Facebook is made up of mostly teenagers. The voters on X Factor are made up mostly of 30 something+
|

wot TM says.
I know jack won't agree though ![]() It was the same with Vickers and Eggnong a mile clear of everyone their year and ending up 3rd and 4th, |

The amazing thing is how poorly 1D are doing on there.

they'll be laughing when they get all Cher's fans

1D's votership seems to be 20 -40 women and 40 - 70 blokes to me

interesting and perhaps the biggest bone of contention amongst us analysts is one d's chance. i honestly believe a few of us are allowing our opinion of them to cloud our judgment re voting potential.
but even so, let's face it, matt's prob going to win this thing |
|
By:
I honestly don't mind them too much nick. They don't repel me, put it that way. I'm not a paedo btw
![]() But I subscribe to the fig view of their ultimate vote-winning potential. |

By:
didnt think you were gb...
yeah it's fascinating, and the key to making money - understanding the demographic of the voters in the final |
|
By:
The fear - and you can see it in the odds - is that Cowell can ramp them home.
But he likes Rebecca equally if not more, doesn't need them to win, and will have trouble stopping Matt |
|

by the way TM:
Facebook is made up of mostly teenagers. this statement is utter utter garbage.... |
|
By:
teenagers make up less than a quarter of UK facebook users.
|
|
By:
I thought Facebook was an upgraded Friends Reunited, ie. bored housewives looking for their first love/old boyfriends.
|

it's made up mostly of stalkers like me squares....

Those who would join a facebook group supporting a particular XF act are mostly teenagers I suspect.
|
|
By:
GTL is right, Facebook is not made up of mostly teenagers!!!
If it was One Direction would have way more fans!!!!! The reason Cher has so many Facebook fans is because she is way more popular outside the UK!! |
|
By:
this is important
facebook isnt largely a teenage social network, like, say bebo or myspace - it's much more middle class and also older.... so, surely these stats are of relevance and cant be dismissed lightly they surprise me, but the obvious explanation is that page views do not necessarily translate to support. cher has notoriety, she is interesting, people may well want to view her performances, but they may well not like her enough to vote for her, this is the way i see it anyway. views? |
|
By:
yep that's probably true fll - but in terms of facebook demographics, teenagers are not THAT big a group.
20-29 year olds are a big proportion. roughly as many teenagers on facebook as people over the age of 40. uk-wise anyway. |

Total numbers irrelevant
![]() Vast majority of Cher's fans were accumulated before the live shows. There's a lot of stale support in there. 1 Direction's page wasn't started until after they formed, so everyone else had a massive headstart on them. But yes rate of increase is the thing to watch with these numbers. Total numbers mean little. |
|
By:
what jack said - totally agree with that.
|
|
By:
yep, fair enough - any stats on rte of increase jack

nickf**kface: Those figures at the top are number of FANS, not number of PAGE VIEWS.
jack12321: Your point that theres a lot of stale support is not true either because you can unlike pages on Facebook. So for instance if one liked Cher during the auditions they can unlike her after seeing her on the live shows and so her number of fans would decrease. I'm pretty sure its the fact Cher is alot more popular outside the UK is the reason she has so many Facebook Fans. |
|
By:
She may well have a big fan base but who would have been motivated to vote after that performance? Same can be said for Rebecca who was poor no doubt massive fanbase but that doesn't mean she topped the votes on saturday. If the stats they reveal online when the show has finished show anything it's the fact the votes fluctuate all the time with various different acts topping the votes each week. Whilst having a big fanbase is no doubt a good thing, it doesn't mean they are going to vote every week especially if the act doesn't peform, we're out-shined etc. There's still plenty who vote for who was the best on the night.

Ashley_Young: What website do you get them stats from? Not being smart, btw.

itv.com will put the voting figures at the end of the show, here is last years

For those who don't believe the figures at the top here is a link to Cher's Facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/cherlloydmusic. You can get all other contestants pages there too. 1,100,106 is what her fanbase is at now!! GO CHER, she is the best by far!! |
|
By:
donal - those figures don't really mean that much. where were these 1,100,106 "fans" at the weekend when she finished in the bottom two (and very likely was bottom of the vote)?

Being chased by somebody angry about shoddy workmanship on a driveway

On the Xfactor poll this weekend, on Facebook, she got got 16% from 3,000 plus votes
In the real world she probably got around 6% |

Tutunka1: As I said already you can unlike a page (stop being a fan) and so the whole stale support thing doesn't make sense. If these Facebook fans are sick of her, they can just unlike the page!
One Direction are terrible and bring nothing in the shape of originality to the show. They are five tossers, who think they are the shizz!!!! Can't stand that Zane fella who refused to dance at bootcamp. He should have being told 'If you don't want to dance, you can f**k off'!! |

how many people can bother though? i like plenty of things on FB that i'm not actually interested in any more. plus being a fan once upon a time doesn't necessarily translate to liking enough to vote right now. analysing social networks and their importance is a lot more complicated than just adding the numbers. back to the point though - if FB fans are so relevant, then why was she in the bottom 2? |
