Looks as tho Un De Sceaux is Pricewise for the Champion Hurdle.
By:
It's a 3 horse race for me and I'm really not sure which way I'll go.
Interesting that Mullins has said he's training The Fly differently now as he was switching off too much in his races. May have been an explanation for 2012, that and fact he'd only had one race before and he gets better with racing |
By:
tory the new one had already ran about 2 mile 2 before coming up the hill last march whereas mtoy had only ran 1 mile 5 !
By:
The Supreme was ran at a good pace throughout, whereas the Neptune was a sprint from three out.
By:
Agreed but they'd gone a fairly sedate pace, whereas the supreme was quite quickly run.
I'm not saying that TNO was more impressive, more takin umbridge with those saying MTOY didn't get up the hill |
By:
Meant wasn't more impressive
By:
HF hurdles fast and clean and is away very quickly. The other challengers, apart from MTOY, have still to prove that under pressure they can still do likewise. TNO has made mistakes at the last in his last two races whereas neither Jezki nor OC were fluent at the last in Leopardstown. I have said before HF wins the CH if he does not beat himself.
By:
Don't see why people were saying it was good to see MTOY battle when he won at Kempton. I personally thought he battled gamely in the Supreme and just met a fantastically talented tough and more experienced horse in Champ Fever who has more stamina. It's not like My Tent folded tamely or anything, he just couldn't get by. It was the first time he was in a battle after all.

As I stated earlier I think we've got a new Hurricane Fly. From Champ Hurdle onwards he's settled and switched off so much now Ruby can stop fighting him to settle and can now focus on exactly what to do and when. He knows Fly will respond when he wakes him up and he still has the tactical speed. He used it to make up 5l in no time in the Champion Hurdle and he used to to put the race to bed last day at Leopardstown. I think Ruby will wake him up coming to the second last and loom up on the horses in front and see who wants to battle more. Especially as we all know Sam will **** a brick coming to the last if Ruby looms up beside. It could just come down to experience of both horse and Jock.
Really is going to be a brilliant race. |
By:
yeah same here cv by the way what race do you think champagne fever will run in arkle or Jewson ? thanks
By:
NTD has said there won't be a pacemaker for TNO which makes sense - would be far more beneficial to likes of MTOY than his horse, which has that one turbo boost acceleration in him.
By:
Very true CV...Sam would have brown trousers if the Fly loomed up with Ruby.
Beginning to think I might just have to pile in to the Fly as cover for the other two already backed. Only been beaten once after all under Mullins and the thing just knows how to win man. However 3/1 now and one wonders whether they will be out to get him as they certainly did last year withi it being 3/1 the day before. As a backer of TNO and Tent only the Fly scares me.Our Conor and Jezki ain't for me at all. Former won the worst Triumph I've ever seen and the latter is an Aintree Hurdle nag |
By:
Mccoy had already started sledging Sam 20 secs after they passed the winning line at Kempton.
.....hand over his mouth so the camera couldn't catch it like![]() |
By:
If good ground i think the Fly could be in trouble but if its soft we could be seeing a three time champ.
By:
tory
TNO was faster yet he,d run half a mile + extra ![]() |
By:
In a slowly run race.
By:
Bally, you really want the winner mate!!
Backed Tent and TNO and now backing the Fly!!! Still, if you make a profit I guess you will be happy. Watch out for Un de Sceaux if he runs though!! |
By:
That's the idea budd, to make profit
do not blame him at all (bally) 7/2 now the fly with laddies only 4 on here so it kinda answers why there is 4 figs wanting to lay him (arbing obviously), and at least one firm wanting to get him in the book even now before the irish champ hdl, which is kinda worrying if your a backer. |
By:
Not backed the Fly yet but he's only danger to my two IMO and the one to beat.At 7/1 the pair I've got room for manoeuvre.
By:
I don't think this is a race I'd want to be too deep in at this stage as I think there are a number of potential winners. The only one I don't fancy at all is Jezki but can see any of the other big four winning, and that's without considering Annie Power, who would have a chance if lining up. Un De Sceaux might be very good too, and he could also run.
Worth waiting now until much nearer the time I'd say. |
By:
Absolutely STS,we all want to make a profit.
All sorts of different ways of doing it,and backing the first 3 in the betting at Cheltenham aint always the way, especially if you want that profit to be a good one. Each to their own though. |
By:
so another jezki knocker!!
still cant see why so many people dont seem to rate him as a creditable challanger. ran a blinder in the supereme last year and i thought he enhanced his chances at christmas. obvious that getting hampered didnt help but i think there are still other reasons to believe he could reverse form with the fly. people seem to forget how good the fly is in ireland compared to cheltenham. cheltenham is almost certain to suit jezki, especially if the ground is good and they go a good pace. has anyone taken into account his trainers form over the last few weeks to? maybe we didnt see the best of him in the ryanair hurdle, just a thought. |
By:
Agree re Hurricane Fly not being as good at Cheltenham and I slightly prefer the others at the head of the market on that basis. Not really knocking Jezki (he's a cracking horse) but his CV is starting to tell the story that he's going to struggle to win one of these big ones. He's lost each and every time he's been in a really hot race, on different tracks and different going, so I can't quite see why he should win the best he's ever contested. I do think there is a concern that he lacks that extra gear when it's needed (I think that's why he didn't get more closely involved in the Supreme and the Ryanair last time).
By:
why is a worry if you are a HF backer that Lads want to lay him at 7/2, WH wanted to lay him at 6s before the Irish Christmas Hurdle, didn't mean that they knew anything in particular. Could just be wanting to balance up the books. Not sure how you come to a conclusion its a sign of anything in particular.
By:
The media got in such a frenzy over a number of unproven ex-novices that HF got left out of the equation and some bookies wanted to level up their books such as WH but they are only 3s now. Whether HF wins or not it was ridiculous that he was being quoted as 4th favourite behind a number of horses who still had a lot to prove.
By:
Ridiculous indeed.
Right price now I think. |

tdean
ah just thought you were dismissing him as a complete no hoper! he should definately be considered tho. "his CV is starting to tell the story that he's going to struggle to win one of these big ones" i disagree, how many "hot races" has he ran in? i can only see 2. so i dont think you can be judging him yet. ive explained before why i think he ran a really good race in the supreme, there were a few things against him that day and i dont think he can be judged to much on it. maybe i am seeing things that arent there but i trust my judgement that he and mtoy are of similar ability. on the ryanair its hard to judge how much the interference cost him. its certain that he would have been closer to the fly. i agree with the tactical speed angle to an extent, but will that be much of a problem at cheltenham? probably not. i still think, like the rest of the younger horses, that he is still improving. the one thing that he needs to really improve is his hurdling. |
By:
It needs to be 7/2 each of three imo and i think it will revert to it once the actual entries are known. I do think there will be a clear fav once March starts looming up on the calender though and it will probably be HF if he wins the Irish champ hdl and beats the same 2 again (OC & jex) in similar fashion. Then i can see HF moving closer to 9/4, TNO staying unchanged, MTOY finally being pushed half a pt out to 9/2 with most firms and OC and Jez taking a walk depending on how and where they finish.
That race is key to me. |
By:
buickisgod, the more Jezki knockers there are, the longer he remains at an artificially high price so no problem. I think the Irish form is superior to the English form so I think Jezki being nearly three times the price of The New One is an insult to the horse and his trainer. He needs to brush up on his hurdling and settle better in order to win, that's true, but the suggestion that he lacks the necessary class is outrageous in my opinion given his grade 1 record which is better than any prospective horse in the race other than the Fly. As for lacking tactical speed in the Ryanair, McCoy didn't give him a chance to show it. He jumped the second last better than Our Conor so McCoy had time to ease him off the rail to go past Cee Bee but he chose to hug the inner until it was too late. You can see from his body language that he didn't appreciate the danger of being trapped until Our Conor was at his girths. I maintain it was the jockey who failed to show tactical speed. Mullins and Walsh (who stopped McCoy barging out Our Conor) were much quicker to react to the situation on the day. I trust and hope McCoy sticks to MTOY as I feel Jezki will run better under Geraghty. Reading these forums you would think horses had to win all their preps in order to win the championship. That's rubbish. I'll have egg on my face and empty pockets if Jezki gets beat at Cheltenham, and I'll come back and hold my hands up if that's the case, but there will be some party if he wins.
By:
totally agreed autocue, its quite ridiculous that hes twice the price of mtoy. mccoy gave him a bit of a shocker didnt he!. i honestly dont know what they were thinking with captain cee bee, having him run like he did invonvienced jezki. i still think he needs a fast pace to see the best of him tho dont you? i dont see him as having no tactical speed but there are horses who probably have a bit more. i dont think that will have much of an impact on the c hurdle tho. i actually think mccoy will go for jezki.

By:
I'd be shocked if Tony McCoy picked a 100% My Tent or Yours over Jezki.
By:
SYT - you'd be shocked if McCoy DID pick MTOY?
By:
Be very surprised if the Champ jumps off My Tent or Yours to ride Jezki who, lest we forget, was 2 lengths behind him in the Supreme. Jezki will get beat again in Ireland and that will be that as terms of riding arrangements go.
By:
Can see the Champ powering Jezki to victory at Aintree though. 2m 4f perfect.
By:
Meant to say I'd be shocked if he picked Jezki over a 100% MTOY

This is what I posted in September, at the top of this thread. At 6/1 HF, 40/1 UDS and 30/1 AP at that time, I'm delighted by how the season has progressed and have seen no reason to change my mind. Having UDS and AP as deputies gives me insurance if HF fails to deliver in the Irish Champion or has a problem before the Champion. I have no doubt you'd see AP and probably UDS in the Champion if that were the case. The New One and MTOY still have plenty to prove, the former having not yet beaten over hurdles a horse in the top 7 of the Champion Hurdle betting, while the hill does loom rather large for supporters of MTOY. Looking good at present for me and any poor souls who read this posting.
Look no further than Mullins. 7 points on Hurricane Fly, 1.5 each on Un De Sceaux and Annie Power. If the champion should come up short this season, Mullins has two horses of huge potential who could take his place. Personally, I expect to see Hurricane repel them all again. Lightly raced for his age, and swept by them in this year's Champion, despite a strangely run race. Our Conor may be anything, but is a shocking price given that he's yet to meet a class horse. My Tent or Yours may be the next Harchibald in waiting. The New One did keep progressing but look at how little he had to spare when beating Thousand Stars at Aintree (and losing to Zarkander) and you will realise how much he needs to improve when stepping back to a trip that Nigel never contemplated running him over in his novice season. Not sure he's the trainer to keep improving him, after a very busy first season. Jezki's a bit of a dark one, but you have to forgive his eclipse at Cheltenham, while Grandouet is surely too soft and has had too many chances. His jumping always falls to pot when under pressure. Trust Mullins to deliver. |
By:
I do hope so. As for the Supreme, I'm not a fan of horses going there off a break as Jezki did. Thankfully he's getting a prep race this time. It looks like MTOY will be going there fresh this year and I take Jezki to overturn the form with him. Yes, buckisgood, an end to end gallop (hopefully in the absence of some idiot pacemaker going off miles ahead) and decent ground would suit fine.
By:
My Tent Or Yours will have a prep race before the big one no doubt about that.
I think the comparison with Harchibald is ridiculous. People looking for reasons to rule out MTOY and the best they can come up with is the old cliche "won't get up the hill". |
By:
MTOY is getting a prep!! TNO is going there fresh

I'm not at all desperate to bet on this race because I find it incredibly difficult to take a strong position. I took the view that last years supreme front 3 were outstanding novices and I've seen nothing to counter that view. The water has been muddied by The New One. I always expected The Fly to arrive at Cheltenham again unbeaten but remain of the view that he wins at Cheltenham despite rather than because of the course. Our Conor isn't out of it but I'd be surprised if a five year old can beat all these class older horses. Then you have Annie Power which has been very impressive over two and a half and who could make them all go on soft in the champion.
I don't see much value there now but I'd agree that for me Jezki represents it if I had to bet right now. He missed out the second last and last in the supreme and had an inferior jock compared to the best. Stick Geraghty on and likely more improvement from five to six than six to seven for The Tent and I'd be with Jezki. But he has gone there twice now and not won. ![]() |
