I think Mary will go. she was in the bottom 2 last week and if she is in the bottom 2 eith cher then the panel will save cher as only Louis will vote for her. It really is that straightforward. The only other shokc scenario would be rebecca in the bottom 2 with cher. That would be a surpise.

Looking at the papers the Cowell/Cliffor4d machine guns are trained on Cher. I would be amazed if she is not fired.

Not betting though. My one track mind is only running as far as Stacey ATM.

I do love Shaun and The Mondays. But Stacey is one of the those rare individuals for whom the word lovely is truly meant.

Fanta - there is no sing off this week, bottom of PV only (unless TPTB change their minds at a late stage)

Got to love that we've been able to back Cher to go against so many who still don't realise that there's no sing-off this week!

she's certainly got some rancid press articles around atm too
By:

When: 04 Dec 10 10:02
Squares - Was pondering that too. What do you reckon about her being covered in the press a lot, could that help her (i.e. no such thing as bad publicity)? Hope not of course...

The press around this week seems to have been confirming most people's perceptions of her (arrogant, brat, throwing tantrums, being vile to XF staff, etc.) so I can't see it doing her any favours, whereas with Mary, Matt and a couple of OD (Harry and Zain, I think) it all seems to have been about their illnesses.

Although this series, there seems to have been a lot of talk of illnesses in the press each week but they haven't really featured in the VTs like they used to.  That's not to say it won't happen tonight though . . .

Agree that Cher is definately the value to go this week. Simon will want 1D to win the competition as they will be a license to print money. I'd imagine 1D and Cher have the same voting demographic so if Cher goes this week it will boost 1D's votes for the final. With this in mind, wouldnt be suprised if Cher is up first and Mary given the pimp slot/s!

1d don't need to win to have 'success' afterwards. Which is just as well....

Having problems posting, so in a different account as I see it Cher going this week is one of the bets of the series cant for the life of me see why Mary is odds on.
By:

That's true Cider...I was just thinking that if 1D do not win, they are free to sign with whoever and Simon won't want to run the risk of them going elsewhere. Just my opinion!

I agree that Mary is way too short - but does no-one see value in Rebecca and One Direction?

None of the Cher stuff is "new". That seems to be who she is, but she also seems to have been the one that Cowell has been riding the most in the competition.

Rebecca has received a lot of pointed criticism recently and she's always received #2 treatment behind Cher. Is that likely to change from now?

One Direction supposedly have the teeny vote. However, the past two weeks have seen them rumoured to be struggling with the vote and public votes have them way behind - although Cowell will do all he can to get them home and they almost certainly will close the show.

Personally, I think Mary is way underpriced - and whilst Cher is a decent cover bet, the real value lies with Rebecca and One Direction.

It could TRM.  A variety of factors could come into play tonight and it's important not to be "forgettable".

Mary was in the sing off last weekend, has been ill during the week and she has said The Way We Were is her Mother's song which she has been wanting to sing all series.  If that is her second song it could be very emotional for her, so with all these factors it doesn't look like she will be "forgettable".

Matt has really been struggling with illness so assume that is going to be apparent tonight, so drama surrounding him.

Likewise for OD.  Harry has been ill, and Zain has had to return home because of family illness/problems so they will be a 4 piece tonight.

Less going on with Rebecca and Cher (apart from all the stuff in the press about Cher's strops) so they could conceivably fall into the "forgettable" category if there is no drama around them and/or if they don't excel big time with their song selections.

Cheers shrewd - nothin like puttin a man under a bit of pressure.Have self inflicted financial pressure well and truly exerted already, mate [;)]

I was immediately interested at the start of the week once prices went up. When Fig confirmed through Louis' radio interview that it was a straight PV (on Weds iirc) this became potentially one of the bets (if not THE bet) of the series for me. Realistic B2 Cher/Mary. With the prices simply being wrong. Hope I'm right. If not, blame Shrewd + Squares for their ridiculous rants  Silly + Silly

Also one other thing I haven't seen mentioned is that it's pretty awful weather over here in Ireland, and tonight will be easily the biggest viewing figures of the series over here which should help Mary, as her strong bloc will be out in force.

Did The Star print the numbers to ring today? It was too cold to leave the apartment to check!

Cher's songs

Nothin' On You - BoB ft Bruno Mars
Love The Way You Lie - Eminen ft Rihanna

two very recent, quite similar tracks.

Not going to appeal to a wide range of XF voters unless SCowell does the works about being current and relevant, etc.

Mary and Cher bottom 2 which is a given. Matt and Rebecca will not end up there. So, you are betting on who the judges choose to leave out of Cher and Mary. Louis will vote for Mary and it is odds on that the rest will vote for Mary. If for any reason it goes to the votes then it is 50-50.

With her demolition of Rhiana's song you'd like to think so, but the outrageous ramping by some of the judges would suggest otherwise.

Mary's legit emotion and her age and a bit of Paddywhackery and ya never know [;)]

I wasn't out to get papers today so don't know on that front mate. Roads treacherous here in places, plus I was minding the kids.

There has certainly been a huge push for her. Will put an extra effort in tomorrow AM and put an update here

Cheers think there is a massive uplift in voters at the semi final stage most of whom will be matt/becca voters cher being an aquired taste will not have gained support but mary defo needs an uplift to get past her.

Agree with you. The sub zero weather and driving conditions mean people would watch and may vote. Her emotion will resonate with the Irish viewing public

NXRBL - I think your analysis failed to take into account Cher's biggest asset...  Mary.

She was simply dreadful tonight.  If she fails to be eliminated after that abysmal performance, then I'M Westlife's Auntie!
