Momm - further to The Fruity Kiwi's NR, and being deducted a £ as a result . . . He was deducted a £ because it was an Invalid Selection, not because it was a non-runner. . . . I would be glad if you could tell me where, in the 'RULES' of the competition does it allow this? I cannot see that there is any timing issue mentioned. It's not in the 'RULES'. I imagine it comes under the heading of 'COMMON SENSE'. Whoever wrote the Rules probably thought it would be an insult to everyone's intelligence to spell out that you can't select a non-runner. (The rules are set out at the beginning of the month in Div 3 for the benefit of newcomers) They are also set out at the beginning of the month in Div 2 for the benefit of old lags, most of whom have never read them. For the vast majority of competitors, it is not practical to be double checking their selections. Not everyone has continuous computer access, and loads are working or otherwise busy. If you've got computer access to post a selection, then you've got computer access to check the market and make sure the selection is still in the race. It only takes a few seconds. And I repeat from my previous post that there is no inference that this non-runner was selected deliberately. It never occurred to me that it might be until you mentioned it. I do believe it was a genuine mistake. It cannot be right that there is one rule for Div 2, and another for the other divisions. I agree. That would be ridiculous. Fortunately, the Rules are the same for all Divisions. There have been cases in the past of unscrupulous players deliberately selecting non-runners in order to steal a £ from other players. That £ could make all the difference at the end of the month. That's why I do my best to look after the players in Div2 (you included!) and meticulously check all non-runners to make sure they were posted BEFORE the horse was declared a non-runner. And as I wrote in my previous reply, I allow a certain amount of leeway for genuine errors as I know from personal experience that they can all too easily happen. Obviously I can't speak for the settlers in the other Divisions. I have no idea how thorough they are in respect of non-runners but I imagine they all check them as meticulously as I do. A non runner is a non runner - end of! Yes. Of course. If it's declared a non-runner after the selection has been posted then it goes down as a non-runner - end of! But if it was declared a non-runner and taken out of the Betfair market 9 hours before it was posted as a selection, then obviously it will go down as an Invalid Selection. It's a complete mystery to me why anyone would think it should be allowed to stand as a non-runner. Truly bizarre! Again, I ask, please give him back his squid, as I do not believe it was yours to take. Then it needs to go to arbitration. I have no objection if you wish to take this further. Maybe the situation SHOULD be clarified in the Rules. So, assuming you are actually being serious about this and it's not just a massive wind-up, then if you feel strongly enough that players should be allowed to select non-runners and thereby gain an unfair advantage over fellow competitors, I suggest you take it up with whomsoever is in charge of the Leagues. I'm just a temporary settler who agreed in April 2011 to do the job for a limited period until a permanent replacement could be found. In fact, I'm not even that any more. I resigned from being Div 2 settler at 02:53 on August 4th (I'm sure you remember) and became Settler Without Portfolio, a permanent stand-in for holidays, sickness, seething spur-of-the-moment resignations etc. That hasn't changed. I'm now just covering Div 2 until some other mug can be found to take over. The job's yours if you want it. Give me your email address and I'll send you the spreadsheet. You'll love it. It's very rewarding and doesn't take up any time at all. look - it's snowing 04 Aug 12 07:38 MOMM - you do a great job. I will try to behave........... Try harder. ps Why can't the Fruity Kiwi and his Rodent fight their own battles instead of using you as a go-between? |

Apologies to everyone else but because of my ongoing quest to locate a missing canine, the bit of time I had set aside this morning to do the table has now been used up with responding to look it's snowing's query. Yesterday's table will now have to wait until either tonight or tomorrow morning. Sorry.

Morning momms/all
The n/r issue can be a grey area, there are others too. It`s down to the individual settler to police these grey areas as best they see fit. I know a point was raised the other day re who`s in overall charge in Calling All Settlers thread. Well in Division 2 momms word is final, he settles as i do in fairness and without favour. Anyway: ![]() |

It's probably because they/them have multiple alter egos and pseudonyms throughout the divisions that sometimes they cannot all agree with each other and at other times they forget to check what there other egos and pseudonyms are doing .... it's a bit like not knowing your @rse from your head. |

###...THE INVALID SELECTION DEBATE ...###
I posted this piece earlier today, but because I have the poorest connection of anyone in the Comp -- being up the Yorks DAles and lucky to get on ... it wwemt astrayin the ether as Mobile lost connection ...so I am in a Library 9 miles away im nearest access point posting this --so please read --those involved ... I was "penalised" on the day BEFORE the lat day for an invalid runner as opposed to a Non-runner ... I had used the Daily Mail, for my selection, as I do every day , it showed a "doubtful" runner in my race -- but had mine looking fine as a runner.... I honestly believe mine would have won the race... Having a really dodgy connetion when up in the DAles i am pleased to get ANY post on , espec my selection --and dont have time to check for NR ...that is MY problem ..nobody elses... the paper is delivered very late morning up here ...by van ...i am here every other week... MOMM posted later that my horse had been declared a Non-runner 2 hours before I posted.. andI was deducted the £1 ...I was deep in relegation trouble and it meant i would HAVE to select a winning nap on last day and then pray i survived... I realised any other course would inadvertently have given me an advantage over my relrgation rivals ...and acceptd as a gentleman that would be unfair ...I made NO complaint ... we are ALL gentlemen here (i would hope) and would not wish to gain an unfair advantage in a friendly comp... I accepted that...andonly post here because of the ongoing postings .. THe organisers ...VOLUNTEERS, do a smashing job -- and Momm especially so in this month of extreme stress as he searched the island for his missing beloved pet ... he still maintained the comp throughout this time .. I would ask those "pestering" to now LAY OFF PLEASE ...in the sense of the Comp's good sport and goodwill... let's move on --- and Yes bring in a written rule that in the last 2 days of a comp all non-runners are losers of £1...and that these people can post another if discovered in time within the rules... would end any controversy... we are ALL gentlemen , and good sports i hope, so let us ALL act like that . thank you. |
