were novice hurdling year before, and the other 3 either came straight from bumpers or missed a season.
I love stats but I'm wary of this one. The angle is that if they are out and out chasers they will spend no more than one season over hurdles. MOT technically had 3 seasons over hurdles. He had one run in novice and won, then went on to win the world hurdle in second season and then, very understandably, tried to defend his crown. |
By:
Thanks for the info Tony. I just think if they thought MOT was a chaser he wouldn't even have went hurdling the season he won the Stayers. I just don't like it when horses who have had multiple seasons over hurdles go chasing. They can learn bad habits over hurdles that make them less natural chasers.
By:
Given MoT has only run 8 times in his life and is an 8 year old, I think he's a bit of an exception myself.
By:
I really get your point of view, and with say Smad Place in his RSA I wouldn't have touched him with a barge pole. He obviously very nearly smashed the stat to bits but there you go.
With MOT, he was still only 6 when he went on to win the WH, and had only had 4 career starts in total come the March. That's different to what this stat normally applies to I think. Smad Place had 2 runs on the flat and 14 starts over hurdles before he went chasing. |
By:
MOT has had one more run over hurdles that NMH, yes we know that injury permitting it would have been more, but in MOT's case we're not talking about a confirmed hurdler that they are trying to turn into a chaser, he won the WH quickly on only his 5th start and surprised all concerned in doing so.
With hindsight it's probably fair to say he'd have ended up in a championship hurdle race at the festival in 2013 if he hadn't missed the rest of the season, then they probably reckoned he needed a full season hurdling before jumping a fence, he then proceeded to surprise everyone by rising up the hurdling ranks in double quick time and winning the WH. From there they took the option of trying to defend it for a season but that went wrong and now we're here, we shouldn't think that because he won the WH, he must only be a hurdler because in effect he won that as a practical novice. He's looked every inch a chaser in his two runs to date chasing and they've both been at Cheltenham and he won't mind quicker ground, he's got a hell of a lot more going for him at the moment than NMH IMO, although NMH is obviously a quality horse. |
By:
What has MOT done over fences that makes him a better chaser that NMH except for the fact that he's won his chases at Cheltenham?
By:
Absolutely nothing. I've backed NMH and not MOT yet simply due to his target being slightly up in the air. FYI, if he were mine, and as he is 8, id run him in the Gold Cup.
I also think he has more natural ability they NMH. If they both run in the RSA then we could be in for a humdinger and I can easily see both of them fighting out the finish. Add the likes of Killultagh Vic and it could be a classic, unlike absolute trash race that was the 2015 renewal. |
By:
Killultagh Vic is a better horse than NMH IMO, the 14's available for that one for the JLT is very big, it looks very much as if that's where he is going to end up and the market hasn't reacted yet, probably down to the fact that he's only had the one run and he's very much the lower key one within the Mullins stable, much as he was last year.
By:
Why do you feel so sure he will go for that race Duffy? Considering WPM has Shaneshill, who looks a very worthy fav, and only Pont Alexandre, who has plenty of question marks, potentially going for the RSA? I reckon Killultagh will be their first pick RSA horse for Ruby to ride.
By:
They started him over 2 and he's got an entry in the Irish Arkle. don't think he'll run in it but it just perhaps shows their thinking. He's going to have one more run before the festival so where is the 2.4/3 mile run too....I hope he does go RSA as I've backed him for that one and not the JLT yet...but am seriously tempted now. I love him and would have him 1st choice for either race.
By:
Cooldine ran in the Irish Arkle before eventually running in the RSA, so hope yet for you Duffy.
By:
After his debut win, pretty sure WPM said he likes to keep them back in trip when it's testing ground but was still thinking of him as a staying chaser.
But do think he's one of the toughest to pick a target for. Could probably acquit himself well in any of the three novice chases as he has bags of pace but stays well. But seeing how Shaneshill has proved he doesn't stay 3m, and KV has proved he has, I think they will split the, up. Of all their chasers, Douvan - Arkle, Shaneshill - JLT and Killultagh Vic - RSA look their three best and the ones I reckon Ruby will want to ride. |
By:
I backed NMH the day after the Albert Bartlet last season (still drunk from Gold Cup day). I got him at 12/1 then backed him again at 8/1 after his chasing debut so I'm happy with that. Would I back him at 3/1 today? Probably not. I think he fits all the criteria needed to win the race no problem but I think I'm sitting pretty with what I've got.
By:
Exact same here Giggsy - I think he was 14's for a while with Hills, but then got clipped into 12's. I started the "I've already placed a 2016 bet" a few days after.
I'm probably looking at it through rose tinted glasses, but I do really think he will be a top drawer staying chaser. I might have a small saver on MoT though, because I can easily understand his supporters viewpoint. MoT has without doubt achieved more on the course, as has Killultagh Vic, but sometimes you just get a gut feeling about one, and I do for NMH. |
By:
Chief I am exactly the same. I'm seriously thinking about backing MOT because I think he is a class act. Because I backed NMH at 12/1 I'm convincing myself that he is a cert.
