After a reasonable start another disappointing first week, and what's becoming the usual shambles on a Saturday. Just glad I am not having to sort out that mess. Yes, winners are difficult, but making one selection shouldn't be an issue. I feel for the captain.
Anyway, thought I would go early this week. 3.35 Curragh Mayflower EW I don't think this is the strongest Grade 3. The favourite has only won a maiden, and is very short on the basis of her pedigree. She might be good, but who knows? Mayflower beat three subsequent winners on her debut, and was just over 7 lengths behind the subsequent 1,000 Guineas winner on her seasonal debut. That despite appearing to race on the 'wrong' side. Having been produced to win her race, it looked as if she got tired in the final furlong. Hopefully, that was just fitness, and she will see it out better today. I just thought 20/1 was too big. Fingers crossed. |

Right race for a shock, wrong horse. She has outrun her odds, but doesn't stay a mile, particularly a stiff one. Had she done so, she could well have finished third. The market seemed to know as she doubled in price.

Morning all,
I have gone for Tiffany's Girl in the 19.05 at Wexford for a 10 point win - currently 5/2. The mare won well last time out- same going -at Cork (Hunter chase 3 .5 m) after some decent point to point efforts and is daughter of Mahler. As i said she won comfortably last time out and I reckon shd handle the 5lb rise as she is scoring significantly higher against her rivals on current form ratings. Looks like an improver and im hoping she can make it two wins on the bounce. On a seperate matter -I am off to Skiathos for a week tomorrow and am not sure of the internet connectivity . I might not be able to keep my eye on postings. Could somebody monitor it for me just in case i cant get acsess. Much appreciated if somebody could and good luck with your selections!!!! |

Masaban 19.40 Doncaster 10 points win.
Ive gone for some points on the board here which will hopefully top up any bigger priced winners we get. The horse had a very impressive handicap debut and looks to be the best horse and well in on the ratings and hopefully will manage the weight rise. |

Daft thing is we are not out of it, but it's going to take a huge change of fortune to have any realistic chance.
I dread to think how much money punters will throw away today, many just because it is Saturday. I haven't bothered, after a while it becomes much easier to leave them alone. Last night I narrowed it down to three for the purposes of this - Yes I'm Mali (20/1-11/1), Izzy Fast (did shorten, but back out to 12/1), and Oolong Poobong (6/1-4/1). The last named was the only one I had any prior knowledge of having backed it at Royal Ascot. On that form it clearly has a big chance, but has clearly had issues, and hasn't run since. The trainer says it wants soft, but I am not sure about that, and whether it wants a mile rather than a stiff seven furlongs. It's too short as well now. There was no obvious fluke about Izzy Fast winning a maiden at 50/1. Can she reproduce on a totally different track, and first time in a handicap, albeit a poor one? I am a bit concerned about the stiffer six furlongs. You could argue that Yes I'm Mali is pretty exposed, but this is only his third start for the stable. The jock won a couple of big field handicaps at York, and yesterday added another couple of wins at Newmarket. The big question mark is the step up from winning a class 5 off top weight to running in a class 2 off bottom weight. It could all be too much. So despite the drift I decided on:- 3.27 Newmarket Izzy Fast EW Very limited confidence, but fingers crossed. Hopefully, we can get something today. Good luck. |
