Not sure AP is the ideal partner for him,but they could certainly have got worse!!
Good news that its all systems go for the Arkle,and a lot of eyes will be on this race Thursday. |

Now't wrong with McCoy on board, this is reminding me a little of Well Chief; Who had one try over fences in February then next one in the Arkle where McCoy gave him a peach of a ride, one of his best imv.

apart from having just the one start prior to the arkle i cant see the comparison to well chief
well chief had 40 days after his belated fencing debut where as starluck will have only 22 well chief went to the arkle as a 5 year recieving the old weight for age allowance, and in the triumph hurdle when he was beaten a short head by spectroscope, he showed he had the class and fight to win a festival race starluck has not showed he has the class or battling qualities to be a champion imo. as i've said before if people have got big fancy prices fair enough, but not for me |

Wasn't comparing them, just the situation RE experience/jockey.
He's not a bet for me either, I could never bring myself to bet a horse before I see them jump a fence. Nonetheless, he'd be an interesting runner in a sub-par renewal. |

It isn't a sub-par renewal there is a future Queen Mother winner in the race imo and a good one.

Always a fan but remember Alan Fleming saying 18 months hasn't the scope to jump fences. Hasn't yet shown Chelt is his track and no reason that should change now. Suspect owner has had his say hence Arkle appears last minute change. No doubt he will probably beat nothing on Thurs and be halved in price, Ghizao looks solid choice for me.

Fleming issues bullish bulletin on Starluck By James Burn 12:26PM 4 MAR 2010 TRAINER Alan Fleming identified Go Native as Starluck's biggest threat in the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham on March 16, but said hewould rather back his runner at their respective prices. Go Native finished a short head in front of Starluck in the Williamhill.com Christmas Hurdle at Kempton in December and is vying for Champion Hurdle favouritism with Solwhit around the 7-2 mark. Starluck, on the other hand, is as big as16-1 for the Grade 1, despite advertising his wellbeing by scoring on the Flat at Kempton on Wednesday. "I'd rather back my horse at those odds," Fleming told At The Races on Thursday. "We're going to be a bit better than at Christmas and the ground will suit him better - good to soft will be fine. "I don't think the [Cheltenham] track will ‘unsuit' him that much." Interesting eh? Couldn't find any comment about chasing from 18 months back. |

Starluck oozes class on reappearance By JOANNE YARBOROUGH 2.38PM 17 OCT 2009 Report: Cheltenham, Saturday Sportingbet.com Hurdle 2m½f Old Course STARLUCK asserted his class with an oh-so-cosy victory under Timmy Murphy on his first start of the season, earning a quote as short as 20-1 for the Champion Hurdle in the process. Returning to the scene of his highest rated run, when fourth in last season's Triumph Hurdle, Starluck was positioned inthe rear off a pace set by Classic Swain and Saticon, with Silk Hall and Simarian just in front. The 5-6 favourite moved up ominously approaching the second-last, and cruised up behind the leaders after jumping the hurdle, before settling just behind the driven-along Classic Swain. A big leap at the final flight propelled Starluck past his rival, and he simply coasted to the post for an impressive victory. The blinkered Classic Swain showed determination to hold onfor second from top-weight Simarian in third. Murphy, who rode Arkle favourite Sizing Europe to win the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2007, was understandably impressed with Starluck's success, saying: "He's as good a two-miler as I've sat on in a long time." Trainer Alan Fleming added: "Timmy thinks the horse has improved over the summer and he has no problems with the Cheltenham hill. I must admit I was worried beforehand as all his wins have been on flat courses. "We have a couple of options in November at Newbury and Haydock, but Kempton and the Christmas Hurdle will be the long-term plan." Paddy Power offer 33-1 for Starluck to win the Champion Hurdle, but Ladbrokes were obviously more impressed with his victory, pricing him at just 20-1. |

Im off too huntington today, just too see starluck run...im a bit dissapointed the field has been deminished...He looks really short in the betting today...In which is not going to be a truly run race.

Will be a decent enough test today against two winners over fences. And Pasha was rated 138 over hurdles so hardly really poor opposition. |

Alan King has a runner as well so with Medermit favourite for the Arkle he won't want Starluck to have an easy.
Fascinating race. Will the Arkle betting be changed after 3.05? |

Of course having always been ridden by Timmy Murphy we may see a different Starluck with AP up.
TM has a particular way of riding and this horse may well be better given a different approach. When he was beaten at Haydock by Mr Thriller on soft ground you can bet Tom Scudamore knew exactly how TM would ride the race and saved a bit for the finish. |

Finian's Rainbow, one of the favourites, has run in 3 races with 3,4 and 3 runners and has started 2/5, 2/13 and 2/5. So b o g off. |

Good luck to those on at decent prices, but I cant see him getting up the hill, whichever obstacles he is jumping over.
You need a decent stayer for the Arkle imo, and I dont see this horse as being that. |

Eric, I think Brigust1 was just pointing out that others at the head of the market have done no more than Starluck will achieve today (should it win).
Don't get upset by it, it is the difference of opinions that helps form the market. If we all agreed the fav would be 1.01 and then 1000 bar!! |

You are also wrong if you think todays race will equate to what the market leaders have shown over fences in the build up. |

hes a massive runner in the arkle if his jumping holds up why dosent alan fleming give him one more run then take him to aintree a fresh horse that track would be perfect for him hes not a cheltenham horse bloody good engine mind

Can't see how him winning a simple course like this is any different to another quality hurdler winning on their debut in october say.
I'm sure his odds will be far too short in the day based solely on his hurdle mark. I've be very surprised if he won the arkle. Good luck to those who are taking a chance. |

There isn't another runner in the Arkle field who'd have placed 5th in the CH. With regards to course form it must be pointed out that the CH was at Cheltenham!! He has now shown that he can jump, granted it was the strongest race in the world but I think that you can level that at the form of any of the contenders this year. 1st rate chance.
