Would give Gigginstown contenders in all four novice chases too.
By:
Yep,it does that.
Be a few phone calls between connections I imagine!! |

Don poli looked like my gold cup horse for next year, surely he is better than running in the 4 miler
By:
Yeh a few are saying that Cuf,but then I have seen people putting up Shutthefrontdoor for the Gold cup and he was in the 4 miler last year.
Would running in the 4 miler affect his chances of winning a Gold Cup?? Plus its not as if the RSA is a top notch race anyway. Well not for me it aint. |
By:
no, but shutthefrontdoor wasnt being touted as a gc horse. you'd want him to have experience at rsa distance if he's a gc horse.
By:
That's a question for another thread, what is the best way to train a novice with the view of winning a gold cup,I suppose if it did win the 4 miler at we would know it would stay,I suppose I agree with ya Buddhist regarding Sun alliance, best horse doesn't always win,it's the toughest, probably applies to the gold cup aswell when you think of horses that didn't win it
By:
Sorry budd
By:
Absolutely gutted if he does go JLT, money down the drain.
By:
no worries Cuf |

I wouldn't worry about Vautour running in the longer race with regards to a pointer one way or another as regards cheltenham plans, my take on it would be that UDS runs in the Irish Arkle because they've probably decided that after 67657886 runs, it's probably time now that he took on something halfways decent so they may have an actual clue as to whether he is up to contesting an Arkle.

i still can't buy mullins is going to run valseur lido and him in the same race and that race being the jlt chase doesn't make sense to me...the plot thickens maybe valseur will go up in trip not sure I don't know how many times I need to say this. Giggenstown decide where their horses run no Willie Mullins. He wanted Sir Des Champs to run in the RSA and was told no, he was running in Jewson as First Lieutenant was for RSA. Similar this season he wants Don Poli in 4 Miler but told no, he's going for RSA etc.. Ruby Walsh doesn't ride for Giggenstown, it is Un Des Sceaux and Vautour where are to be kept apart, not Valseur Lido and Vautour. Also at the beginning of the season Mullins had essentially warned people over Vaurour as he said he may go up in trip. It's obviously annoying to lose antepost bets, but since the 2m4f is a grade 1 race we have to accept it's not so simple placing horses at Cheltenham like it was before it existed. The to win any race is by far the safest option when it comes to horses who might go 2m or 2m4f. Take Douvan next season, where will he go if he wins the Supreme? Best to wait till Mullins gives indications in his Stable Tours. But if anything were to happen to UDS between now and Cheltenham Vautour would be switched to Arkle for sure. |

your missing my point cv byrne and you can repeat yourself as many times as you like in regards different owners
these are his 2 best novices is my point (bar un de sceaux) and we have to go round in circles every year with the hype...he didn't run un de sceaux last year in the champion hurdle ffs...they aren't the same owners? so whats your point apart from walsh my point is i can't have these 2 good horses meeting in the jlt chase owners or not - walsh or not...we will see |

Still 8 weeks to go, Lots can change between now and then.

Comes down to Ruby and what he rides in each race. Mulins had said Vautour might go up in trip at the beginning of the season. Paddy Power who Ruby Walsh works for, also decided to go a huge standout on Vautour for the Arkle. IT's all been there for quite awhile to suggest he would be JLT bound if UDS worked out to be an Arkle horse.
I also believe Mullins has learn't his lesson a bit re Champagne Fever. Making all over 2 miles all his life and then they want him to settle over 3 miles. Best way is to step up in trip to 2m4f this season and then up to 3 miles next season when he'll surely be Gold Cup bound given he's by Robin Des Champs. |

I don't think Vautour will run on Sunday. Mullins has several entries for the race and is a more suitable option for other horses and is quoted this morning saying the Irish Arkle is a possible next race for him.
Vautour will still run in the Irish Arkle in my opinion, which will then influence his Cheltenham target. If he wins the Irish Arkle though, I find it hard to see them running in the JLT. |
By:
Race on Sunday is a tailor made JLT trial for Valseur Lido.
By:
His best novice chaser so far imo. Valseur that is.
By:
It is a nice little handy race for Valseur Lido but I'm sure he's being pencilled for the Dr. PJ Moriarty Chase at Leopardstown on Irish Hennessy Day too.

Mullins knows that Vautour is better than UDS...he knows that.....he also knows that UDS can only run in one race at the festival.....the only question is whether he is prepared to sacrifice Vautour's participation in the Arkle to help out UDS.....thay can call the JLT a grade 1 until the cows come home...it ain't!!!, and neither is the cursed Ryanair for that matter....in the end they know this and won't allow a horse of Vautour's calibre to soil his hooves lining up in that race....at least I hope they don't.

WILLIE MULLINS has said there is "a good possibility" Vautour could bid to restore his reputation in Sunday's Grade 2 Leopardstown Killiney Novice Steeplechase.
RELATED LINKS Leopardstown card Last year's Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner made a huge impression in landing his chase debut at Navan, only to struggle at odds of 1-4 in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown at Christmas. The winner then, Clarcam, is among nine who could take Vautour on in Sunday's 2m3f contest. "I'd definitely be prepared to forgive Vautour his run last time," Mullins said on Tuesday. In addition to Vautour, Willie Mullins has entered two fillies, Adriana Des Mottes and Gitane Du Berlais, as well as maiden winners Val De Ferbet and Valseur Lido. Valseur Lido is a general 6-1 chance for the JLT Novice Chase at Cheltenham, with Vautour 9-2 best. Mullins won the race last year with Djakadam. Also entered are Ted Veale, Real Steel and Rule The World. The chase track at the Foxrock venue is soft. |

I wouldn't be surprised to see VL on Sunday. I think Don Poli will run in the Moriarty en route to the RSA and they definitely won't be taking each other on.

French trainer Guillaume Macaire has backed former inmate Vautour to reach the top over fences. Macaire used to trained last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle hero before he was sent to Willie Mullins, for whom he won six races on the spin. Things did not go to plan at Leopardstown over Christmas, however, as he finished second behind Clarcam on his second start in novice chase company. Vautour is still a major fancy for the Arkle Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival in March, with Macaire convinced there is great deal more to come. He said: "Vautour is a special case for me as I trained the dam and the stallion. "He was very backward at the age of three and he did not see the racecourse until very late. "He was a champion at Cheltenham last year and is now chasing. "He is a big horse with a big frame and I think time will work for him. "He should be an even better horse over fences." Vautour could try to get his season back on track in the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown at the end of the month. Mullins said: "He wasn't moving well on the day at Leopardstown. No real problem showed up afterwards and it was probably a bit of a tight muscle. "I gave him an easy time after the race and hopefully we can get him back to where he was. "The Arkle at Leopardstown is a possible next race for him." |

I think Mullins is thinking, Vautour for this weekend, Giggenstown will run Rule the World possibly. UDS for the Irish Arkle and Valseur Lido for the Dr PJ in Feb.
He said in tomorrows RP "a good possibility" Vautour runs this weekend. |
By:
Why not say we will,or we won't,it's always we may or it's quite possible or we may think,I honestly thinks he likes all this,he should be a Tory mp
By:
He's a hard man to figure out alright. Even last weekend he said Douvan would run in a Listed race at the end of January. 2 days later, he enters him for the coming weekend and shortly later confirms he'll run.
Even in the case of Vautour, there are 2 sets of quotes from the same day: "The Arkle at Leopardstown is a possible next race for him." and he's a "definite possibility" for the race this weekend. Are the journalists making up his quotes or is he actually saying these things? |
By:
this whole scenario is becoming very frustrating for me
By:
And quite expensive,if he runs Sunday dont see him going for Arkle unless UDS messes up in Irish Arkle?
By:
I read a quote on Twitter saying that Ricci wanted to run Vroom Vroom Mag at Cheltenham after her win today and the obvious race for her in my opinion would be the JLT which might give some hope to Vautour Arkle backers. I know Mullins was talking about skipping the Festival though.

By:
Hopefully so you think, can't believe they are going to run it on Sunday on heavy ground, could finish the horses season, didn't look l I'll keep the same horse in it last time !
By:
Like the same horse ffs
By:
instead of keeping horses apart, why not run them both?? whats the problem, run vulture and un de so in the arkle. Vulture is a 2 miler and won the supreme in emphatic style. To run him in anything else seems ludicrous to me. He is a 2 mile chaser now he is running in the arkle.
end of discussion |
By:
Sunday's race on heavy ground could finish his season? Get a grip, will probably be similar ground to what he won the Deloitte on.
By:
i wouldnt touch vautour with a barge pole until we know he's back to himself. i know he made the mistake lto but townend and mullins both say he was never travelling at any point. i would ask why? he had an off day? okay, but he was backed as if he was fine. i'd want to see him dispatch his rivals with zest on sunday before considering him for chelt.
By:
Didn't appear to move well at all before and after his mistake at leopardstown, the horse is better on better ground, luckily only 3 runners so they will crawl round for 2 mile !

Willie Mullins on his Racing Post blog:
Vautour (1.50) This trip, track and ground shouldn't be any problem to him. Paul [Townend] said that he wasn't happy with him at any stage the last day and clearly he wasn't himself and I'm forgiving him that and we're taking this opportunity to bring him back to a good track to see can he put things right. People might read into this that the JLT Novices Chase will be his ultimate target at Cheltenham and today is about seeing what he can do. As usual, before Cheltenham I don't worry too much about the trip we can run over. We don't have as much opportunity in Ireland to go the trip we want to go with our novices and it is more about getting runs and experience into the horse. .... please just run in the Arkle, don't do this to us! |
By:
FWIW
Vautour (Ruby) runs in the 2m 3f novice chase. We are preparedto forgive him for his poor run here over Christmas as he is working well at home since. He seemed to have a little muscle problem and wasn’t moving properly. We are expecting him to show his true ability today |
By:
Good that he is running against Real Steel over 2 and a half. May give us a rough idea of his ability over the trip compared to Valseur Lido.
He beat him by 12 but it could have been more than that. |
By:
^^ PS I know they faced each other last time but I mean with both hopefully having an error free round, and over a longer trip it may be more accurate.
By:
Well I thought Real Steel was a RSA horse....ive had a bit on him for that ,so longer distance should give more idea as you say.

After Josses Hill awkward looking performance and the fact we're less than 2 months away now I've had a win bet on Vautour for the Arkle at 8/1. Not a fan of the trainer with his chasers, esp at the festival and there is the obvious worry of which race he'll go for. But if he is as good as some of his performances have hinted he might be and what connections say then he could be 4/1 after today, IF Willie can get him jumping well.
