I'm in a holding pattern atm. Waiting on Cathouse Spares to find me an idler pulley to replace the air pump. Once I get that I can begin reassembly.
In the meantime I've bought a bench grinder from Aldi for $29.95. Unbelievable. 12 month warranty. Got some metal polishing wheels from Bunnings and I am in business. ![]() |

I've cleaned and polished the fuel injection manifolds as best I can but they still never look quite right. Polished aluminium can go from shiny to black before your eyes in seconds. I've just never liked the way they looked. So I thought of painting them. I don't like the look of that cheap chrome look from a rattle can. Then I discovered stainless steel paint. Looks awesome. Has a metallic glint.

I've always wanted to clean up the cylinder head nuts. But you need a torque wrench to tighten them up to the exact spec. NOW I have a torque wrench!!

Perhaps swap the torque wrench for a pair of glasses.....if it actually is a torque wrench

Recently I saw an automatic transmission for sale on ebay at a ridiculously low price. I bidded for it and purchased it for $59. I don't need a transmission but I thought at that price why not. I might need it one day. And the day I need it there won't be one on ebay for $59 I'll have to go to some dealer and pay $700 or $1500. So I drove out to Avalon to pick it up.
It sat in the back of the ute for two weeks. My 6'1" 90kg son is living in England these days so it was just me and my feeble wife to get this 100kg lump of metal into the back shed. Initially all went well. We got it into a wheelbarrow and guided it down some stairs. Then we must have lost concentration. The wheelbarrow hit a bump and tipped sideways and the Borg-Warner flipped out and down some sandstone stairs. FXCKIN HELL!!! I was so FXCKING FURIOUS and naturally blamed the wife at some length. She got the sh1ts with me and told me to shove my transmission up my ass. Eventually and I do mean eventually and with a load of regrets about ever buying the fxckin thing I got it into the shed. |

I dunno what's happening to me lately. I think I'm spending too much time reading Jim Value Bet's threads and it's giving me a very warped perception of reality. I've been on an absolute binge of home renovations lately. I feel like a contestant on the Block but without fabulous abs and a fit wife and the prospect of a $250k cheque coming soon. To get away from the smell of paint fumes I decided to check out a Jag I saw on ebay that wasn't too far away from me. I mainly just wanted to check out the engine bay and take a few photos for a reference as I struggle to remember how mine goes back together when I finally get around to re-assembling it.
Somehow or other by 4:56pm this afternoon I am now the owner of TWO 1976 XJ12 Jaguars. I'm like 'what just happened?' |

The other night I was walking out of Masters hardware when I was approached by a little fellow from another part of the world. I won't say what country suffice to say it's a communist controlled billion population joint that burns a sh1tload of coal. Anyway this bloke wants to sell me an impact wrench thingy. Possibly an unwanted birthday gift. Said it was worth $600 and he'd let me have it for 250. Cut a long story short I got it for $100. I was very proud of myself. I thought of Forum Legend VeryLTU and imgagined his approval of this form of business. Surely this is how they roll down in St Albans!!
Anyhow I got it home and after struggling for 20 minutes to get all the packaging and strapping and cable ties off it I finally got the case open. I discovered I just paid $100 for two house bricks!!!!!!!!CXNNNNTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!! |

Very, when I first inspected the Jag V12 engine bay I was struck by how ugly it is. The massive fuel injection manifolds and the spaghetti like hoses and pipes running around everywhere. But it's grown on me. I love the way the engineers who designed it have made no effort to hide things. On the back of the radiator cover is a mass of relays and electrical gear that they've just bolted on there for convenience. The engine at idle is quite remarkable. Incredibly smooth. The block doesn't even vibrate. It's a thing of beauty!!

Something that really annoys me. The price of oil is about 1/3 of what it once was. Petrol prices have gone down, not enough imo but the price of engine oil is still the same. Why isn't a 5L $30 engine oil now not $10?? Massive Rip Off!!!!

yep he's probably just a st albans boy trading his way around oz... just like his brothers back home, no need for a shop just a hi ace and a parking space at the local woollies. One thing he could learn is to steal proper junk before you sell it though. Somehow in st albans the clients also seem to know where you live
and can return the defective goods....... right through his window. |

A series 3 so probably an 80s engine, slightly different to mine but you get the idea. Jag V12.

FFS the Forum is not working at all tonight. Or is it just me?
I heard on the radio a rumour that Masters is going to close down. It's bleeding cash big style. I occasionally go to Masters and I see a big problem with the staff they employ. I don't feel in the least bit inclined to ask a 16-21yo about anything at all related to matters hardware. They look like they should be working at Maccas. I want to see decrepit old tradies, complete with well earned beer guts, blokes that have given up the tools for a cosy retail job before they permanently move into their shed. A man like that I can respect. I can ask him a question and there's a bloody good chance he'll know the answer. A 19yo girl may look good but I would never in a million years ask her anything about hardware sh1t. |

Masters was the dragging anchor to Woolworth's akin to the worthless son bringing down the reputable father.
If Wool were smart, which they ain't they would have gone to Westfarmers and offered to sell them the whole Master's shabang, for a song, thus tripling the Bunnings outlets. At last bean count they were losing $40 mill per 1/4. Both joints started off with the Illusion(ex tradies as staff)and once the masses were blinded they slowly did the slight-of-hand Texas shuffle. |

VW Golf has sh1t it's transmission. AGAIN!! Three years ago it blew and I got it rebuilt, cost 3k,now it's out of warranty and it's gone again. The incredibly poor driving of my two offspring means that nearly every panel on the car is dented so it's virtually worthless. It's a shame because mechanically it's fine and very well maintained.
So I need a new daily driver. A few years ago I sold a mint low km SS Commodore to a mate. I was thinking of asking if he would sell it back. He's hardly used it he spends most of his time in Afghanistan *****ing *****heads. But then my wife pointed out the obvious. Do I want my son and daughter, car muppets, driving around in a mint SS Commodore? Well obviously not. I'm thinking a daily driver I have to share with people that put dents in cars and leave their rubbish and never put petrol in it is about $2500. It has to be auto. They can't drive a stick and I can't be bothered changing gears on a runabout. I can take a 2500 loss if it all goes t1ts up. Now a sensible man would start an internet search in the Toyota Corolla section. Not me. |

My first thought was a cheap running Jaguar. Maybe a series 3 or an XJ40.
Then I had a change of mind. I'm thinking a 1988 or 89 Mercedes 300 Coupe. $130000 new back then. That's probably 250k in todays money. One of the greatest cars of all time. Bulletproof 6 cylinder can go half a million kms. Classic styling. I think the last of the great Mercs before they got all stupidly complicated. |

Won't be easy to find one for 2500. A mint one can still get 10k+
