Zarkandar has  lost by 6 lengths in last two champ hurdles and AP beat him easier than TNO did.
STS..Why won't AP stay

Been having a think about this Annie Power saga.
If shes not to run in the Churdle then I just don't see why she was kept hurdling to be honest.
I cannot believe they thought at the start of the season they would spend a season ending up in the Stayers hurdle!! or the Mares!!!!

Surely if she aint going for the big one, then go chasing and get a season behind her rather then wasting it on a hurdling campaign ending up in one of those 2 races. They are now a year behind where they could have been.
They say shes a chaser and I would think they are thinking the top staying chases. So to spend a season hurdling for the stayers or the Mares??
Just don't make sense to me and all very strange imo.

Perhaps Budd WPM was maybe anticipating that HF may well have deteriorated this season leaving the AP as their CH horse. Perhaps Fly has surprised them by running as well as he has this season and showing he can still race with the younger brigade.

Possible I guess, but I cant see that myself,i have not heard one negative comment all season re the Fly.

When: 24 Feb 14 19:25
I meant pre-season. WPM has said he was surprised he came back in looking bigger than usual and that he was looking for signs that the horse had maybe had enough.

Just possible he was anticipating, given his age, that HF would struggle with the promising youngsters like TNO, OC etc.

Not saying it is so, just trying to think of a reason for AP being kept hurdling, if, as you say, it was not to run in the CH when her chasing career seems to be the eventual aim.

Think it more possible shes been used as a reserve in case of injury with Fly. That may still happen of course, but I am surprised Ricci has allowed her to be used this way.
Unless of course I think they hold her in more regard than they actually do!!

I am still not convinced she runs in the World. Obviously much more likely, but it's not a done deal yet, especially if it comes up relatively testing.

When: 24 Feb 14 20:59
well if she does run in the WH,i am pretty sure his owner would not have wanted that at start of the season.

There aint many,if any, that take in the stayers hurdle race on the way to a Gold Cup, which I believe is the eventual goal with her.

Corrected this for you Buddeliea:

Been having a stew/sulk about this Annie Power saga.
If shes not to be campaigned exactly how i think she should be I don't see the point in her being in training to be honest.
I cannot believe anyone would be bothered about winning such a petty race as the Stayers hurdle!! or the Mares!!!!

Laugh
It is possible to have an opinion without using money...jesus!!

There was me thinking I might actually spark a decent conversation...well it started ok!!!!

So you think the stayers and the Mares are the sort of races that connections look at on the way to the Gold Cup??
By:
buddeliea
When: 25 Feb 14 08:00
The point I am making(without any bets I have had Barnesy!!) is that IF they have a horse they think is good enough to aim at the Gold Cup in the future, why target the Mares or the stayers?? Surely would have been better to go novice chasing, Arkle??
They are not top races in the league of the CHurdle or the Gold Cup.

It just don't ring true imo.
Unless of course they don't rate her that high.

I'd have thought Ricci would want to emulate Dawn Run and win the Churdle and the Gold Cup WITH Annie Power.  It's only been done the once and maybe she could do it?  Has to have a great chance in the Churdle and time will tell over fences.  Won't the Riccis and WPM be forever thinking "WHAT IF"?

AP has not run over the distance in a race, know one knows if she will get the trip or not.

Miss chelters altogether, keeping it quiet, mop up all the antepost on here for both, keep her for the 2.5milers at Aintree or PunchConfused

Devil

That has to be a possible, surelyConfused

Though if i am being honest, unlikely, i think that decision was made when the jockey decision was made on big bucks! Am convinced Nichols/Mullins/Walsh etc will have been on that telephone in regards to that before that trip to Barbados!

Just teed up a couple of race re-runs from last years festival and it makes for interesting viewing. From the fourth last hurdle TNO crossed the line a full 4 seconds before the fly did!!! ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

The Neptune was ran at a crawl last year. They were always going to cover the last half mile quickly.

The champion they went very fast mid race and laboured at the finish.

7/4 for the Fly to start favourite is a great bet. He'll be smashed in by the Irish (which is exactly when I'll lay the socks off him)

The Neptune is run on the New course the CH on the old course which would explain the difference in time from the 4th last tbf.......don't think they went that quick in the CH

either....Champagne fevers time in the Supreme novices the same day was four seconds quicker!

When: 02 Mar 14 15:24
Yes, they're both on the old course. The Supreme was ran faster than the Champion last year, but that was because they didnt go silly midrace and finished far better.

When: 02 Mar 14 15:41
You're right actually lads...forgot the neptune's on the second day for some reason......The fly can not travel as badly though the race as he did last year and still win imo.....last years race was really poor.
By:
gutfeeling
When: 02 Mar 14 15:46
The New One was the quickest from the last to the line of all races on the first 2 days, Not sure what bearing that has on anything really but we know he likes the course. Just want a straight race with no excuses. GL all.
By:

When: 02 Mar 14 15:50
Believe me there will be excuse that is a cert
By:

When: 02 Mar 14 17:56
the problem with all the sectionals of the Neptune, Champion and Supreme Hurdles is that if you believe The New One putting up a cracking effort and is better than the protagonists in the other 2 events.... then you have to rate Rule The World ( 4 lengths 2nd to him) as being as good and speedy as anything in the Supreme or Champion Hurdle....

.... which suggests maybe the ground was maybe a lot quicker on the second day than people thought
By:
ACStafford
When: 02 Mar 14 18:33
The ground may have been slightly quicker, but I think it's more to do with the sedate pace that the Neptune was ran at. They were able to finish so well as they didn't start racing until three out.

Official - Hurricane Fly will finish 2 places higher than he would have done had Annie P & UDS taken their chance.

Both of them were never goin to champion hurdle whilst the fly was around...biggest cert of the festival...wish people would stop moaning that Annie power n UDS are not runnin in this...boring now
By:

When: 02 Mar 14 22:04
Annie Power would have won the CH - just as she'll win the World Hurdle. I think it'll be 1) The New One 2) MTOY 3) Hurricane Fly as it is now
