Can anybody honestly, hand on heart, say that after watching both races against zarkandar their initial gut feeling was to say 'there's a CH horse'?
If so, you're very different to me as after both races all I could see was she got better the further they went. Both screamed stayer to me |

By:
Spot on
By:
I'd say she improved from Ascot to Cheltenham. At all points in the race at Cheltenham I thought she was cantering all over Zarkandar. I think she would have aquitted herself very well in the Champion but now they have committed to the world hurdle she does add sparkle to that event which probably needed it.

By:
she looked good over 2 an half but so did Oscar whisky
By:
Oscar stayed 3 mile he just couldn't stay 3 mile ran at championship pace
By:
Guys... Please don't forget that Our Conor's last 2 runs are on the return from an injury. Dessie will have him prepared for THE day. He also insisted that he improved a stone at Chetenham last year. The faster pace will also suit him better. All trial races this season have been run at slow paces and turned into a sprint at he finish.... This won't be the case in the Champion Hurdle. OUR CONOR will blow them away.

By:
ballydoyle messing with peoples money is not boring i backed a power as a cover bet to our cnor and mtoy all mr mullins had to tell people was if hf stays sound they wont run instead he left people in the dark tome that amounts to working with the bookmakers
By:
Been hovering at double figures almost all season for this whilst completely solid for the world...hasn't been running in the 2n hurdle races...they are all out with the Fly..what more do you need to tell you she wasn't gonna go champ hurdle? Not good enough to win that anyway.theres another
By:
Our Conor will blow them away and been trained for one race only? So would the rest not be getting trained to peak for this race as well? Be interesting to know when last time a horse won the champion hurdle without winning that season...as we already know the shyte record of 5yos and triumph hurdle winners...oh and we also know the fly has faced our Conor twice and erm beat him twice
By:
Bally,to be honest mate, its you that's getting boring. Dismissing every horse you aint backed.
Imo AP would have won the CH with her allowance, and would p!ss over Quevega. Still its opinion and no more than that, and now it will never be known anyway. |
By:
Budd you've been pleading for UDS n AP to run in this for long enough...saying race has been devalued...I mean WALOFS.
Keep asking this and no one can tell me who have Annie Power n UDS beat in a 2m race? Doyly Carte? Foildung? |
By:
I'm not dismissing any horse...so it's ok for another poster to say our Conor will blow em away but I ain't allowed to point out the reasons why I don't think he will? Get a grip man
By:
Also,she has run in 7 hurdle races,4 over 2m inc her latest run,and 3 over 2 and a half.
That tells me that she has not been campaigned for the WHurdle. No doubt she would have run in the CH if HF weren't about, and that's what people have been saying. Its not so much about where they THINK she will run, but WHERE she should run. Talking about this is not boring at all,its all part of it,and really if you do find it boring, theres a simple solution!! |
By:
She's been **** 7/2 for the world for long enough and 18/1 for the champ for yonks...that....gives....you....a....clue
By:
It is devalued IMO. You don't think he adds value to the race???
An exciting front runner who none of us know how good he is?? And you tell me to get a grip!!! |
By:
Devalued my arse. The World Hurdle is not a diddy race.its a Grade One championship race and if you aren't looking forward to
Annie Power v Big Bucks New One v Fly v Tent v Our Conor Take up bowls |
By:
Not much point in mentioning horses beaten so easily Bally, they are not form pointers.
UDS wins a distance every time!! Hes totally unexposed. I aint got a clue how good he is,nor have you,and we should have known by now. Would you agree?? |
By:
I always look forward to the festival, its no different this year.
But a CH with an exciting front runner and a darn good mare, now that has had me more excited than usual. But there yer go. Anyway you think it aint devalued,i disagree. Fair enough. |
By:
I would say we don't know how good he is mate yeah but again he's pumpin things that would get mullered by the fly and the new one...Next year something to look forward to for sure but this champ hurdle is mouthwatering for me.
1st The New One 2nd Hurricane a Fly 3rd My Tent or Yours ![]() |

By:
No doubt you will say the Arkle has been devalued too Budde because Felix is not running in it?
UDS has beaten nothing of note and one horse he thumped who had a high rating was a 3 mile chaser. Sometimes you just have to trust the trainer. They wouldn't really leave a Champion Hurdle horse at home would they?! |
By:
one thing that has puzzled me is " un de scuaxe ,we don't know how good he is ".......... really they have no idea ?....does he work on his own ? have they not been tempted to work him with anything half decent at home ?
By:
Ofcourse they have an idea Foyles. If they didn't then you'd be worried!
By:
my take on it is they know and have handled the situation in the horse and owners best interests at heart !
By:
Our Connor cant't see this winning or even placing at all! Running rubbish this year and missing B.Copper.
By:
I think Ladbrokes have been quite cute here. Money back all runners if Hurricane Fly is in the first 2. Tells me they don't fancy it at all and I tend to agree with them. I can easily see TNO, MTOY and Our Connor finishing in front of him. Ladbrokes aint daft!!!!
By:
Was thinkin that myself...
By:
TNO & MTOY to figth out the finish again, with TNO winning by more than 2 lengths. I'll be betting that outcome on the day.
By:
I've said this all along. Can't have The Fly at all. Congrats to him if he wins and I'll be cheering louder than anyone but a 10-year od against this field? Something (surely more than 1?) has to improve past him.
Waiting until the green dollar is down then laying him and place laying him. |
By:
I'd started coming round to Our Conor but I can't get over the impression that when he went eyeball to eyeball with the Fly last time it was the latter who showed the bigger will to win despite looking like he'd come off second best as they jumped the last. If Our Conor were to bolt away coming down the hill like last year this wouldn't be an issue but I can't see him being able to dominate this field. So, how tough is Our Conor in a battle?
By:
he's (Un De Sceaux) pumpin things that would get mullered by the fly.....
.... what like Midnight Game who ? Hurricane has beaten Captain Cee Bee 9 1/2 lengths and 2 3/4 lengths so far this season. Captain CB has finished much closer to Fly this season than in 3 attempts last year Captain Cee Bee had stuffed Midnight Game and been beaten 17 3/4 lengths and 10 lengths by superstars called Dedigout and Pink Coat in his other starts this season. What price UDS in a match against Captain Cee Bee? Probably 1/8 and 7/1... |
By:
Foyles/Sint,
Oh they know how good he is alright!! We don't cos they aint allowed us to find out. You tell me a horse that's been campaigned as he has in his 2nd season hurdling. |
Sint, I think any top race is devalued if a horse that imo has form that gives him a big chance, ends up running in a lesser race. Yes, UDS has beaten nothing of note apart from beating a horse a distance hard held, that that HF only beat 7l ridden out!! His campaigning has been a disgrace imo. By now everyone should know his capabilities,he aint a baby!! His trainer has simply not entered him in one race where we would be allowed to find out. Ask yourself why,and be honest. And as for trusting Mullins, you really are havin a larf!! |
By:
I'm 100% in agreement Budd. Common sense really.
By:
Yes Shock it is common sense.
Its really that simple for me. |
By:
Fair points about UDS actually...does look to have a massive engine. Ok, Annie going for World but UDS should be running in something at least instead of standing in his box.
By:
I am being honest Budde. I think if you handn't backed him you wanted be quite so vociferous about it. UDS would go off like the clappers, got tired on the run in, and set it up for TNO. I think WPM feels leaving UDS out of the race will play to the strengths of HF more and enhance his chance of winning. Not because he feels UDS would beat HF himself. That would be dereliction of duty on the trainers part if he did that. UDS would simply set it up for HF's rivals.

* you wouldn't

Ruby's comments echo what many of us have been saying here - that he hasn't ridden HF to best effect so far at Cheltenham.
"He was too free the first year. I sat too far back on him the second year - he wasn't 100 per cent - and last year I shouldn't have followed the ones in front," Walsh said. "They were going too fast and I followed them. I shouldn't have. "Racing is about pace, about judgement. I knew they were going too fast. I should have backed my own judgement and stayed where I was but instead I was thinking of all the criticism I got the year before and I kept following them. That was the mistake I made and the horse got me out of it. It won't happen again. "If I hadn't followed the pace last year I'd have arrived turning in hard on the bridle and he'd have blown everybody away. But he still managed to win. "I don't think I've done things right on him at Cheltenham. The day I'll get it right, he'll show England what he's shown Ireland." Makes perfect sense to me; about time this horse is appreciated as one of the all time greats. |
By:
Ok Sint, you don't know me so you can think I am being loud cos ive backed him,and yes we are all capable of that from time to time.
But my honest thinking is all about wanting the best possible race, and I really think he would add so much to the race. Course he might get tired on the run in,he also might not get caught, both are possibilities, especially with our lack of knowledge re the horse. But to have a front runner like him in a top CHurdle, just would be so exciting for me. As for the Fly,hes fine however the race is run,and if hes good enough he will win whatever. Personally think hes a better horse than all the more exposed ones, and will win again, and as Cyclops says, perhaps he will finally be appreciated as an all time great. |

"If I hadn't followed the pace last year I'd have arrived turning in hard on the bridle and he'd have blown everybody away. But he still managed to win.
I could understand Ruby's argument if those up front ahead of Fly had faded badly out of contention and finished in rear. But they finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th with the latter, Zarkandar, beaten only 6 3/4 lengths. All those in finished in rear, raced in rear throughout. Easy to say now of course, but it was a poor Champion Hurdle in which Fly had much the easiest trip of the first four home and yet was all out to score. Ruby can make all the excuses he likes, but Hurricane is simply nowhere near as good at Cheltenham as he is in Ireland. If they go a crawl next week and replicate his last two starts, maybe he will win again, but it will be close, as befits a slow race. If they go a decent gallop (highly unlikely), I'd be very confident Hurricane will get beat. The removal of Annie Power and UDS from the race was not in the interests of their owners, only the trainer and jockey.... and of course Hurricane himself, who if he wins, will still have questions to answer unless he faces his stablemates at the Punchestown festival |
