Don't think Walsh will want UN De Sceaux in the Champion either. Not sure they'd have collared that horse today. CUB is one thing UDS is another.

CUB is Capt CB.

Yes Shock,i aint sure either.

the race didn't tell us anything we didn't already know the fly is the best in Ireland , an theres nothing between MTOY or TNO over here an the race will be decided by these 3, jezki not good enough , our connor had his chance to beat the fly today had dream run of race an still got beat cant see him reversing the form that leaves us with 2 MTOY or TNO to be the new king simple really

Jezki is a crazy price now at 14s with PP NRNB. His race was run by 3rd last today where he was still pulling as he had done throughout. Whoever decided on those hold up tactics made a big mistake. The horse was a guaranteed stayer, he needs to be going a decent lick to bring his fast hurdling into play (has led throughout before). Instead of utilising his strengths, AP was left wrestling with the horse for most of the race. What energy he had left was used making up the 6 lengths he gave the principals from the start. I hear the trainer wanted him ridden that way and she ought to put her hands up if that is the case to save AP's blushes, at least.
He was unlucky last time when AP got himself into trouble which pride or pig headedness wouldn't let him get out of soon enough. Decent ground a fast pace will be right up Jezki's street come March and he's twice the price he should be. |

Yep,thats a tempting price Steeple.
They must know now how to run him in the CHurdle, they have tried enough things that don't work!! Question for anyone whose interested: Where do you think Un de Sceaux and Annie Power would have finished had they ran in the Irish CHurdle today?? |
By:
My tent is having another run prior to Festival and I expect him to go clear Favourite after this run. Watch for improved hurdling and performance.
By:
Not sure about the former budd but I'd be confident that Annie Power would have won that race today getting the mares allowance.
By:
jezi to place will be the bet of the week for me. probably find something to good but im sure theres still more to come.
By:
On all known form so far,Jezki will do well to place imo.
By:
The time before jezki got boxed in, but just before that mccoy asked him to quicken and he couldn't do it after having the run of the race...that's what allowed OC to box him in...he couldn't pick up again today, I didn't think he pulled to any great degree....he needs to go up in trip because over 2 miles, he gets caught out with the initial kick......having said that, a CH like last years would give him a chance.

Agree about Jezki. Can't understand the logic behind the ride he was given today. If anything though, Captain Cee Bee's proximity is worrying for all of the Irish challengers. I know the race wasn't the ran at fastest pace, but they should still be pulling away from him at the finish quicker than they were.
Our Conor was very impressive in the Triumph last year, but it's a poor Champion Hurdle trial, being run on the less sharp new course. If I remember correctly, there was a lot of rain that morning too and don't trust the official going statement of good to soft. I'll be surprised if he wins at Cheltenham this year. Hurricane Fly has been a fantastic horse of the years, but I'm fairly convinced that he's regressed slightly this season. Cheltenham has never been his best course and there's enough doubts in my mind to pass over him this year at 3/1. Jezki will be far better suited by a strong pace and I wouldn't rule him out just yet. He ran well at the festival last season despite being off the track for too long before the race. He probably rates as good value now at 14/1. All in all, I suspect the two big British challengers are the most likely winners, but I'd be very fearful of Annie Power were she to take up this engagement. |

Can't have jezki in a month of Sundays and people need to stop making excuses for him. If AP and UDS don't run its a 4 runner race. OC has impressed me so far but he needs another yr. it's between HF, TNO and MTOY.
Already explained why I won't be backing TNO so I'll take HF and MTOY against the field |
By:
I would also be slightly concerned by the proximity of Captain Cee Bee for the Irish challengers. MTOY and tNO are still edging it for me though I expect the faster ground will shed new light on the capabilities of a lot of the horses too. Great race. Would be even more fascinating should Un De Sceaux and Annie Power line up (I think Annie Power will go for the World Hurdle though).
By:
The close proximity of Captain Cee Bee is only down to the slow pace on Sunday.
I would have thought all connections from yesterday will be relatively pleased. Hurricane Fly once again showed his class and fight. Our Conor was very strong on the bridal. Faster pace will help. Jezki didn't have the tactical speed to pick them up when ridden like that. Will surely be ridden differently in the CH. But most importantly for all connections it didn't appear that any of the horses had too hard a race with the big one just 6 weeks away. That should set them up perfectly and the race should be a belter. |
By:
Jezki won't be in top 3 in the Champion Hurdle. That's the only certainty in the race
By:
Captain Cee Bee is 13. Surely he shouldn't be within 3 lengths of the winner in a Grade 1 at his age. Advantage MTOY and TNO.

To me, the most interesting part of the race was the final 100 yards. Having got into overdrive, HF was by then steaming away from the rest. Another 100 yards and I think it would have been four or five lengths. When you're ridden to take the lead at the last, you're seldom going to win by miles, especially off a slow pace, but that, to me, was truly impressive. Great run, too, from OC and he's entitled to improve again. However, he won't get the 2 lb allowance he had yesterday and, maybe more relevant, he was a miler on the flat and I wonder if, in the top class, he'll see out the trip, particularly off a probable much stronger pace. For me, the steadily run Irish Champion was his best chance of beating HF. And, as for those trumpeting Jezki's claims, he just isn't good enough. As Ruby said when getting off Annie Power, good horses aren't complicated, and the excuses for Jezki seem to mount with each race.
By:
That's interesting what you say Cyclops about OC possibly not seeing out the trip as I did feel there was the tiniest visual suggestion of him tying up a bit as HF started to pull away from him. On reviewing it didn't seem as noticeable as my initial impression had been, so I could well be wrong.
By:
He gave no indication of stopping in the Triumph demolition job. I thought it was a run full of promise yesterday as he was last off the bridle though the Fly found more. He might find one or two too good but at least he's still improving. Unfortunately I can't say the same about my ante-post bet, Jezki, who is looking distinctly one-paced.
By:
no horse can take a hold like jezki did on heavy ground and beat a horse like hurricane fly. its not an excuse its almost a fact! will be a totally different race in march, a point a lot of people seem to forget. He'll be close in march.
By:
To be honest I thought he settled and jumped better yesterday but lacked a change of gear. He was being scrubbed along at the bend but stayed on at the same pace. I backed him ante-post as I thought he'd improve from last year but I'm not seeing it. I think they should try a 'Hardy Eustace' with him. Otherwise there are a number of quicker horses at the finish and I could easily see him out of the first four.
By:
really? i think you need to see the race again. he certainly didnt settle in my eyes, which contributed to his finishing effort. Of course dissapointing but easily excused. maybe we havent seen his improvement yet as he hasnt had his best conditions.
By:
No he didn't settle.Hes had no help from the saddle in the last 2 runs imo.
Needs to be a lot nearer the pace and steadily have the pace increased from there. Then at least he will have every chance of running as well as hes capable of. As it is he aint been far away at the end, change of tactics-who knows!! |
By:
He's had two runs with differing tactics with the same result in each race, when the initial kick to the line happens, he does not pick up straight away, the time before CCB went alot quicker and jezki had the perfect trip and got boxed in because he didn't pick up when mccoy asked him off of the bend....two races...different tactics...but the same fundamental frailty in each example.

Annie Power seems to be the key horse of the festival. A lot of opinions on which race she will go for and which race she should go for (two very different things).
FWIW, I would be very surprised if she didn't line up for the CH and have had a small punt at 10/1. I cannot understand the logic of AP going for any other race. Mares' Hurdle - Pretty sure that connections don't have the b@lls to go for world hurdle and AP has a shot at a championship race, why go for a card filler of a race? World Hurdle - OK so Big Bucks looks more vulnerable than ever before but will still take some beating if he needed that run. AP has never gone 3 miles and there is absolutely no guarantee she will stay. Asides from AP, who would be a lot shorter if a confirmed runner, The New One is favoured ahead of Hurricane Fly and MTOY for me. Think it will be run at pace and will favour the stayers. IMHO, of course |
By:
EDIT: Mares' Hurdle - Pretty sure that connections of Quevega don't have the b@lls to go for world hurdle and AP has a shot at a championship race, why go for a card filler of a race?

One thing different about going into Cheltenham this year for Jezki will be the fact he's had a recent/prep. Last season he had not ran since Christams. He does not look as quick as the other so will be reliant on a strong pace but I wouldn't underestimate his stamina for the race. A big asset. His form figs this season are 1124 so he's hardly out of form!

Jezki won't be in top 3 in the Champion Hurdle. That's the only certainty in the race Knowing you Ballydoyle this probably ensures his place. |

If you were told at the start of this season that Ricci was going to hold off sending AP over fences this season in order to have a crack at the CH and that she will be sent over to England on 3 separate occasions...but on none of those occasions would she run in either of the ...Fighting fifth...or The Christmas Hurdle...or the Bula......you'd think it was a wind up.
By:
I think Jezki is guaranteed to be staying on up the hill, to the same end that we've seen he can't go with the initial kick we've also seen that he does then stay on....you've just got to decide whether too much damage will have already been done, I think it will have myself, but I'd stick him in a placepot.

It's quite simple with Jezki for me tbh. He is not quick but is good enough. Prior to yesterday he was 2 1/2 lengths behind HF without a clear passage, yesterday he was 3/4 length further behind when they changed tactics. These are the RP in-running comments.. Settled in rear of quartet, took keen hold, not fluent 5th,
Off a strong pace settled in 3rd or 4th who knows what might happen around Cheltenham. He is closely matched with MTOY on Supreme form. |

The four-times Grade One winner was second behind Hurricane Fly in the Ryanair Hurdle at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival and having encountered some trouble in running, connections were optimistic of at least getting closer to Willie Mullins' charge at the Foxrock track on Sunday.
Profiles Mrs J Harrington Jezki (IRE) However, the six-year-old pulled for his head for much of the two-mile journey in the hands of Tony McCoy and his exertions clearly took their toll as he was even unable to get by his pacemaker Captain Cee Bee. Jezki was still only beaten little over three lengths and Harrington is happy to let her charge take on Hurricane Fly and Sunday's runner-up Our Conor again in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. Harrington said: "He's come out of the race absolutely fine. There's not a bother on him. We decided to drop him in, that was the plan and he just ran too free and too keen. "I was very happy with the way he jumped, I thought he jumped very well, but you can't run as keen as that in a race like that. He still wasn't beaten far and all being well he'll be there at Cheltenham in March." |

Jezki just not quite top drawer in my opinion, but if they can leg Barry G up he will certainly have an e/w squeak.

My Tent Or Yours will bypass this weekend's Betfred "Double Delight" Contenders Hurdle at Sandown and instead head for the Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton on February 15.
Narrowly beaten in last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle by Champagne Fever before bolting up at Aintree, the JP McManus-owned seven-year-old has confirmed himself a genuine Champion Hurdle hope with triumphs in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle and Christmas Hurdle at Kempton so far this term. Trainer Nicky Henderson is keen to get one more run into his charge before his trip to Prestbury Park in March, but the owner's racing manager, Frank Berry, has revealed this weekend's trial has already been ruled out. Berry said: "I've spoken to Nicky this afternoon and the plan is for My Tent Or Yours to go to Wincanton. He definitely won't go to Sandown." There had been reports on Monday morning Henderson was concerned about the health of some of his string, suggesting the champion trainer had isolated My Tent Or Yours and some of his other stable stars to reduce the chance of them picking up any ailments. "Nicky tells me the horse is in very good form and he couldn't be happier with him. I didn't go any further than that. That's all I wanted to know," said Berry. all not well then, explains a few things... |
