I've got a feeling they both like them both!

Henderson said today that Barry had two big decisions to make. Grandouet or A Media Luz. Spirit Son or Sprinter Sacre. He said regarding Spririt Son or Sprinter Sacre "I know what I think I would be doing but I'm not going to say". His charity bet was Spirit Son but make of that what you will.
By:
You're probably right then,Masterminded.

By:
Both Sprinter Sacre and Spirit Son will line up in the Supreme Novices Hurdle. Master Minded is right, Nicky likes them both but prefer Spirit Son out of the two in the Supreme Novices Hurdle. He believes he's a proper hurdler with the credentials to win the race where he thinks Sprinter Sacre is next years Arkle horse. Barry believes Sprinter Sacre is the better of the two and is thinking of riding him in the Supreme rather than Nicky's fancy.
By:
Yep Mayweather you summed it up pretty well. I'm pretty sure Barry has said he will ride Sprinter Sacre already.
By:
I am convinced Sprinter Sacre is the better of the two horses. The horse will take his chance but Nicky would prefer to put him, away for the season and start chasing next season but the owners want to run so they will. I think Sprinter will have a much better chance in the Supreme Novices Hurdle if there is cut in the ground. He is a big actioned horse that will appreciate getting his toe in. He has a great chance.
By:
I'm confusedddd. Why would Barry make Spirit Son his charity bet if he actually wants to ride Sprinter Sacre instead?
![]() Moreover, why is there is a big decision to make between Grandouet and A Media Luz. I know A Media Luz is settling better now and she looks to have improved quite a bit, but Grandouet beat her easy whilst giving her 17lb. Plus I thought A Media Luz was still going for the Triumph? |
By:
Just been talking to someone on twitter who was at the preview day about Sprinter Sacre. NJH "He's going to be a wonderful chaser in next year. He has a huge ammount of natural talent. He might get two and a half miles in time but doesn't run or work like a horse who wants two and a half miles atm". Nicky then went on to say how much Barry liked him but he prefers Spirit Son.
The way I see it is Nicky see's Spirit Son as more of a hurdler and will really suit the Supreme. He would probably much rather save Sprinter Sacre wrapped in cotton wool for next year chasing. I don't think the owners were that bothered about the Supreme but Barry has said he wants to ride Sprinter Sacre. I would be suprised if Sprinter Sacre would even be running unless Barry was on board because I really think it's only his decision that the horse is even running in the race. |
By:
Whoops, I meant A Media Luz for the Fred Winter, but sounds like she is going for the Triumph anyway.
By:
This must be very hard to call with even form at home with novices so difficult to evaluate with 100% accuracy. I must confess Sprinter looks the one for me on the balance of his improvement and raw speed. A tough one to call but taken 11.5 on Sprinter today as it does look like Barry will be on board

once barry rides he,ll be 5-1 on the day

From his blog today:
I think Sprinter Sacre is very good. He was keen in the two-mile novice hurdle but he was never stupid and with a better gallop he’d have no problem settling. He jumped well but I got him in close to a couple just to teach him a bit more and he was good. There was not a single negative to take out of it and I hold him in very high regard. The team has two outstanding two-mile novice hurdlers in Spirit Son and Sprinter Sacre and it won’t be an easy choice when it comes to the Supreme Novices. |

Ummmmm.......
SPRINTER SACRE NOT READY FOR CHELTENHAM SPRINTER SACRE (36) is now as short as 7-1 for the Supreme Novices following his easy win at Ascot last week. But I'd be very surprised if he managed to place in the big race at Cheltenham. The main reason I doubt Sprinter Sacre's Cheltenham chance is because he ran like a really green horse at Ascot. He pulled hard and raced with his tail held high all the way until the fourth last when his jockey finally let him stride on into the lead. And even then his ears were still going all over the place. These are all mannerisms of a horse that needs a lot more seasoning before being ready to take on top class competition. I'm rating Sprinter Sacre on the time he took from the third when the pace quickened up which was exactly the same as that they ran in the longer novice hurdle earlier on the card. When I adjust for the shorter distance Sprinter Sacre ran this suggests he put up no better than a Listed class performance here. Besides his need for more experience it looks pretty clear Sprinter Sacre wants fences and a longer trip before showing his best form. He's built for going two and a half miles plus over fences and his two winning siblings both took cross country chases in France over 2m 4f to 2m 6.5f. Trainer Nicky Henderson says he would like to stop with Sprinter Sacre for this season and bring him back over fences next term. His owners however are apparently keen on going to Cheltenham. My advice to them is listen to your trainer. |

^ Who wrote that MLK?
By:
Nick Mordin. Not always right m8 tbh, but does try to justify his opinion rather than just spout drivvle.
By:
Indeed, same view as the trainer I guess. I want him to run, but until I see him declared, I'll remain slightly concerned.
By:
I presume this is the same Sprinter Sacre of whom the trainer says 'he doesn't look like, or work like a horse that needs 2 and a half miles'.
By:
Whether Cheltenham will come too soon in his career is possible but how Mordin can interpret from the evidence of his racecourse appearances that he wants further is beyond me.The horse pulls hard and has speed to burn.
By:
"my advice to them". Who does he think he is!?
From what I heard they were not even keen to run him there before Geraghty said how good he thinks he is. And as for the horse needing 2 and a half miles is an absolute joke. Mordin is a prat. Like many racing journalists they are very arrogant and blinkered in their own opinions and are 9 times out of 10 completely wrong although they state everything like a fact. |
By:
Mordin said last year that Chapoturgeon was exceptional winning the Jewson and should win the Ryanair. It wasn't even good enough to run. He is sometimes right but very often wrong just like most of the journo's he states an opinion as if fact. It is his opinion that's all.
I think Henderson is under playing this horse to keep the heat of himself and let Cue Card's connections take all the talk etc. Horse is very good - we'll see in March if he's the real deal. I hope he is ! |
By:
Suspect Mordin has backed Spirit Son! You are right fb, he is a speed horse who may be immature but deserves to take his chance. If you read Barry Geraghty's blog, he deliberately put him wrong at a couple of hurdles last time to teach him. He jumps hurdles well for a big horse and has won a decent bumper on good ground very easily...when presumably he was even more immature!!
By:
BJG has already told us he will ride Sacre. ''There was not a single neagtive to tkae out of it and I hold him in very high regard''.
In his mind, this horse has the best attributes for a Supreme. He'll ride him if NJH gives the thumbs up. |
By:
Erm....'the team has 2 outstanding 2 mile novice hurdlers - 2 SS's - and it won't be an easy choice when it comes to the Supreme Novices'.
Doesn't sound like he has made up his mind to me. |
By:
It's open to interpretation, but that is how I read it,tbh.
By:
I hope you're right! As BG is the only jockey to have ridden the horse in a race, it would be a major plus to have him up in the Supreme.
By:
I don't imagine Sprinter Sacre would run if Geraghty chose Spirit Son, but although he says it's a difficult decision I think like Sint the fact he has bothered to make mention on Twitter of how highly he regards the horse would probably indicate he fancies it more
By:
Nick Mordin? Do people still listen to this guy???
![]() |
By:
hey lads Henderson sees both sprinter and spirit daily, Barry schools only every now and then, ok he rides them in there races. Both look mightily impressive, but surely Henderson would know which is better.
He has been all over spirit and thinks he the one to be on. I actually can see them coming home first and second, but in what order??????????? |
By:
Almost completely dry forecast for the next 2 weeks - should be perfect for Sprinter, as long as Claisse dosen't forget to turn the hoses off.
7/1 with PP and money back if Cue Card wins, or 7/1 nrnb with B653 seem fair shouts to me ![]() |
By:
NRNB best option imo
Uncle, Claisse will esnure Good to Soft. Last year when it was dry in the build up he watered to make ti GS,S in places, otherwise by Friday it would be GF |
By:
Ground was good on the first day last year. He called it good to soft
but changed it after a couple of races. |
By:
you sure FB, I thought he called it GS,S in places after admitting watering the track ?
By:
the ground was slightly less than good, the press/chelts always call it g/s before the start.
By:
Tues March 16th 2010
Good to Soft (Good in places) changing to Good(Good to Soft in places) after Race 5. Going by the times it was never softer than good. |
By:
Looks like this is on the slide too ever so slightly
By:
Told you all weeks ago he rides Spirit Son and you still debating it???? Helps pass the time I suppose :o)
By:
I never thought they would run both - guess one will go to Aintree and given his obvious speed I suppose they see that as the better race for Sprinter Sacre - shame
.Personally don't fancy Spirit Son for the Supreme unless it's genuinely soft. |
By:
They'll both run at chelters uncle.
And yes Spirit Son will prefer it soft. |
