Mullins in today's Post: "We have not yet decided to stop chasing with him..."
By:
He will go in neither. He will be in the 2 and a half mile race - muppets!
By:
Quel Esprit will be in the 2m 4f race, fits him like a glove speed/stamina wise.
By:
Temlett
You were told wrong COM Well in fact, I actually heard Willie say it - I just didn't want to say that! |
By:
alexmilwall - you are a muppet! Time for Rupert is a machine, it will win the RSA Chase.
By:
Alex, this is not a hurdle race we are talking about. And as it happens i aint that impressed with Mikd's hurdles form anyway,he beat a load of stayers in the Neptune, none of which have exactly been that great since aside from Diamond Harry who dont seem to act that well at Chelt to me,and he beat Cousin Vinny in Ireland.
As for jumping, which is what matters,TFR looks to me a lot better in that Dept |
By:
COM,
If that is what you heard then fine. It would not surprise me in the least if he is covering up for his own error. |
By:
Buddeliea,
It has little to do with his chances of making the grade over fences, but that comment about the Neptune win is way off.. It was a red very hot renewal. You have mentioned Diamond Harry. Karabak is a grade 2 winning hurdler. China Rock is a grade 2 winning chaser. Kockaara Beau has been a little disappoiinting but is still useful. The Nightingale is a Grade 2 winning chaser. Realt Dubh is a Grade 1 winning chaser. Mad Max is a Grade 1 winning chaser. |
By:
red or very take your pick!
By:
Yep, hopefully Mikael can show he's back to his best in the Moriarty. Willie was on Get On earlier and said that that its all systems go for Feb 6th!

Mad Max is a Grade 1 winning chaser. Lot of poor grade 2's there, and not that convinced on the standard of the Grade 1's either.None of that lot can i see being top notch, certainly not in the way some people are bigging up Mikd anyway. |
By:
Think we can get a bit carried away with the Graded race thing,a lot of them aint that good imo, especially the ones on cr&p ground in Ireland.
By:
They can big up Mikael all they want. At present he just ensures that there can be better value on other horses.
His jumping out to the right (has done it many times) is a major cause for concern. He has plenty to prove at the moment, despite the solid look (you disagree) to his hurdle form. |
By:
I agree it has a solid look,no getting away from that. But when i have a real good look at those Races tied in with the Neptune,i honestly dont see real top notch stuff,i really dont.Certainly not enough to justify some of the things i read about Mikd.
Each to their own though, after all we are betting against one another, cant all agree!! I do accept i may be wrong and he could justify everything written about him,i just aint so sure as some seem to be that his form is as good as it appears to be.. |
By:
He's had one bad run in his whole career and people are writing him off. Very harsh in my opinion!
By:
bud if mikael hadn't slipped in landing on his first run he's have won. Then it is fair to think he may have bounced last time out. So he clearly deserves his chance to show his worth on his next run.
I don't get your dislike for the horse, he's big odds for the rsa and arkle, it's not as if he's a fav or anything. |
By:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ agree whole heartedly, Big Bucks pissed on TFR and I don't rate anything he's beaten either, Look at the horses behind MD when he won the Ballymore in 2009, Karakak, Diamond Harry, Mad Max et al
By:
Think I'm agreeing with something which has dissapeared, also MD kicked Cousin Vinny's arse who would have kicked Pandoramas arse if he'd stood up.
By:
Mik did hammer panorama also that season. Which prompted meade to tell mullins that mik was his best novice. Telling him he knows how good realt dubh is and he knows how good this fella (pando) is,, so you're lad must be a helluva horse.
We shall see. |
By:
MDH was a very exciting and top class prospect and his novice hurdle form was superb no matter which way you want to argue it.
By:
CV,i dont dislike any horse, thats not what i am saying at all.i just dont think his form justifies the stuff i read about him, thats all really, bit like others think about other horses. He was a good novice,i aint saying he werent, but imo still has some way to go to prove he is as good as some say he is.
I sometimes get a tad annoyed with some of the stuff i read about Nicholls horses as well that imo still have it to prove. Maybe i am the only one that thinks that Mullins and Nicholls horses tend to get people going a bit overboard about them,if so,well i can live with that. |
By:
Indeed he did CV I'd forgotten, Pando was odds on that day as well
By:
I agree, he gets a lot of press bud. You're right that it's linked to the amount of money he won for many at Cheltenham and the belief he could be a star chaser, something we've been missing since Kicking King. He may well be that yet. Enough has been said about him, best wait and see if he can beat his stable mate in a couple of weeks.
By:
Fair enough mate,
Think i need to chill out a bit re Mullins etc. |
By:
Is Mullins being totally straight on running plans here. He is saying Mikael goes for the Moriarty then in the next breath he has said Quel Esprit goes for the Moriarty. Is Mikael already destined for hurdles or is he really intending to run both in the Moriarty? We know he was meant to have 2 in the Irish Arkle until withdrawing QE late.
By:
You've done your cash (as illustrated on this thread) by backing MDH for the Arkle in March anyway Eric. Time to let this one go tbf
By:
fancy that challenge or still going to wimp out ?
By:
Willie may not have decided running plans and is under no obligation whatsoever to openly disclose them.
If I was the owner I would insist that Willie keeps plans to himself and the person that pays the bills. |
By:
I have combis on the Arkle with big prices for quite a few easily beating the current market .. unlucky once again thicko.
I dont do challenges other than to win money. If things go to plan you may hear of this come March and not from me. That is the only challenge I do and dont have anything to prove to anyone on here. I also dont care what anyone thinks about me so sod off and stalk someone else clown. |
By:
Not the old pays the bills boring sh1t. Maybe punters should never bet again and tough for all the trainers who give disinformation/lack of information as their stables crumble due to lack of funding in racing from the punter.
By:
Yes it is absolutely the owner's entitlement to know everything about the horse and if the owner wants the information kept secret then the trainer should be obliged to do so.I am sure you never attend a meeting (or very rarely) and put very very little into the game.
Close to the time, then yes he should let people know. However he should not be forthcoming with information all season and outlining every plan, just to facilitate the building of person's ante post portfolio (real or fictitous). Mr Ricci however seems to be very forthcoming with information when he is interviewed, so the lack of info with regard to Mullins horses seems to be entirely the trainers decision. |
By:
At the end of the day connections need to be reasonable with punters or else many will be drivenm away from the sport. Now there is massive competition from other sports I dont think you or industry people whether it be administrators, trainers, courses can say stuff the punter it is my business because they are in the entertainment/sports industry where marketing is incredibly important for the future of what many see as an ageing sport.
By:
Also your post completely misses the mark. We are talking about being forthcoming and straightforward about planned targets what if someone is planning a journey just to see their favourite horse and ends up not attending the races (which you may fictitiously attend or not also). The owners are entitled to more information on their horses chances I agree but targets should not be stated unless they intend running when they say it.
By:
Does anyone find it rather strange he's been entered in The Arkle and the RSA but not the new 2m4f race? Makes little sense why they would not eneter him.
By:
trainers/owners dont see any prestige in the race, winning it is not on most the old skools agenda. I really cant see him going for the arkle so lets hope he stays up in the moriety then rsa here he comes. TFR looks like hes on steroids but he'll be a bottom half grade 1 horse if he is one, and very beatable
By:
Aye, maybe. The fact he's entered in The Stayers in case his chasing doesn't work out does make you think the RSA will be his likely target.
Pity, I backed him for The Arkle ![]() |
