I just don't see anything similar between Dunguib and Peace and Co.

Wasn't comparing them as animals was comparing them as betting propositions. It could just as easily have been a 4 miler or a flat horse - just meant hes the horse who I most thought had the world at his feet (just before the supreme) and then in hindsight wasn't that great. Well done if you thought he was a dog before the supreme.

Lots of horses who ran in the Triumph have won at Aintree even if they did not win at Cheltenham. It actually has a good record of producing the winner of the Aintree race.

Yes of course CV,lami serge in the supreme, but will he be joined by any of the 4yr olds?? Especially if they are all fancied for the Triumph!! I just don't think Hendo would want 3 in the Triumph.

Dunguib price for the Supreme was a joke .....he could not jump well.....peace and co has already proved he can jump after 1 run!!
If Peace and co jumps and wins like that again he will be a short priced fav,and unlike Dunguib it will be justified.

Well done for not backing him. Jumping weren't great but still won four over timber with the handbrake on so that just seemed like more of a positive at the time. Kauto was already well on his way to being 'great' before he perfected his jumping.

Very true, but Triumph winners don't have the best record. Beaten horses sometimes have an easier race. Also Aintree is more speed over stamina that the Triumph is.

I'm quite sure Barry Geraghty will be riding Lami in Supreme and Peace and Co in the Triumph.

Geraghty doesn't ride Hargam, so who trains him doesn't matter. Similar to Valseur Lido and the Giggenstown horses in Mullins yard

You need a real tough one to win the triumph. Katchit, Zarkandar, Zaynar, Celestial Halo etc. The only flashy one I can remember recently is Our Conor. I'd like to see Peace and Co in a real race first. Then again, he could do an Our Conor and I hope he does.

I only go Monday to Thursday and I like to have a bet in every race while I'm there. I never go Gold Cup day so feel less pressure to have a bet, which is why I'll leave this race.

Well aware of all of that CV but you suggested the Triumph should be avoided as it's not conducive to winning the Aintree race when actually it is a good experience for a horse going on to Aintree.

Top Notch runs over xmas at Kempton, big run there and owner has 2 Triumph candidates.......that's where the split might come at the festival CV.
Hope not for you mate, but it may cross the owners mind.

As said before same owners have Lami Serge and Vyta Du Roc for the all age Novice hurdles, might as well have 2 in the Triumph as 2 anywhere else.  There's also the Fred Winter for the number 2 4yr old?

Why is every threat becoming like this? I said owner should save one if he has 3 horses. Everything seems to divert away from the actual topic of horse. Not blaming you sint, far from it. But every thread/topic becomes its own beast.

Anyway as far as Wonderhorse goes, I'll find out in the coming months.

It may be controversial to suggest it but I'm inclined to suggest we saw a wonderhorse performance the other day. The only issue for me is will he back it up. If he does I think it will take an incredible feat to deny him in March. Something which Timeform seems to agree with.

Yeh his next race is very interesting for sure.

End of the day Hes a Juvenile so therefore should be in the Triumph, and he will probably end up there anyway, but with the weight allowance the Supreme is always an option, and IF an owner has 2 juveniles with fair chances, plus the Supreme don't look strong in his eyes, then he may be tempted.

Just think when thinking of backing relatively short priced ones, its best to look at all possibilities.

Can't wait to see him run again, if he can reproduce that level of performance I'll be really excited.

Also Sint, best 4yo's run Triumph. So the vast majority of the quality runners at Aintree race have run at Cheltenham. I do not believe running in the triumph is any advantage to a horse in winning at Aintree tbh. I'd imagine if you've a class horse and you skip Cheltenham to go for aintree you'd be at an advantage.

That's the argument. He's either a special one out of the top drawer or some of us are completely delusional.
By:
CVByrne
When: 24 Dec 14 14:50
Well there is the argument he's show us everything. He's as good as he has shown and there is little or no more improvement. Which means he's a very good horse but that's where it stops.
By:
Eeternaloptimist

I take a slightly different view as does Timeform. If he reproduces that level of form in a Triumph there aren't many previous winners who would have served it up to him.
By:

Of course there is a chance that having come from France his form could tail off from here.

Is there any worry that a lot of hendos top stars aren't seeing a racecourse lately? He's had shocking luck with injuries and even fatalities so you can forgive him if he's being a bit more protective lately but seems to have it in his head at the moment that he doesn't want to risk one of his good ones getting beat.

Thanks for the link CheltenhamRoar - first time I've seen that.

He loves racing, doesn't he? Did he look like he'd be happier going right-handed? Maybe it was just
while he was getting the hang of it all.

peace and co worthy fav..fair way to go yet though. decent race at chepstow tommorrow nicholls likes old guard and he has already beaten karazek on debut, had a couple of quid on him for the triumph, nicholls usually has a couple of good juveniles for this race.well done if you were on peace and co early cant be backing him at those odds now though.

Sint given how he can go on soft ground and Hargam would prefer better. I'd expect Peace & Co at Cheltenham Trials day and Hargam in the Adonis.

Likewise Howdi. Lanzarote wasn't just a place in the Canaries. So lets put our 80 years of racing experience together and ask the vital question. Which other horses put up that kind of performance resulting in that kind of price and then fell apart after December?
By:
Tucho
When: 26 Dec 14 23:44
I might not be seeing straight, but Paddy Power didn't shorten P&C in their win any race at the festival special market. He's still available at 4/1 to win any race, yet he's now best price 3/1 to win the Triumph after Kalkir's defeat today.

Shouldn't the 'win any race' odds be lower than his shortest price for a specific race? You can get an extra point on the price and insurance in case he runs in Supreme Novices.
