Dunguib!! Come on, he won at odds of 2/9 beating trees in slowly run mud in Ireland.
Cousin Vinny, seriously?? He lost his debut over hurdles to some horse called Hurricane Fly. Vinny wasn't even first choice in Mullins yard, Fly was the star and fav for Supreme but missed the festival. I don't see what listing hot pots that got beat at the festival is going to do. They're nothing at all like what Peace and Co did and a performance that had the respected timeform giving him a huge mark. The time backed up a stunning visual performance. I fully understand not wanting to back him at the short price he is, I wouldn't either, no real upside backing a 3/1 shot antepost in Dec. That's a perfectly sound approach. But you have to admit he was stunning on his debut, he clearly looks a great talent and we will see if he can back it up next time. |

Bristol De Mai looked very nice coming up the hill at Chepstow

Bristol De Mai very impressive destroying Karezak and Golden Doyen on UK debut.

|
By:
Another one for Munir in the shape of Bristol De Mai. Daryl Jacob says Peace and Co. is better suite by good ground but Bristol De Mai likes the muck.
|
|
By:
Needs heavy ground though
About as much chance as Elvis reappearing ![]() |
|
By:
Yeah from what Jacob said there I don't know if we'll see Bristol De Mai in the Triumph hurdle unless it's soft, but who knows. Owners will decide that. They've 2nd fav for Supreme and top 2 in the Triumph. Some good times ahead for the owners.

By:
Chepstow is a very good indicator of Cheltenham form - very similar courses. Much more so that say, Doncaster.
|
|
By:
I know someone in the yard and they were confident of a big run today, as Jacob thought he was a heavy ground horse.

Bleh - sick of betfair bickering. Every post needs a reply and it's the same ****, people dislike a horse and go at it. People like a horse and defend. What's the point in all honesty?
|
|
By:
Just ignore the tools Conor.
Plenty of people actually want to discuss horses and their chances. Certain folk only come on and their comment is "can't win". No theories. Even their comment on the prediction thread was two horses in the same race. Think they own the forum. |

just had a quick look at Bristol's pedigree, not much to go on with his mum and dad but his grandad is Sadler's Wells and the damsire is April Night whose progeny included the useful Lavelle hurdler from a few years back Tocca Ferro who did most of his racing on decent ground.
I would n't profess to be an expert but there does n't appear to be any evidence just yet to suggest he would n't be effective on decent ground. I think the Finale was quite a decent race too, some of the principles obviously underperformed but Karezak is a good yardstick and he ran OK. Puts me in mind of when Brindisi Breeze went to the Festival a couple of years back after beating Harry Topper in a slugfest at Haydock and doing all his racing on soft (different race, different distance admittedly) - anyway if Bristol turns up at the Festival unraced on good to soft or better (pretty likely), my default assumption would be that he'd be just as effective on it in the absence of any evidence to the contrary (I get the argument that others may be more inconvenienced by soft/heavy going thus making him look better but he still looked pretty good to me). |

CV
Surely this is the enjoyment of the build up? The journey is often far nicer than the destination. These debates are the amuse bouches before we start the meal in March. |
|
By:
just to be clear I'm not crabbing Peace and Co's obvious chance, merely pointing out that because the other horse is big and heavy and has won in testing conditions, it does n't necessarily follow that he won't be as effective on decent ground, though if connections are unwilling to test that theory, we may not get to find out.
|
|
By:
Don't let them grind you down, CV. It's all part of the crack and we appreciate you. I love seeing someone
give a reasoned opinion and showing some enthusiasm. Maybe there should be a section of the forum that has an IQ test for prospective members. You'd get in.... but would I? ![]() |
|
By:
I don't mind debate at all. Just when it gets to intransigence, it's repeating the same things.
I just don't understand how it's possible to knock a horse who's debut was so impressive, hurdling, distance he beat decent rivals (look how far the 3rd horse was beaten the time before giving weight to Hargam) and the time he did it in. Knock his price, note caution etc.. that's fine. But I can't see how you can knock the horse. |
|
By:
Only ran once ffs. I'm actually surprised you've backed it given it's not trained by W P Mullins

Ach calm down CV Byrne. I only jest. I know you are the President of the Willie Mullins love-in year in year out telling us all where the overrated Irishman is going to run his novices and merely find it amusing. That is all.
The adoration you have heaped on Peace n Co....superstar etc (after one UK run). I find it enlightening. I wish I had your emotional attachment to horses. |

By:
The key to having this game by the balls is to see the special ones earlier than everybody else.

By:
Of course...I mean no harm. Hopefully Peace n Co turns out to be everything you hope and dream he is....personally I shall wait till I see a horse running a few times before I attach superstar status to it.

|
By:
Well it's clear you are not new to Betfair forums and so it's just a new alias on a new account. Which means you need to change who you are.
I don't have any interest in trading insults, I'll leave that to you of you don't mind. |
|
By:
The trouble is CV Bryne, if we dont agree with you, we are fools and yet my knowledge of this sport, goes back 15 years further than yours, so I dare say i know a thing or two and on occasion I , like many on here, are worth listening to.

|
By:
Dunguib was and is a perfectly good horse to highlight made mincemeat of opposition in hurdling season could have won by how far he wanted, went to cheltenham and was unplaced.
|
|
By:
Anyway, back to the subject.
Peace & co hugely impressive, but the owner now has another impressive winner, and trainer says hes confident of his class and sees no problem with decent ground. Top notch runs for same owner tmrw at Newbury, what does he do come Cheltenham with 2...possibly 3 real good juveniles. I know what I would do....one in the Supreme to go with Lami Serge and 1 or 2 in the Triumph. Be interesting to see what is finally decided. |
|
By:
Does it matter if have been watching the game longer? Does not mean you are better at selecting winners or your opinion is more worthy.
At least CV puts forward a horse to win a race. I can't recollect you putting a horse up for any race to be honest. |
|
By:
Come on lads.....Peace and goodwill to all men and all that.
|
|
By:
The emergence of a horse like Bristol de Mai is a good example why I never wanted to back Peace and Co without knowing the opposition.
Probably won't happen, but if the ground did come up heavy on the Friday, I'd rather be able to choose between them on the day based on the conditions. I was very impressed with him yesterday. |
|
By:
CVByrne is a top poster. I can remember him posting a fair few winners over the last few seasons with very informed reasoning to back it up. I wouldn't care if people had knowledge going back 15,000 years either - not sure there's too many as informed as CVByrne.
Peace and Co. looked a seriously classy horse on his first run and CVByrne on his own didn't make him favourite for the Triumph. I will also say one thing about Peace and Co. - We might not know the full extent of the opposition but if there's a better one when it comes the art of hurdling itself, I'll be surprised. Wellchief you could say that about any antepost horse race, especially the novices. It's very hard to be sure of the opposition until the end of February. We won't know the ground for absolute certainty until very near the day itself although if you work off the belief it'll be good to soft, good in places or good to soft, soft in places, you'll very rarely end up being wrong. |
|
By:
I accept that mate, that's why I don't go in big on novice hurdlers antepost, because most of them will never have been to Cheltenham or possibly raced on such fast ground.
My point is on Peace and Co is if his backers may regret lumping on at 3/1 with the Supreme now a viable option, and the emergence of a formidable opponent if it came up soft. At least if you lump on Faugheen at 2's you know largely who he'll face, what their ability is, how well they hurdle under pressure etc. |
|
By:
Think it fair to say the Triumph is more likely to produce a latecomer than any other race, with many trainers not having their 3yr olds ready before the new year.
Of course we are looking at a bit of a freaky season with the juveniles, in particular with reference to one owner having at least 2 - possibly more - fair chances, which could well result in latecomers to the Supreme. |
|
By:
whatever the pros and cons of it cv has put up and backed his judgement and has a very decent bet at 10s , he saw something special in the performance and acted quickly with hard cash and then put up his opinion on the horse (not many would be so bold )how many truthfully would like to be in a position with peace and co at 10s and 8s ? ,I know I would and its not my type of race, I have missed the boat regarding price, but peace and co still the likeliest winner of the race at this stage imo
|
|
By:
Dead right Foyles, and agree with all you say re CV. I would love to have 10's, and credit to CV and anyone else on at that sort of price.
I missed the boat as well, and no way would I take current prices, but yes hes the most likely winner at this stage. A lot can Stiil happen though and 10's would be a nice cushion, current prices not imo. |
|
By:
I respect anyone who comes on here and gives their opinion but backs it up, and makes a good argument (there are plenty of people like that on here). There'll be plenty of times when I don't agree, but each year I've learnt quite a bit off these forums, so its just a case of choosing whose posts you take note of and whose you don't.
Has Hendo outlined any plans for Peace and Co? Adonis or maybe the Triumph Trial on Trails Day in February? |

Does it matter if have been watching the game longer? Does not mean you are better at selecting winners or your opinion is more worthy. At least CV puts forward a horse to win a race. I can't recollect you putting a horse up for any race to be honest. Missed the point terribly here. Does it matter ....No , not at all but does it mean I'm not allowed to post a point without getting gunned down (several times). Where did I say my point was more worthy? I said my point (and a few others) was worth listening to. This really was a poor post and written to suit an argument. |
|
By:
Sadly the forum has become a little over run of late with people who like to talk but not debate, Brandyontherocks is a prime example of this and I'm taking a break from it.
