Would say if It is jumping confidence then the horse needs to be reassured quickly and getting around last time helped that. If we dont see him come out and show the promise of his first run over fences again in the next couple of months you would have to scratch him from being considered a Gold Cup horse of the future.

What is it with these Mullins hype horses.Mikd,Zaidpour the latest 2 that cannot be defeated unless there is something amiss with them.Keep racking up the excuses and give my regards to the poor house when you get there.

MDH was a prime candidate to bounce - long lay off, impressive on reappearance (bar slipping on landing at the last) then runs like a drain 2 weeks later. TBH I can't believe Mullins isn't aware of this type of scenarioConfused

Also as brandyontherocks says it seems bonkers to run a horse who has had such a long lay off in two Grade 1's in the space of 3 weeks- after that fall on debut he should have been looking for a nice little race to restore his confidence and get his career back on track.

Zaidpour has less of an excuse but I still feel he didn't run anywhere near to his best - half tempted to back him for the Supreme now the price has drifted markedly.

Zaidpur ran with more credit than MDH. He got beat in a photo whilst MDH jumped worse of the pair that day imo.

I'd rather put a line through Zaidpour's run than MDH tbh, simply because MDH is not reliable on the injury front as his career to date suggest.

Zaidpur at 10/1 is cracking prices imo if we knew thats where he was heading.

has it occurred to anyone that they might not be as good as some seem to think they are,in particular Mik d??
Would not be too harsh on Zaidpour, after all he is an improving type, and probably did not like the ground the other day.
Certainly think Mik d is rather over hyped by some.

Yes, Mikaels form is pretty average. Do yourself a favourite and look at the horses he beat in his novice hurdle season without a proper test.

They are all stayers, one of which would have probably beaten him(karabak)had mccoy been awake on the day!! Cousin vinny??
Two chases, one he did not finish, the other pretty much rubbish.

He patently bounced on Thursday.

Bud - MDH may never reach the heights due to injury etc, but he is/was clearly top class and the bad run the other day was simply waiting to happen - just very poor judgement from the trainer (who should know better. Though who knows, it may have ruined the horse for good.

Think they should try the RSA with him he will have more time at his fences and can ease into the race as he did first time out. Repeating that run alone and staying on his feet might be enough to win an RSA as Jessie's is a major contender for that and think he had him covered.

The really smart thing to do with an eye on the long term would be to go for the PJ Moriarty on Irish Hennessy day followed by the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse. I would then throw the horse in against the seniors in the Punchestown Gold Cup. However, Cheltenham is the be all and end all these days and i am sure he will end up there most probably in the Arkle.

What do people want? WM criticized last year for wrapping him up in cotton wool, he's good to go this year and WM get's criticized for running him.Willie can't change the weather and he needs this horse to race when the opportunities arise. It was as clear an example of the bounce factor as you'll see. Arkle cert this oneCool

Is entered in the Irish Arkle at Leopardstown.

surprised at the entry, would have thought mullins would know he is a stayer, mind you this is mullins!!
By:

He has natural cruising speed so not surprised by the entry though it is debatable whether the RSA or Arkle is best for him. He was in the process of winning a Grade 1 first time up without breaking out of a canter before going to the last against Jessie's Dream who has a major chance in the RSA.

Perhaps running in the Irish Arkle first will let them know the RSA is the best option if he is beaten again when up against Realt Dubh and co again at the trip. Alternatively, if he wins showing he bounced last time after such a long time out, they would probably go Arkle to keep his miles down with a view to the Gold Cup next season.

Shows once more, for people who forget the likes of Therealbandit etc, you need to learn to jump efficiently at novice level for a season before joining the seniors so all this nonsense of him running in the Gold Cup this season can be dropped.

up early Eric!!

RSA or WH for me if he runs at Festival.Depending on his jumping next time out.If WH he would interest me,think that could be his game.
Just dont see anything in him that screams 2 mile chaser.Mind you i said the same about My Way De Solzen!!

Mullins has admitted to messing up running him in two Grade 1's after such a long break having read his RPost column. He then goes on to say he has NO PLANS ... lol ... only a trainer or banker can totally mess up then give themselves the option of not sorting out the mess they have just created. Zaidpour he does have plans for strangely after also bouncing.
By:
sintonian
When: 02 Jan 11 10:06
Apparently Mullins does have a plan for Zaidpour but not for MDH.

That makes perfect sense to me. Zaidpour just ran flat the other day, and only got beat a neck on the line. It is very easy to put a line through his run because he nearly won.

MDH on the otherhand jumped out to his right badly and hanged. It wasn't just a bounce factor in play there.

On the Arkle thread our mate Eric Morris laughed at some of us for backing Royal Charm and losing our money. Looks like the shoe is on the other foot now.

You are a total liar sintonian you said you had me blocked when in fact you are removing it to read what I say .. nobody knows what my bets are on any of the races as I havent said and that's how it will stay. I have made you look stupid many times already this season how long must it go on?
By:

When: 12 Jan 11 21:01
Looks more likely to go for the RSA now, performed way better at the longer trip when he was extremely likely to beat Jessie's Dream if he hadnt knuckled on landing. Very weak for the Arkle can see Flat Out being the trainers horse for that now if he performs with credit in the Irish Arkle a week on Sunday.

myself i dont think zaidpour bounced on his defeat,i would say he was given a fair bit to do by townend and finished off well enough on pretty bad ground and will improve hugely on better springtime ground with a step up in trip imo and it probably did him a favour finding out what racing is about rather than just cantering over horses in ireland as is bound to have to be hard pushed to win a race at any of the spring festivals.

mdh..well the 2m run was too bad to be true after he ran so well before crumbling to the ground like a tired horse when alongside jessies dream,i'd say he was being held onto on his first start and had the time to get into the race without doing much but ultimately is unlikely to scale the heights we all thought possible before his injury...chase form now reads 2f5 hardly inspired stuff

Well, if Mr Mullins runs Mikeal D'Haguenet in the Arkle the horse will finish tailed off. If he is to go anywhere it would be the RSA Chase but I will tell you now, he won't even go to Cheltenham. Mark my words!

i agree, arkle wont suit and i feel is a unlikely rsa horse anyhow,a back to hurdling plan should be put in place imo

When: 13 Jan 11 12:14
I think you will see him in the Arkle. It's not a very strong renewal atm in terms of depth and I think a stiff 2 miles will play right into MDH's hands. I think he would do ok in the RSA but being the gruelling race it is I can't see it suiting a horse who's had as many problems. It's fair to say he bounced in his last race after such a long lay off before his first run it was bound to take a lot out of him.
By:
CVByrne
When: 13 Jan 11 12:37
Horse will run in the arkle, please reserve judgement on him until he runs in the irish arkle. He bounced at leopardstown. Horse would gave won his only other chase start but for a skip on landing,  unfortunate.
By:

When: 13 Jan 11 19:56
If he runs at the Festival it will be the RSA. Flat Out is the stables no 1 Irish Arkle and Arkle horse now. Has the beating of Jessie's Dream it would be a brilliant spectacle him against Time For Rupert in the RSA where his jumping would be given more time.
By:
Mayweather
When: 13 Jan 11 23:47
Mikeal will run in the RSA Chase. Don't listen to CVByrne, the guy ain't got a clue. He is a muppet! Mikeal DF'Haguenet will get done for toe if he ran in the Arkle. Step him up in trip, that was the problem last time although he def ain't as good as he was. Time For Rupert will stuff Jessies Dream out of sight in the RSA Chase.

Assume that whichever of Mullins is selected to run in the Irish Arkle next weekend will be his number one Arkle hope.

Willie Mullins plans to stick over fences with his top-class prospect Mikael D'Haguenet.

The three-time Grade One-winning hurdler made his long-awaited return from a lengthy absence at Fairyhouse in December and all appeared to be going according to plan until he tipped up at the final fence.

He disappointed on his next appearance at Leopardstown a couple of weeks later, where his jumping let him down as he finished a well-beaten fifth.

But the champion trainer said afterwards that the run had come too soon for his charge and he decided to bypass this weekend's Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown to give him more time.

"I'm happy with him, but we just decided to wait a bit longer," said Mullins.

"He's in the Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase (February 6th) so we'll look at that, but I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do.

"He has an entry in the World Hurdle, but at the moment that is just a safety net.

"At the moment, the plan is for his next run to be over fences."

Owners wanted him to go in the Gold Cup which Willie was'nt keen on, we are now unsure if he will venture across at all, he has to run a really big race next day out for him to travel, if he does it will 99% be the RSA, Flat Out is  going for the Arkle so that can be scratched, that leaves him with the two

I think mullins is in a win win situation...  if he runs in the moriarty and runs well but get beat he is still a novice and therefore he could go for the RSA as if he beat in that he will still be a novice and stay that till next season.. cant see him jumping hurdles again

Doubt ruby will get off BB for him in a world hurdle

Was told that Mr Ricci wanted to run the horse at Christmas despite the fact that Willie wanted to wait a little bit longer. The race came too soon and he's now as big as 16/1 for the RSA because of one bad run. Still the horse to beat in the RSA and looks a proper bet at 5's for the Dr PJ Moriarty in two weeks time....

its the RSA!and if he can get his jumping sorted he'll win hard held!!

(p.s he hasnt lost his ability and he IS as good over fences, he was winning on the bridle 1st time up, and he got beat by a street by that same horse he was going to beat 1st time out, why? the answer  is simple....he BOUNCED) , do yourself a favour, no matter what race this horse to goes to the festival for, back him, he'll win!!

Trouble is,we can only judge on what we see,and i aint been that impressed to be honest, but have with TFR,and anyone who thinks Mikd can beat him hard held, well thats hard to believe.Certainly on what i have seen, and thats how i judge and back, not on the word of people i dont know.
No offence intended, after all some of you may know what you are talking about.
Saying things like he WILL win, that dont really help imo.

i just dont think TFR has beat anything decent, yes he jumps well but as per his hurdling i think the top of the top will alwasy beat him. I think mikael d'h fits in that group if he gets a clear round.
