sportsbet r the same now............weak as water, and we should all stand up to the NT authority of gaming and ask for a limit of bets which must be accepted
By:
I read on here that a limit was introduced a year or so back, what happened there??
By:
Joel, they wouldn't even let me attempt the bet. I could have been trying to have $1 on and it wouldn't have mattered. They've locked the money I deposited too. Think I will contact the NT Authority about this. No doubt I'm one of many but if we all just let it go these low dogs are never held to account.
By:
it was never passed because the bookies opposed it and not enough back lash was given from the punters....i have started my own little war against these 2 betting firms now and will bag them to anyone thats listens, and tell them that their best betting options r with the tab, betfair or a local bookie. they r a pack of accountants and suits that have no balls what soever and now we have the UK,European betting systems on our own shores.
By:
Yeah I know mickey, happened to me on the gallops too, I am not sure how these people can promote 'responsible gambling' when the only people they accept are losers....
By:
I know read took the money and ran, AND GOOD LUCK TO HIM.
hoewever he must be cringing at what has happened to his love child |
By:
It's fair to say this never happened when Read was at the helm, but then his publicly listed company never made any money and the share price didn't spend much time heading north.
We have to remind ourselves that in the end this is a business attempting to be profitable. What they seem to have forgotten is that they need a good public image to attract business and their appalling behaviour is the real problem, not the fact that they have too many winners. Maybe they have the cart full of money before the horse race on this one... |
By:
A lot of hot air and sarcastic criticism seems to go on here.
Way I see it us you need to take action ..do you have a print out of the above explanation from them. If two people walk into a shop and both want to buy something and one is refused then thats against the law. Instead if threads after threads get a lawyer get in touch with authorities it is clearly illegal practice and uf you have evidence they are discriminating then even get i Your local mp involved they liove to spruik how betting places take advantage if people make them aware that they get rid of winners like you. The mps and some media would be stunned to know that " losing cleansing goes on" |
By:
So, as posted before, add your experiences on
http://www.bookiesreviewed.com.au/ don't just limit them to the Betfair forumites. No I'm not involved with the site just think it's a great idea. |
By:
Thanks for the link silver. I've added my piece....although they already have the lowest rating possible and several others with similar stories to mine and others here.
I've now closed my account and will be interested to see if they try to hold last night's deposit. They had the nerve to advise "Your account is now closed, if this is due to problem gambling you can contact...etc". The only fking problem is them. Full steam ahead for a book of mugs. Surely the mugs don't punt enough to make this a viable business?? Bowlers here we come. Am in the process of writing to the Authority and Mr Xenephon seeing he has such an interest in this area. Wonder if he ever considered this side of the issue. |
By:
Mickey,
I've been thinking the past few weeks, of writing to Nick Xenephon. The fact, IAS and Sportsbet, are only looking for losing punters, may be of interest to him. |
By:
maybe try the greens as well - http://richard-di-natale.greensmps.org.au/portfolios/gambling
would be interesting to see what they say |
By:
What was there answer to the last question
By:
Castiron. I wrote to Xenephon today. The more people that do this the more attention it may get.

people, before you go writing to politicians stop and think about the end result.
A politician won't put together legislation aimed at one or two corporates, they'll use the information to take a swing at all internet betting. Is that what you want? Politicians have their own agendas and spin information to achieve their own goals. Be careful. |
By:
Whoopi, they're already doing that in case you hadn't noticed. At least this sort of information provides them with some perspective other than the well worn problem gambling drone. I do agree that all politicians have their own agenda but personally I'd like to see the issue out, known and discussed at the very least.
The more bad publicity that can be drawn to these joints the better. Anyway if all net betting dies then we're back to illegal SP's who might actually take a bet! |
By:
they don't care about the uncompetitive aspect of gambling, all they care about is eradicating gambling. If you wanna give them additional ammo, go ahead.
They won't discuss the problem you raise, they'll just load it into the " all gambling is evil gun" and fire away. What would make you think an anti gambling pollie cares about the plight of the average punter? |
By:
I am aware that if you are a winner on these markets it can affect greatly the overall profitability for them due to low liquidity.
On the metro races I doubt you would have any issue getting on. Cheers, www.runnersthatwin.com |
By:
yeah homie......don't know if this is supposed to be a forum for pushing your product?
By:
So that's what we do then whoopi, just sit back and cop the disgraceful behavior of the greedy corps, while they have there spin doctors out lobbying the polis all the time, Mickey also drop Aline to the NT racing Dept. telling them that the corps should be compelled to bet to a certain limit. Shout from the roof tops about these greedy fckers from England and ireland
By:
who said do nothing? not me. just don't shoot yourselves in the foot.
Use your heads. Pollies aint the answer, they'll be counter productive to what you want to achieve |
By:
Whoopi are any of them any good ?
If the answer is NO, and it seems it is hard to fins a wrap for any, then what damage can they do. For me it has run for circle, I only bet on the 3 scabs now, and sheckeles of business here |
By:
I think it's good for the pollies to know there are winning punters out there, might give them a bit more perspective imo
By:
yes womble, because politicians are known for their open mindedness and willingness to see both sides of an issue
They're never dogmatic and blinkered in their use of information... I must be living in a different country to you. |
By:
whoopi
who said do nothing? not me. just don't shoot yourselves in the foot. Use your heads. Pollies aint the answer, they'll be counter productive to what you want to achieve spot on i reckon whoopi ... pls do not 'load the gun' ... via the pollies ... for the anti-gambling crusaders if you don't agree with ias practice ... do what they want you to do ... just DENY them your business ... or load up a bowler or two |
By:
Bowlers last half a dozen bets these days with their tech. Write to the NT racing and state your case about limits on bets if u have accounts with these fleas. The poli's aren't going to take away what we have already got, it doesn't matter how anti gambling they r, the states aren't going to let them kill off the best cash cow they have.
By:
i hear you loggy ... and agree re the bowlers
trouble is we're talking about 'limits' and 'dollar volumes' of bets the pollies won't care whether ... you want $5 or $50 on a horse ... after all THEY think it is recreational lol ... (and might see IAS lessening the limits as assisting "responsible gambling ) |
By:
Fair point thebas, but the one thing corps hate is bad PR and that's why we must push this all over the country that the Australian general public will not accept the disgraceful way of betting that Paddy Power and other English firms are trying to make the norm
By:
Total mess in England. You can walk in a "Betting Shop" and stick 100 on a machine at 103% to take out 500 max and repeat it all ****ing day if you can afford it. You can then walk to the counter of the same Shop and ask for 100 at 5/1 or similar on a bet on a Sporting events and be told "no bet" or "25 max" etc.
Disgusting. |

Most recent tale of woe for these scam artists:
19/3 - I enquire as to my account details via Live Chat, as my account has been dormant for the best part of a decade. Would've been a small-time (but losing) punter 10+ years ago when active. 21/3 - Deposit $2k. No deposit bonus, no bonus scamming at all. 21/3 - Bet One: Shatin (FXD) - Lose $500 21/3 - Bet Two: Shatin (FXD) - Lose $500 21/3 - Bet Three: Shatin (TOTE) - Win 22/3 - Bet Four: Addington Greys (TOTE) - Lose $1,000 25/3 - Bet Five: Shatin (FXD) - Win Account Closed. Five bets, three losers, two winners. |

Was your username the same as your betfair forum name? That might explain it

Ballsy, your bets were too spread out with 5 bets over 3 seperate days. As such you must know what you are doing. They only want punters that know nothing & will bet on every race until they lose.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your email to Nick. He is currently out of the office and has asked me to respond on his behalf. Nick shares your concerns on this issue and will be very happy to follow this up further at a Federal level. He is very concerned about the practices you mentioned and those raised by others who have been in contact with us and is looking into ways to improve the legislative arrangements regarding sportsbetting. Thank you for taking the time to write to Nick on this issue. Kind regards, Danielle Danielle Forsyth | Correspondence Officer | Office of Nick Xenophon, Independent Senator for South Australia Lvl 2/31 Ebenezer Place, Adelaide | TEL: 08 8232 1144 | F: 08 8232 3744 | www.nickxenophon.com.au The information contained within this email may be confidential and/or legally privileged. By:
Sadly I think Nick Xenopon's way of 'improving legislative arrangements regarding sportsbetting' would be to ban it.

By:
Lol, wouldn't be hoping for too much from someone who lives at Ebenezer Place.
By:
You may be right Joel, that may be his preferred scenario, or perhaps the man has just never been given all sides of the picture. Zero chance that net / sports betting will ever be banned in this country - even if he wanted it to....imo.
By:
And yeah Khan good point, I should have signed off with "I won't be holding my breath waiting for a follow up response once NZ raises this at a specially convened Senate committee"! I feel better now though

Just had IAS' parent company Sportsbet knock back a 100 bet from me on a 11.00 shot footy bet, drop the price to 9.50 and offer me 9.00. IAS went from 11 to 9.5 at the same time.
They can't even take a 1k exposure bet now? WTF is the point? |
By:
they need to be shut down
punters club is pushing Sportsbetting . com . au - has anyone signed up yet? they reckon they'll bet you to the limits on track - not sure about sports limits though |
