That's a classic American Idol trick - stage the homecoming in such a way to contrast the acts by promoting their 'popularity' and thus chances of winning.
Seen it before a couple of times now on AI - one act goes home to LA or NYC to be greeted by one man and his dog, while in Hicksville the whole town are out doing a parade. OK, so Liverpool is not quite Hicksville, but almost ![]() |

Tears from Matt -
WENNX Factor's Matt Cardle ended up breaking into tears after returning to his local pub for an intimate gig earlier today. Cardle performed a short show for friends and family at his local, The Five Bells in Colne Engaine, ahead of his official homecoming show in Colchester tonight. The singer performed his most popular track from the ITV1 talent show 'Nights In White Satin' after pulling pints behind the bar for his mates. Over 200 people watched his performance in the pub, prompting his mentor Dannii Minogue to joke: "I've bought him back to work off his bar tab." Speaking afterwards, a tearful Cardle said: "No words can describe what an incredible experience this has been. I'm not even going to try - and my vocabulary isn't that big anyway!" Tickets for Cardle's homecoming show in Colchester sold out within an hour yesterday morning. |

This year’s celebrity duets will include Rihanna, Robbie Williams and will.i.am, it has been rumoured. According to The Sun, the three singers will ? Christina Aguilera as rumoured yesterday to perform alongside this year’s four finalists in Saturday’s final show!
The newspaper claims the global stars will perform well known tracks with the finalists, but does not suggest which finalist will be paired with which star. Yesterday, it was reported by Metro that Christina Aguilera will be singing with Matt Cardle. A source said:: “A duet between Christina and Matt would be a magical moment – just like when Beyoncé dueted with Alexandra Burke during 2008′s final. “Matt’s voice is phenomenal and Christina can hit notes no-one has dreamed of. They would be a perfect pairing no matter what song they sang.” It’s highly likely that, if true, will.i.am will be singing with Cher Lloyd. The Black Eyed Peas star said: “To me, Cher is like running with apples and oranges. It’s like apples and coffee beans. It ain’t even the same thing. “You can make apple juice with apples but there is only one thing you can do with a coffee bean: make coffee.” Rihanna was previously due to be performing with eventual runners up JLS on the show back in 2008, but had to pull at the last minute. It’s possible she’ll be singing with One Direction while Robbie Williams returns to the stage after dueting with Olly Murs last year to sing with Rebecca. The celebrity duets will be confirmed later this week. |

Twitter is buzzing with the latest X Factor duets rumours. As you all know, it’s the X Factor final this weekend, which means each of the remaining acts will be singing with a properly famous pop star.
If the latest gossip is to believed those mega star singers are Rihanna, Robbie Williams (again!), Christina Aguilera and Will.i.am. It’s already been suggested that Matt will sing with Xtina, but looking at this list of other dueters who do you think will be singing with who? One Direction covered Rihanna’s Only Girl In The World recently, so perhaps she’ll sing with the boys? We can only assume Will.i.am will be doing some kind of rap spectacular with Cher, but after his love of Rebecca has been revealed maybe he’ll do something with her? As Olly Murs isn’t in the final this year, we’re not really sure who Robbie Williams would sound good with. |

More of the same, although this one suggests Robbie Williams and Matt together.
I couldn't imagine Robbie with either of the girls tbh. Christina Aguilera, Robbie Williams, will.i.am and Rihanna have reportedly been asked to sing duets with ‘The X Factor’ finalists on Saturday night’s live show. The a-list pop stars have each reportedly agreed to be paired up with hopefuls Cher Lloyd, Rebecca Ferguson, Matt Cardle, and boyband One Direction in a bid to help them win the hit ITV1 show. While it has not yet been confirmed who will be singing with who, insiders claim Take That star Robbie – who also performed (and fluffed up his lines) on last year’s final to duet with second place contestant Olly Murs – will be paired up with former painter and decorator Matt. |

You are better than the Forum deserves Squares.

Thanks Sq. No Prince, TT. Couldn't imagine Robbie with the girls either, mate.
Has to be with the boys. In terms of middle England appeal, what order would you put the four above? |
|
By:
the stars?
Robbie (out in front, as long as he's not off his head) Christina Rihanna (not much between those 2) Will I Am (lagging way behind) |
|
By:
if Prince is appearing, I imagine he will do his own performance.
|
|
By:
With this list, I would suggest the line up is as follows:
Matt - Christina One Direction - Robbie Rebecca - Rihanna Cher - Will I Am |
|
By:
If Robbie teams up with Matt, surely that's the kiss of death...
If there's no Christina, this is really quite a disappointing duet line-up. |
|
By:
Yes, the stars lol
Presumably Robbie's in good shape with TT back on the road right now |

Sun article suggests Robbie and Matt:
THE X Factor duets have finally been revealed with Christina Aguilera, Robbie Williams, Will.I.Am and Rihanna set to join Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd and One Direction on the Grand Final stage. The international stars have each reportedly agreed to be paired up with hopefuls Cher Lloyd, Rebecca Ferguson, Matt Cardle, and boyband One Direction in a bid to help them win the hit ITV1 show. While it has not been confirmed who will be singing with who, insiders claim ‘Rock DJ’ hitmaker Robbie – who appeared on last year’s final to duet with second place contestant Olly Murs – will be paired up with Essex painter and decorator Matt. But, Matt’s mentor Dannii Minogue is said to be desperate for him to perform his last song with Christina Aguilera, who is appearing on the TV talent show to promote a new song from her film ‘Burlesque’. |

good stuff squares.
my gut feel would be matt with robbie too. and you can't really ignore the star when it comes to x factor rumours. |

Interesting. Cher has described Nicki Minaj as the 'greatest person walking the face of the earth'. |

Rihanna and Christina have a number of well known classics.

just listening to Will I Am and Nicki Minje now - samples Video Killed the Radio Star and heavily autotuned.

If its Matt and Robbie though can you really see One Direction being paired with Christina or Rihanna? Got to agree with Dizzie
1D - Robbie Matt - Christina Rebecca - Rihanna Cher - Will I Am |
|
By:
can you not see one direction doing "only girl in the world" with rihanna?
|
|
By:
OD have just done a Rihanna track so for that reason alone it wouldn't seem totally out of the question.
OD and Robbie would look like a dad singing with his kids. |
