I hadn't heard anything about Cue Card since the King George. I asked on here somewhere but didn't get an answer.

So thanks very much for that, Quvega.

Sorry Duffy......a Grade 1 novice chase.
Still aint taking Aintree form as a punting guide for the festival.
Maybe had he ran in the RSA instead of a handicap we may have more idea, against horses primed for the day.RSA a hard race and have serious doubts about horses retaining their form,as ive said earlier.

Holywell aint ran well this season, aint been seen for some time.....poor price imo.

Still, hes a young horse entitled to improve so possible he could figure but he really should be bigger odds right now.

bluebird - I live in hope Smad Place is a Gold Cup player. Still think he has the right profile just a less than ideal first run this season in Hennessy over 3m2f in Soft going putting people off and making the price attractive. Alan King admitted after it was a mistake to run him in Hennessy as first outing of the season without a prior run. Reckon he will run in Argento and do well and will shorten considerably. Money talking for the record.

I agree - would only add that Lord Windermere's Hennessy effort was considerably worse last season before he went on to win the Gold Cup.

Think King is being a bit hard on himself too, if he'd had a successful prep run he might well have gone up in the weights and had a harder race in the Hennessy - although that di n't stop the winner!

After the decs today I had a good luck and think the 40/1 First Lieutenant is a great EW price NRNB.  Just look at his Cheltenham Festival, Aintree Festival & Punchestown Festival form.  It's very good. You could argue he doesn't win enough but he's always there or there abouts.  This season looks like he's going off but he hates Heavy and I can see him giving a real good account.  10year old stat will be thrown at me so I looked at the last 10 runnings and only 4 10yr olds  have set off at less than 10/1 (maybe cos they were 10). Kauto Star fell, Imperial Commander Pulled up Lame. Beef Or Salmon hated Cheltenham and Denman was 2nd to Imperial Commander so nothing lost in defeat.  On His Own was 2nd last year and arguably was unlucky too.  I'm on Boston Bob so was happy looking that stat up.  That's the 7th horse in my Gold Cup list.  Also on Sam Winner, Smad Place, HDO, Carligford Lough & Fingal Bay.  Excited

Not a surprise, but no Sir Des Champs either.  I do hope we see him on a racecourse again.

Cue Card is another one where they look to have given up on him over staying trips.

I too backed Smad Place, but before his Hennesey run at 20's and then he quickly went to 33's!  I have to admit at being dissapointed by the run though.  Despite King now saying it was a mistake to run him, he was supposedly trained for the day, and it was his aim ever since the RSA, so I don't buy that one too much.

Smad does have a good festival record though.  I thought he'd have won the RSA with a better prep last year.  However, it could just be that Many Clouds has improved more from last year to this? 4lbs difference going into the race wasn't a massive amount.

Smad does have 21 pounds to make up to Conti, so his backers will need to think there is a huge amount of improvement, plus Conti runs a good few pounds below his King George form.

I can see the attraction of First Lieutenent Shocks.  I think a lot of the Gold Cup field can beat each other on any given day, and I think you could run this years field against each other five times, and probably get a different finishing top three each time.

I've nailed my colours to Conti (although I wouldn't be taking 11/4), but there are some at good each way prices - Carlingford Lough and First Lieutenant are the two I'd probably pick out at the prices.

I had a little speculative 40/1 NRNB on Taquin de Seuill a while ago, and have gone off that now, so hope he is a NR to get my money back.  Even without the poor form of Jonjo, the JLT from last year isn't worth a carrot.  The whole field have pretty much been found out this year, and have about 4 wins between all of them

,jonjo said today in the racingpost "there running al right they are just not winning " jonjo said of his gold cup contender holywell, he might run at the end of the month in the cleeve hurdle ,his jumping has gone to pot but it was like that last season when we went to all the small tracks to try to get him going ,we cant do that now with his rating ,
other gold cup possibles are another of last seasons festival winners ,tarquin du seuil ,who pulled up in the betfair chase at haydock in November ,and irish grand national hero shuthefrontdoor ,who is also among the market  leaders for the Aintree version . tarquin du seuil might also go to Cheltenham at the end of the month added o,neil we will go for the irish hennesey next with shuthefrontdoor ,I entered him for the gold cup this morning ,he is a real long distance horse and we will keep our options open ,..................

From Paul Nicholls column - "The star of the season so far has obviously been Betfair Chase and King George winner Silviniaco Conti and he will now, almost certainly, go straight to the Gold Cup, where he will hopefully banish memories of his head-scratching run in the race last season.

He was superb at Kempton, the cheekpieces have really made a difference, and he is now just beginning to get the credit his performances deserve.

Sam Winner confirming himself a live Gold Cup outsider with his Lexus run, and King George third Al Ferof giving us a nice headache as to what Cheltenham race to go for".

I've just had a few quid on Black Thunder for this at 1000 on here.  Obviously at that price you smell a rat, so I tweeted P.Nicholls and asked if he had an injury.  He replied saying he was fine and goes to Cheltenham trials day 24th January.  I assume for Argento. Not saying he'll win it but is 1000 shot.

Good shout shockster. If the Argento is the plan then the Gold Cup is probably the aim for the Festival. He's very unlikely to win, but there's no way he should be 1000. Lord Windermere won it last year after all!

If you take Black Thunders run at Ascot in November, he is exactly the same horse as MANY CLOUDS if you take a line through Merry king. He finished 6L in front of MK giving 11lb, then Many Clouds neat MK 4.5l giving him 13lb.  Black Thunder 999/1 Many Clouds 16/1.  BT was also still going fine in the RSA until he fell, however it was quite a way out.

Also if he runs OK in the Argento then easy to lay off for a profit.  I can dream.

I so don't understand twitter! But i asked him a couple of questions and was going to copy/paste them but i will just type them instead as i can no longer find or see them on my news feed!

Will Vibrato Valtat run again before the festival and is the plan to run in the Arkle? Reply Warwick first

And

Are Chartbreaker and Lac Leman your only realistic Triumph hdl hopes for the festival? Reply was maybe Ibis De Rheu too

But like i said, don't understand twitter at all, although i could see his replies before, now all i see is the tweets i sent himConfused Now how the feck does that workConfused I had only left the page and went back to it

Interesting horse for the Arkle imo. Kind of quirky type that could go well. Not much else appeals either.
