Arkle, starts off against Peddlars Cross at Bangor

As stated elsewhere, staying is useful in the Arkle, but I doubt he'll have the toe and would be surprised if he finishes top of the 2m novice chase pile.

had too much toe for the champion hurdle 2nd fav over 2[:o]

Surely his stamina won him The Supreme?

Looked to me like he stayed better than anything tbh RDS. He was also being niggled down the back!

yeah, staying won him the supreme but he had sufficient speed also imo. if he can win the supreme then i wouldnt imagine toe will be an issue in the arkle!!

still not given credit he deserves. Sure he will be after this season.

He also had 14 or so smacks to get him going in the supreme.. GL with the Arkle imo

The way he won the Supreme reminded me of how Noland did it and he was outspeeded in the Arkle. This one looks like a 2m4f+ horse to me too

i think al ferof is bred to have a little more speed than noland. still tho, red hot arkle and wide open. v hard to win!

Most of Dom Alco's good uns are stayers though Reve and in my limited experience, those who do well in the champion bumper usually want a bit further as they go on. Really I'm just sour cos he beat Spirit Son in the supremeGrin

Laugh im not qualified to work as a bloodstock agent or anythin but i think while many dom alcos stay 3 very well, their ideal trip varies a lot, more than almost any other stallion. i think the older al ferof gets the further he will stay, but id say anywhere between 2 and 2 and a half would be perfect for him atm. id be keen to keep him to 2 miles until its proven definitively hes not quick enough

Hurdles is more of a Stamina test than Fences imo, 2and a half mile  Jewson for me.

hurdles def more of a stamina test. if they go too quick in the arkle though hed be very likely to pick up the pieces. hard to know what to do, maybe if hes in hotly contested novice chases early in the season everyone will be a little wiser as to what he wants and needs!

Big chance in whatever race he runs in at the festival.Tailor made for Cheltenham and will be on my side.

Will need to be a very good jumper if he is to figure in the Arkle imo. The combination of being even slightly ponderous at them and wanting a stamina test will do for his chances.

If he's slick at them, I think he'll have enough speed to run in this. At the end of the day, you've got to trust PN and Ruby.

Stamina won the arkle this year- could happen again.

Champion Hurdle a possibility? or have they said definitely chasing??
By:
revedesivola
When: 20 Oct 11 12:19
yeah chasing is the plan. he doesnt strike me as a champion hurdle type, for all that the neptune is a good race for future champion hurdlers
By:

When: 20 Oct 11 12:27
well he beat the 2nd fav for the CH fair and square, but that dont matter if he going chasing, although should he fail to impress over fences, the current CH price would be tempting for me.
Be watching with interest.

yeah, im not sure spirit son should be 2nd fav at 10/1Mischief i myself finished 2nd in a neptune, and im not sure im champion hurdle materialLaughLaugh

Indeed.Think you are more like Welsh National material,if you could jump!!

Spirit Son was mighty impressive at Aintree and is probably open to a fair bit of improvement, thats why hes the price he is i would think.
By:

yeah but hes probably open to the same improvement as most of those novices!

think a welsh national hock deep in mud would be too sharp for rdsMischief

fair point Reve, but he also did that at Aintree, and that was impressive.
If you look at the potential runners in the race their dont look many more likely to challenge the fav than him.
Al ferof would imo,Oscars Well could challenge and possibly Zarkander.Dont see much else at this stage.

duff, great chance if all fences were bypassed because of low sunLaugh

I think Spirit Son would canter past Al Ferof over hurdles now he knows his game better. Al Ferof was a year older and far more experienced at the time. Aintree showed how he was still progressing.

Personally think they are both real good horses with the potential to reach the top of whatever is chosen for them.
Would not be over confident to say which is the better 2m hurdler, but then that dont matter if they want to go jumping with Al Ferof.

But Al Ferof won the Supreme Novices not the Neptune.....and that does have a bad record for the CH

What makes you think that?Horse has never won over further than 2m 5,he's never really struck me as an out and out stayer tbh,ive yet to see him plod on by beaten horses,if anything he never seems to see out his races over shorter

From an article about the Henry VIII on the RP site.

Henderson said: "'We've got Sprinter Sacre and Eradicate in the race but I'm not certain to run Sprinter Sacre as I'm not sure he's quite ready.

"He is entered at Warwick on Sunday as well but I want to run El Mondo in that."
