Also I find it funny how people are using Sizing Europe as an example of a horse who had proven stamina. My good God, the horse would cantered around for all but the last 100 yards of the Champion but stopped to a walk. Now it is over the much less taxing discipline of fences, they are considering 3mile for it. Can you imagine it running 3 mile over hurdles, it would be pulled up with a mile to go!!

Brownes. You seem sure of your 'opinion'. Stating them as facts which is rather strange. As for it being 'blindingly obvious', thats crazy.
Look at previous winners of the Arkle, not many 2 mile hurdlers are there? I would say its blindingly obvious you need a horse that has proven stamina beyond 2m, to win an Arkle myself. |
By:
My point CCM is that although it may help if you stay further it is not necessarilly a pre-requisite. As I said Well Chief didn't stay further than 2 miles yet he was a blindingly good 2 mile chaser.
By:
Brownes. SE will never stay 3m over fences, hence the reaosn they have given up that plan.
brigust. At the end of the day, its about opinions, and I respect those who think he can win an Arkle. I can see why they think it. But me and plenty others think he cant. You should respect ours too. Yes its not a great Arkle, but Well Chief aside (and as I said to you on the other thread, how do you know he didnt get further? You dont), nearly every Arkle winner I can remember had stamina for futher. I am actually flabbergasted there are some who think that any 2 mile hurdler would have enugh stamina to win an Arkle, because its easier. |
By:
Can't Catch Me. Answer me this, which do you need the more stamina for, a true run 2 mile flat race or a true run 2 mile hurdle. I'll answer that for you as I'm not convinced you will know.....it is the 2 mile flat race; for the simple reason of the greater speed they go at. The exact same logic applies to hurdles and chases.
Now, for the list of horses that never proved themselves beyond 2 miles but won an Arkle....Klairon Davis, Travado, Or Royal, Moscow Flyer, Well Chief, Contraband, Danish Flight. Too many to list really. That isn't to say that excessive stamina is a negative, just that the race is all about pace and not about stamina. |
By:
Moscow flyer won a melling chase not once.....but twice!

By:
not flabbergasted, more a case of hilarious pocket talking
By:
Liverpool over 2.5 is like Cheltenham over 1.5m. Moscow Flyer won an Arkle because of speed not stamina.

Thanks for the lesson Brownes. You are clearly a very knowledgeable chap. I only wish I had as much experience of the racing game as your good self.
So Moscow didnt have form over further? I could have sworn he p1ssed two Melling Chases over 2m4f. Or Royal won a 2m4f race as a novice before winning the Arkle, Travado won a few races over further. KD and WC were, as I mentioned earlier, never allowed to prove what they could do over futher. |
By:
So you are saying Moscow won the Arkle through sheer grit. Fu** me, what a clueless tit you are.

This forum used to be excellent. Full of healthy respectful debate. Now its full of idiots who get abusive when people disagree with them.
By:
No i agree with that part of your argument, its the first bit that has me stumped! granted cheltenham is a far sterner test of stamina than aintree due to its undulations....but to the extent that you proclaim......i doubt it!
By:
CCM Well Chief ran 25 times and only once over 2 and a half miles where he was beaten pointless. He clearly didn't stay further than 2 miles.
By:
CCM, as stated above, winning over 2.5 at Aintree hardly proves stamina. The only other course where they attempted to run Moscow over significantly further than 2 miles was at Fairyhouse, to absolutely no success.
With regards to abuse, it isn't in response to a different opinion, it is in response to pathetic little emoticons being used.....boils my blood. Finally, with regards to me knowing more than you about racing, I clearly do. |
By:
brigust. He ran once over further and that was Aintree. Do you want me to list the horses who have ran badly there following Chelts? You'll be telling me Pridwell is better than Istabraq next. To suggest that is proof he didnt stay further tells me you're probably just arguing for the sake of it.
Its daft to use Moscow and WC as examples anyway. These were the two of the best 2 milers of the last 2 decades. They had everything needed to do well, including stamina. To suggest they didnt have that is laughable. Starluck may well be the next top class 2m hurdler. But I have never seen him prove his stamina. And you dont win Championship races at Chelts without that. He's a speed horse who has produced his best form on flat tracks. No point arguing any ore, I think we've all said what we think. |

* next 2m Chaser.

Finally, with regards to me knowing more than you about racing, I clearly do.

By:
I don't think anybody is suggesting that Starluck will be the next top class 2m hurdler! The Arkle is run over fences!! C'mon, get with it.

You think the horses who win the Triumph and Supreme normally have more stamina than the Arkle winner? I did not mention the word stamina, horses beaten by a superior group can stay further than they did over hurdles imo. |

Good morning lads and lassies. Today is a new day, had a bad one yesterday.
Apologies to anyone I upset. Except Eric, that is. There comes a time when you cannot jusify your position, discover the error of your ways or even win or lose the argument and this may be one of them. I may be wrong about Starluck. But I also may be right. I don't want them to risk him being injured simply to prove my point. I hope I'm bigger than that. I hope those who claim their position is right will similarly allow the fact that, as yet, this point is unproven. Some of us tried hard to prove our point and we were prepared to back it up with hard cash. I doubt those on the opposing argument did the same. But hey-ho. It's only a bet. No-one died. Let us see what the future holds. |

Quiet confident that if he were to run in the Arkle jumping like he did yesterday,Starluck would have a fair chance of winning.Having watched his last few races its clear to me that the horse has strenghtened and would have no trouble with a 2m chase at Cheltenham, given decent ground.
I dont buy this have to stay further business at all.A horse to win an Arkle needs to jump, travel and be able to finish a race over 2miles.I think watching the horse, that he has it in him to do just that. Nowt i have read on here this morning would alter that view. |
By:
Nobody needs apologise to me, I dont have 50s and am not desperate for a run which you are regardless of what is best for the horse. Realistically, if they hope he might be a chaser they need to give this small horse more experience of the bigger obstacles to improve his confidence and not do a Mikael D'Haguenet by running him inthe most frenetic chase for novices there is on only his second outing over fences ... his confidence will be shot to bits both over fences and at Cheltenham for years to come if they rush him and he hits a few and/or tires up the hill.
Sensible thing to do is go to Sandown as a confidence booster then suss out whether he is seeing out the race before gradually building him up for a big next season when he is fully equipped. The only people clamouring for him to be rushed into the Arkle against the advice of his jockey are those who have a big price (it is obvious who they are) and arrogantly dismiss McCoy's comments. |

Not desperate for a run - please explain the Captain Chris threads then Eric

These are some trainer quotes -
"He's going to run over fences either next week or the week after and then, if all went well, he could run in the Arkle," said Fleming. "We'll just have to see what happens on his next run as that will tell us if he likes it or not. We'll play it all by ear." If they are using their ears AP his jockey has told them he needs to go give the Arkle a miss as it comes too soon for him. |
By:
Captain Chris is a fairly experienced chaser now he has been in Graded race battles and may go either Arkle or Jewson as the trainer has stated.
Starluck is very inexperienced and if they take AP's advice will be given more time. |
By:
Captain Chris runs in the Pendil next and already has a lot of Graded experience over fences.
By:
Starluck probably wont be running in the Arkle unless they go against AP McCoy's advice will be interesting to see if he progresses the right way given time.
By:
Eric to quote AP Mccoy"He's a brave little horse. He does lack a bit of size and scope but he wasn't frightened and has loads of bottle. At odd fences it did feel as if it was tough for him, because hes small, but he's got the engine for it.Alan needs to do what's right for the horse though".
Nowhere here does he say that they should miss the race and if you were unaware of the fact it was in response to the point made that the trainer may be thinking of an alternative target by reporters. If Alan Flemming does choose to miss Cheltenham and go elsewhere then so be it but stop clutching at straws and trying to base an arguement for Starluck on flimsey interpretation.Yes i have backed Starluck at big prices and i do want him to run but you often pass what is your opinion as fact and truthfully its a bit pathetic |
By:
He was interviewed and did say he thought the arkle was too soon for him which ties in with him finding it tough remark in the other quote above.
By:
Like I said before Eric you're like a virus. No matter what is happening whenever we think you have gone you pop up somewhere with your negative comments. You haven't backed Starluck so why don't you b u g g e r off onto a thread where your views may be interesting.
By:
You dont know what I've backed brigust1. However rest assured I wouldnt be camped out on Starluck threads like you trying to get a run for my money on mug Yankees ahead of the horses best interests which A P McCoy and the trainer have said is the main consideration.
By:
You seriously place antepost Yankees ... ffs give up man.
By:
This is a discussion forum you tw@t. Why don't you buy a dictionary and look under the letter 'F'. Just past the word 'forum', which you don't understand, you will find the term 'f u c k o f f'. Follow the instructions.
By:
Yes I think you do place Antepost Yankees ... thanks for answering my question in a 'round about way'.
By:
personally its not my type of bet,but why do you have a problem with someone that does Eric??
and why do you keep having a dig at someone?,cos you have nowt better to do?? |
By:
Hi Bud. DB ran well today. Don't think its good enough to win the big one tough.
Don't worry about EM. He's thumbing through the dictionary as we speak. He's at 'B' for bu g g e r off and then moving on to 'f'. If he manages to get that far I'll direct him to 'g' for Get Lost. If he keeps this up we will all have to wear face masks when he comes on in case we catch what he has. |
By:
I'm not the person having a dig in the first instance which is obvious to a plankton ... but not to you buddeliea.
By:
..maybe that is because you have also backed Starluck for a few quid at big prices and declare the horses wellbeing against the champion jockeys advice be placed on the line.
By:
no,you never do sunshine, thats why everyone on here has a go at you.
Anyway i have decided to take your advice, and block you. you post nothing worth reading. |
