Eric you are an absolute joke. You masquerade on various threads spouting your biased opinion on which horse should run where, anyone who questions your view whether that be the connections of a particular horse, or anybody on this forum who dares have a view on that horse that is different to yours is everything from an idiot to a cretin to plain wreckless.Stop the pocket talking and cut out the waffle your not fooling or impressing anybody
By:
Beggar's belief what some posters come on here and say.
To think the owner and trainer would not have the welfare of their best horse at heart is naive in the extreme. You let yourself down there, Eric. Every day you bet on any sort of horse racing there is a risk, NH and Flat. You are either a punter or you are not. Don't come on here and try to grab any moral high ground just to suit yourself. |
By:
Mate I dont expect a balance view from you on this, like brigust1 you have taken a big price hoping to get lucky. Let's hope the horse is lucky and his opponents coming out of the Arkle unscathed and he doesnt bring anything down with him if he cant handle jumping fences at pace being so inexperienced.
By:
Believe it or not i can give an unbiased opinion Eric.I looked at the prices and thought he was overpriced so i opened my eyes and ears and decided to back him at what i thought was a price that was too big.He may lack the experience or the requirements needed to win the Arkle but at the prices he represented value imo.
By:
What if he brought down Finian's Rainbow for example. Horses should be given experience fencing before being pitched in late like this it could cause carnage and would if other horses were pitched in this late.
By:
So basically the point your trying to make is that every horse in the Arkle should have to have more than one run over fences before being allowed to compete in the race?
By:
Go away and grow up, Eric. You should be on the RSPCA forum, not here. You are ruining a perfectly good thread.
Experienced horses fall, Denman fell ffs, Kauto Star fell, Quel Esprit fell and hampered Mikael D'Agenet. Stop being silly. Moscow Flyer fell. |
By:
I am bringing reality to the thread mate. If you think it would be a good idea 16 novices with only one half pace outing less than two weeks before the race going twice as fast on faster ground in the quickest novice chase there is on a stiff undualting track then I would suggest you were wrong.
By:
Eric. Its ridiculous to suggest connections would risk the horse if they didnt think he could cope. He has a run coming up anyway, and I'm sure if he jumps badly they wont go for it.
Trainers and particularly owners, have the saftey of their horses as first priority. No matter how big the race, that would never change. So you'd have to assume he has schooled very well. I personally couldnt be a backed as I think its a huge ask for a horse on his second run over obstacles, but you're taking it way too far. |
By:
So you think that there should be a ruling that states that every horse should have had more than one run to be allowed to run in the race?yes or no Eric? i'm not argueing or trying to be clever i'm asking you what u think?
By:
I think it could be time to introduce rules with an emphasis on race experience/outings for the novice chases at the Festival for the safety of ALL of the runners.
By:
surely a hurdler going chasing is a matter for both the bha and the rspca
![]() |
By:
Thats fair enough i'm sure there will be plenty who agree with the sentiment. The only problem i'd have with that is what if a horse has won a race earlier in the season and then had a setback and hasn't been able to find a suitable opportunity before cheltenham. Or what happens if the weather has had a massive disruptive effect on the fixtures and horses are forced to run on bad ground to qualify. It can also be argued that little is acheived in winning two or three novice chases with 3 or 4 runners that are effectivly walkovers in some cases and prove little

not what I said

From what i can tell, eric correct me if im wrong a novice with little experiance should not be aloud to run in the Arkle, i can see where your coming from, but if you start making rules like that then if a horse fell last time out, then surely its not safe for him or his competetors for him to run over fences ever again?
If you think about it kauto star shouldn't be allowed to run over fences again because he's fallen before, but starluck never has!!!! |
By:
I'd run it in the Arkle. Apart from Realt Dubh, I can't see anything to get near it, those at the top of the market are there by default and anything decent should be in with a big chance. Historically, highly rated hurdlers win the Arkle and the favourites wouldn't have been on the bridle between the last 2 at Newbury, like he was behind Peddlers Cross and Binocular. He's not going to win a Champion Hurdle and surely there'll never be a worse Arkle.
By:
Never a worse Arkle fk sake where do you get that from? This looks a very good Arkle imo. Bad Arkle's often can be claimed that when they arent. I believed and still believe last years was a bad Arkle as there werent any specialist 2 milers in it worthy of a Champion Chaser in the making other than Captain Cee Bee who jumped like a dog. This year has specialist 2 milers in Ghizao and Finian's Rainbow.
By:
Eric last year's Arkle included Sizing Europe, 166 rated hurdler and Osana, 165 rated hurdler.
This year you have Ghizao, 135 rated hurdler and Finians Rainbow, 145 rated hurdler. Go figure. |
By:
Sizing Europe is not a top class 2 miler never was. You get staying types can win Arkle's but when there are specialist 2 milers in the race they normally take it if jumping well imo.
By:
^^^^ like Starluck??
By:
Sizing Europe not a top class 2 miler never was!!!!!!!!!!!.Not bad for a dual grade one winning chaser and a horse who managed to win the Irish champion hurdle
By:
No not like Starluck, he hasnt even jumped a fence in a race and there is just over 3 weeks to the race.
By:
What is the horse who has been winning Grade 1's in Ireland over 2 miles but is possibly the most one paced horse ever? Wont even be going to the Festival, Hurricane beats him without breaking sweat. You get the idea re Sizing Europe over 2 miles.

re starluck..
the race its entered in at huntingdon could be very hot. dan breen ,georgio quercos,mr stickler ,american trilogy all entered up. |
By:
Wouldnt call that hot tbh ... lukewarm maybe.
By:
That race would be as good as any of the favourites for the race have already won except Realt Dubh. If he won that, he'd have to be single figures for the Arkle. He's also very likely to do so as he likes Kempton, a similar track.
By:
id say it was hot enough 1st time out.trilogy pissed up lto,dan breen lagged up,georgio would have his optimum conditions...which would see him go very close...this would provide a severe test fto over fences..tbh
By:
Put it this way, you would need binoculars to see any of those at the finish in the Arkle.
By:
booster, i cant believe your comments. how can you say you cant see anything to beat it. he hasn't even jumped a fence yet.
he has nice hurdle form but its a very bold shout to say that. people who have fancy odds fair enough, but personally i would never back a horse who hasn't made his debut so close to the festival. would much rather watch him first. eric your comments about the horse is a danger to others is one of your worst. you haven't seen him jump yet. he might be a natural and any horse can fall or make mistakes. when people disagree with your thoughts you just shoot them down. fair enough you have an opinion but so can other people |
By:
He can say it because he has a big price and rose tinted glasseson.
By:
OK, perhaps slightly tongue in cheek, but I'd prefer 25-1 about a 160 rated hurdler than 9-2 135-140 rated hurdlers who are not usually good enough. I've not been impressed by anything other than Meade's horse and, over hurdles, nothing in here would get him off the bridle. I accept the risk but like the price and Well Chief, a very similar type, did it. The only thing I would say is he might be best fresh but I think there are others shorter in the betting who that applies to.
By:
Yes why dont they all just go straight from hurdles into the Arkle, no dangers experience doesnt count after all.
By:
He's not going straight for the Arkle and, if he can beat that field, he'll probably learn as much as the others have so far. It's all relative to the price, some horses learn quickly and there's a precedent for this. The other horse that did it was ridden by Timmy Murphy so he'd have a fair idea if this horse could do it. I assume he schools it and knows its class.
By:
remember well chief had the added bonus of the old 5 year old allowance.
if he turns out to be as good as well chief then yes he will probably win but its a huge ask imo |
By:
Noland wasn't too far away either in his Arkle and he only made his chasing debut on 23-Jan
By:
Just two and a half weeks between his first run over fences and the Arkle. ... oh dear can see the horses confidence in fencing knackered early doors then back hurdling.
By:
The point about the 5 year old allowance is valid but Starluck is 6 so wouldn't qualify anyway. I can accept he'll need to be exceptional to win but I've honestly seen nothing on this side of the Irish Sea which screams top class and it is a horse race, even though it's called the Arkle. Looking at the field, 25-1 screams value.
By:
to be fair, noland ran twice before the arkle and got beat 15 lengths in the worst arkle i have seen.
thats what made tidal bay the bet he was |

eric
I sense fear in you. Have u backed one of the market principles and are scared that starluck running is going to put your bet in jeopardy? Imo I think starluck taking his chance here is an very exciting prospect. Connections obviously think he hasnt a chance at winning champion hurdle. So why not take a leap and run him in a weak arkle field. Theres no question that hes has schooled over fences billiantly. If prep run all goes well, hes going to be a lively contender. I think theres still a bit of value backing him at 20's. After all going back to his hurdle form he beat medrmit by 6 lengths in last years champion hurdle. Hes rated 18lb higher over hurdles than finnians and double that of ghizao's. (Talking of which is a redicolous favourite for this rate..probably the lay of the festival). Im actualy talking myself into having a very nice bet on the starluck. |
