Fair enough, Howdi. But I see no reason why he would not go for the Neptune at all. Stepping up to 2.4 next time, and trainer said on here, he'll hopefully go for one of the staying hurdles at the Festival. It won't be the AB. I suppose a mudbath could conceivably see a re-route to the Supreme but really dont think that's likely. Might have a small saver on Hill's 7/1 any race option but have resisted that option so far.

Huge fan of this horse and I thought it was a brilliant debut over hurdles. Jumped very slick despite the ground and looked a natural. Topped up my 25/1 with some more at 14/1.
The oly thing that was worrying me was that Laddies don't often stick their neck out unless they know something (like with AOB horses), but having just checked they are into 8/1 fav! I only see him in the Neptune and am pleased with my bets on him and the prices I have, as much as any ante post bet I've ever had! |

Same here, Cantcatchme, in at my maximum, only it keeps growing....
Great effort for you and sj to poach 25/1. My average is only around 13's, but mainly because of liquidity and wanting to bet on this site where possible. |

I'm with Howdi on this, the trainer has stated that he'll go for one of the staying hurdles. That doesn't sound to me like he's commiting to the neptune? From what I've seen he may be best suited by the longer race.

johntucker, check my post of 25th. But if not convinced, the 7/1 any race option is close enough to the 10/1 about him for the Neptune to be worth a thought.

As expected he's fan club is growing. My only fear is he ends up in the Albert Bartlett as I've all my money on him for Neptune.
Chasing is his game though, as it was Boston Bobs. So not to get too wreckless with the betting on him this season. |

Why do you say that CVB? I think their is a fascination with chasing, and sometimes horses can be just as good over the smaller obstacles. On the evidence of his debut, he looks a slick hurdler and an absolute natural over them to me.

CCM, it's because he is a 3m chaser in the making. But mainly because he likes soft ground. 2m5f at Cheltenham where he may run into a good hurdling speedster like a Simonsig, peddlers cross, Rock on Ruby etc.. lots of the horses are good enough for Champion Hurdle the following season. So it's why I worry about 3m chaser going up against 2m4f hurdler. If you catch my drift.
Anyway, I got confused and backed Don twice for 2pts, so double the exposure I intended. Ah well |

Yes, remember him well as I won a truckload on him that day, on the nose and in a double with Sizing Europe, and an almost with a treble with Mossley to boot. Once in a lifetime festival. Once in a lifetime.
But, the big difference between Don and FL is. FL thrives on the good quick spring ground. Don will not, he likes to dig his toe in. |

We don't know that yet, CV. Admit it may be so, but, unless you are looking back to his first bumper, before he joined Elliott, there's no evidence either way as to whether he's a mudlark or a true class horse. Your point about Neptune horses having speed is a good one, but Don has shown no lack of speed in either his bumpers or his hurdling start. He may be large but that doesn't preclude him from being speedy.

Winner very impressive for sure.
Horrible fall after the hurdle, but he hadn't jumped well all the way. I would think they may give him the rest of the season off and come back over fences next year - that what I would do anyway. Another horse I've jinxed.  |

The ground was bad today. I think better ground over 3m would be more appropriate.

I agree with Gordon Elliot that the horse was under the weather today. Not saying the winner isn't top class and a better animal, but Don Cossack was struggling to beat the the others from before they got into the straight. Can't blame the ground as he has hosed up on very soft before, and he's won over 2m so no reason why the trip was an issue (unless it was too far).
So given he has just taken a shocking fall and assuming they identify he has a problem which caused him to run so flat (whether physical or viral) and then if we assume the whole Cheltenham dream is over for this year, then as he was always a chaser in the making I'd just draw stumps and start afresh next season. Obviously I hope they find a problem, and that he gets over it and comes out and wins his next race impressively and then still goes for the Neptune as a player, but somehow see that as unlikely. |

He runs one and a half races since April and he needs a rest. He must be very delicate.

There was a strange feeling of dejavu today.
Mt Benbulben came into this same race last year as a fairly warm fav to beat one of Mullins (Boston Bob), he was rated very highly at the time. Once he had been beaten Gordon Elliott felt he had been under the weather, however he's turned out to be short of top class, it remains to be seen whether its the same with this one, but as one who has already invested in him I'm hoping he was below par. If I'm honest though I suspect it'll be a similar story to last year. |

the smile that smug ruby walsh had on after the race would suggest that he believes the winner is something special. I wouldn't believe that even him could have that smile on the strength of somebody else's misfortune.
