Look at the last three winners of the Triumph:
2011 Zarkandar - posted an RPR of 143 on it's hurdling debut
2010 Solsdatino - posted an RPR of 144 on it's UK hurdling debut
2009 Zaynar - posted an RPR of 141 on it's hurdling debut

Q: Which over this season's juveniles have posted a figure of 140+ on their debut?
A: None

Unless Dodging Bullets is pretty special (stable not firing) there is probably only one horse that can keep this stat going....

Think  i agree Shando price is a joke, not sure all the sheep know that his last 2 wins on flat, 19 runners since no winner from race, 26 runners one winner. Hardly screams solid form and yet to jump a twig in public, even if winning Saturday which it has to if lining, will be different ball game hurtling round Cheltenham with 20 runners.
Wont be laying unless he ends up 5/2 which he may if winning Saturday, have backed a few to beat it at decent prices.
Also trainer at present not exactly in blinding form?
Good luck to those with 16s not many i reckon.

Hope you guys who have backed this beast at ridiculous odds, that a he is going back on the flat according to trainer doesnt sound like future Champion Hurdler/World beater?
Just complete overkill on this horse,at least some have got form in book already whether good enough will find out shortly.

Brian Cooper riding minsk saturday

Jockey Bryan Cooper is eagerly looking forward to the hurdling debut of the highly-touted Minsk in the Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

The former John Oxx inmate is at the head of the betting for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham, without having jumped a hurdle in public, due to the progress he showed at the end of the last Flat season.

Reports emanating from out of his new trainer Dessie Hughes' yard suggest he has take to hurdling like a duck to water.

His regular jockey is as excited as anyone about his initial run over hurdles.

Cooper said: "I'm looking forward to it, ever since he won that day at the Curragh, it's been a long enough wait.

"He's schooled well so hopefully he'll put up a good performance. I've done all the schooling on him, he's quite quick and has learned how to pop and fill himself out when he makes a mistake.

"He's going to have to beat them if he's to justify favouritism for the Triumph but if he brings his form from that day at the Curragh I'd imagine he'll give them a fair rattle. I've not ridden many that work like him," he told At The Races.

old comments from Richard Hughes son of Dessie

I'VE not been averse to jumping a flight or two of hurdles in the past and I would certainly be tempted to have some fun this winter on my dad Dessie's new recruit Minsk.

Unfortunately, Dad has a very good rider in Bryan Cooper at home and he will do a far better job than I could.

Minsk ran away with the Irish Cesarewitch on his final start for John Oxx last Sunday. He arrived in Dad's yard not long after and he already loves the horse. I've had a long chat with Johnny Murtagh about him and there are no negatives.

Expect to see him have his first run for us around Christmas with the Triumph Hurdle very much the plan. We could do with a star in the yard and Minsk could be the one.

old comment from Jaohn Oxx flat trainer of minsk

MINSK justified favouritism in the Hacketts Bookmakers Irish Cesarewitch in impressive style at the Curragh yesterday, highlight of a superb treble for trainer John Oxx.

Raised 12lb. for a recent win on the track and ridden by crack apprentice Sam James, the Dalakhani gelding powered clear to slam Cry For The Moon by five and a half lengths, repaying part of the hefty purchase price paid recently by Barry Connell as a dual-purpose investment.

Wearing Connell’s colours for the first time, Minsk stalked the leaders early in the straight before cruising into the lead and stretching clear to triumph in the style of a rapidly improving three-year-old.

Minsk was an eighth Irish Cesarewitch winner for local trainer Oxx, who admitted: "I thought the handicapper might have got hold of him - 12lb. seemed plenty. But it shows that when a three-year-old is improving, you don’t know how far he can go. And I wasn’t sure about him staying the two miles. The fact that there was no more rain in the last two days was a help.

"He’s a nice horse - he travels and picks up. And it’s great for Barry. It’s always good when somebody takes a chance and is rewarded. He won’t run again for me. He’s heading to Dessie Hughes’ in the next few days, heading for his new life, over hurdles."

i have to be honest and say if i wasn't on Minsk at 16 14 and 12/1 there is no way i would be backing him at the current prices. this Saturday is going to see a big shake up in the triumph betting with 2 big trial races and the 1st and 2nd favs running.

agree giggsy  although i may have had a tenner on him at 6s for potential as i dare say i spend enough on possible non triers anyway with regard to sadlers risk and i must say lot of hobbs horses i just dont think they are jumping great but as you say after this weekend things will change one way or another

i know there's been a lot of hype concerning Minsk but i've had a wee look at the field for Saturday and IF he wins this race on his debut then you have to say he must be very good.

BETTING FORECAST FOR WINNING FAIR SATURDAY 1.55
By:
HENRY THE ATEF
When: 24 Feb 12 16:58
Minsk bids to consolidate his place at the head of the betting for the Triumph Hurdle when he makes his eagerly-awaited debut in the Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

The Dessie Hughes-trained gelding is ante-post favourite with most bookmakers for the four-year-old championship at Cheltenham at around 6-1 before he has jumped a hurdle in public.

However, a combination of his Flat form and reports of his excellent schooling at home has earned Minsk such strong support ahead of his first run over timber.

He won his last three starts for trainer John Oxx, culminating in the Irish Cesarewitch where he romped home by five and a half lengths.

Owner Barry Connell sent Minsk to Hughes to be trained for a hurdling campaign, with the Triumph the prime target.

Hughes is looking forward to getting Minsk on the track after giving him a well-earned break following his Flat campaign.

"He won on summer soft ground in the Cesarewitch at the Curragh. This will be a different cup of tea altogether but hopefully he'll handle it. Everything's 100%, said the Curragh handler.

"I don't think I've had all this talk about one horse, certainly before he's run. Maybe possibly Hardy Eustace at one stage.

"I don't mind the pressure too much - we're used to it - and I'm lucky to have him.

"He is very smart and his work is very smart. At home he jumps very well. They go quicker when they're racing, so we'll see.

"It's a decent race, so he'll have to be as good as we think he is to be up there.

"There are similar horses running in England with a similar Flat profile as him.

"He was so impressive in the Irish Cesarewitch that it just took everyone's eye. I didn't want to bring him out any earlier really. This is time enough.

"When they have been in training all year as three-year-olds they need a bit of a break in between that and going jumping if they are going to last to Punchestown."

Ground is soft to heavy tomorrow. Apart from seeing how he jumps this test would be right up his street.

Not sure that 2 miles at full pace on faster ground will suit ?

He may well be a future superstar, but his flat rating is nothing completely out of the ordinary.  The ones below were all very high 90's or in the 100's when they went hurdling, with varied success.

Washing Machine was 111
Fiulin - 96, but reached 106
Cesare - 114, but reached 120
Manyriverstocross - 98
Galileo's Choice - 110
Kasbah Bliss - about 110
Celestial Halo - 110
Ted Spread - 104
Inventor - 98

Admitedly, some of the ones above only went hurdling because they were on the downgrade on the level, and Minsk may be open to more improvement on the level, but they still did acheive high ratings.

Haven't had a bet in the Triumph, so good luck to Minsk backers, but his price is ridiculous imo.  Also, I don't like backing dual purpose horse.  With the exception of Overturn who is really consistent at both, I prefer it once a horse goes hurdling to stay hurdling - not fannying about on good to firm on the level.

If he wins today then lay off for free bet.

If he gets beat then won't run - money back.

If he drifts and still runs at Cheltenham then BOG means lay off on day.

After race at Curragh Sun, 9th Oct, 2011 (1st) I thought the handicapper might have got him. The rise he got after last time seemed plenty,. It just goes to show you that when they are improving you don't know where they will end up. He's won well again. I had a little doubt about the distance as he won so well over a mile-and-a-half but he travelled well and quickened up. Barry has a nice horse. It nice to see it turn out well when someone buys one. He's due off to a jumps trainer now - Dessie Hughes - and i'm ringing him in the morning. He'll head on to a new life in the next few days. John M Oxx
After race at Curragh Sat, 10th Sep, 2011 (1st) Minsk is a nice horse and I gave him a bit of time over the summer as he is a big ‘rangey' devil. We took our time and let him mature and he has been improving steadily. He stays well and should get better as he gets older. He won nicely there and while it is hard to know where to go next, I'll be surprised if he wasn't bought to go jumping. John M Oxx
After race at Curragh Fri, 3rd Jun, 2011 (1st) He's a nice, big backward type and should improve as the year goes on. He stays well, handled the ground and is honest. John M Oxx
