All I'm saying is coming onto a betting forum and effectively saying 'back someone cos their price is low which means they are gonna win' isn't really progressing the debate is it?

Show Me Love, which was panned on here, was very well received.
The drift after that on here was astonishing. It topped the thumbs up on the official site. It shows the market just doesn't get her. |
|
By:
The two times I can remember when these markets have been way out was -
Rhydian v Leon Lambert v Kris Both times the market became fixated with the showy performer and the more subtle one won. I know cider has said the audience don't do subtle, but it seems the audience do, the market just doesn't. |
|
By:
I was a big part of that drift figgy, I thought it was a decent enough effort, but the lack of movement after all the hype was astonishing. I laid her because I felt the early slot might put her in trouble, because I wasn't sure that Amazing Grace would deliver the moment she was looking for, and because I felt that Matt had songs which could cement his position and 1D had great songs which could firmly establish them as 2nd favourites. I agree that Rebecca beat Matt on the night, but I still believe Matt is miles ahead. Rebecca backers need to rely on Matt still being ill in the final and being stitched up with song choices and celebrity partners for her to have any chance of overturning him on saturday.

show me love performing particularly well on youtube also, for what that's actually worth.
|

I have to admit that I really am not getting her. Just watched it again. She has a great and distinctive voice but I couldn't relax into the song with her and enjoy it. Its as if she is thinking about each note too much and they don't naturally flow into each other. Probably me seeing things through my book.

By:
bunnyman, just green up, sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful tone of her voice.

Show me love was the outstanding performance of the series for me, just hope its not to little to late!
|
|
By:
Her singing was good..but she didn't perform like a winner.
She doesn't work the camera...compare her stage presence to Cher on her first song. |
|
By:
cher's first song was utterly dire.
hope this helps. |
|
By:
maybe aa. but one probably topped the vote and one was probably bottom. ;)

i'm talking about the visuals

Figgy - with the two examples you cite, don't you think that it was more a case of David vs Goliath in both cases?
In other words, people felt that Rhydian and Lambert were both home and hosed, so instead voted for the supposed underdog. Yes, the market often underestimates the underdog status - but critically both Rhydian and Lambert were acquired tastes, and a bit niche, whereas both Leon and Kris had just the type of broad appeal and support that Matt and Rebecca are likely to enjoy. The real threat has to be that Matt and Rebecca's vote is split between the two, leaving the way open for One Direction down the middle. Unlikely, but it could happen. |
|
By:
not wanting to join the crowd, but visually all i saw was a gurning little twallophead
|
|
By:
bunny - you're probably right and Matt still has too much of lead and back on form in the final he could win easily.
I do think however that Show Me Love was her Heartless moment, or Candy man moment. Even though it wasn't perfect in terms of performance, it has still clearly broadened her appeal. |
|
By:
spot on nick!
also visuals don't translate to votes. clearly. |

I'm hardly saying 'back someone cos their price is low which means they are gonna win' I'm saying that he's been favourite right from the start, is now odds on and well clear in the betting and seems to have easily lead just about every poll we've seen. These can't be bad indicators for Matt backers surely. As much as a Matt backer would be concerned about One d and rebecca then they must be at lest as concerned about Matt. Regarding 'The Singing Candle' I thought she was the best of a poor bunch on Saturday but mainly because Matt was definately ill and struggling. With a week to get better I think he'll blow them all out of the water as he has a few times during the series. |
|
By:
Dizzy, yep Leon and Kris had the underdog status, but so does Rebecca.
Of course what they also had, is that they're both good looking guys. That's a massive advantage for Matt in this case. As for splitting the vote and letting 1D in. It depends the size of the vote they're splitting. I'd expect to be 70-80%. I just don't see many people over 14 voting for 5 fairly average kids, when there are 2 much better, more deserving, likeable and voteable singers in the final. |
|
By:
and seems to have easily lead just about every poll we've seen
is the point of this thread not to highlight the public poll numbers, rather than ramp your market position? george is making some interesting points on here about the polls, yet you're ignorantly contradicting a lot of what he's generously sharing with people. |

and for what it's worth lou, you haven't blocked me, i know this. it's very simply to check. so i know you can read what i'm saying.

fll,
Cowell's only way to stop the inevitable is to make it a 3 way final on the Sunday and suspend the vote, avoiding a final 2 vote off. I'm scaring myself now ![]() ![]() |

By:
gents
i hear your very interesting points re momentum and the polls closing, but do you honestly (george, hf, fll) believe rebecca can close the gap on sat. we have to expect that there wont be any eureka moment from her now, so, bar the ramping of the judges and duet choice, can she really be expected to close a 13 point gap....it seems far fetched to me. and one d complicate matters - once cher goes out, presumably at the end of sat , the likelihood is of the teenage vote shifting inexorably to the boyband, which to me makes the chance of the split mainstream vote for matt and rebecca a worrying possibility. |
|
By:
nick - do you think matt topped the vote this weekend?
|
|
By:
I'd still have them as a poor 3rd aa.
Nick - We don't know it is 13%. The best poll out there, YouGov, had it at 10% and that was just after Rebecca's worst performance of the series. You'd have thought it will have closed significantly since when. As for Cher fans switching to 1D. I just don't see it. Cher is the 'trendy' candidate, whereas 1D are as far away from 'trendy' as you can get. |

Hi Guys (apart from Lou who can't read this).
For what it's worth, I don't think it is wise to take the Rhydian/Leon comparison too far in respect of Matt/Rebecca. Firstly, the Riddler was set-up with Katherine Jenkins and to my eyes (better than my ears) the two did not get along and she hurt him rather than helped him, unlike Kylie who went out of her way to showcase Leon. Secondly, Leon was Scottish and (in my view) would not have won if he wasn't Scottish. Thirdly, Rhydian was (when all's said and done) a bit weird and a bit left-field and Matt isn't. Of course, I'm not saying Rebecca can't win, but I believe she needs help in terms of her slot, her song choices and her duet and just as importantly, she needs Matt to mess up, pick the wrong songs, be ill and be given an act to duet with with who he doesn't have chemistry (not impossible, because he is a bit of a spoilt kid and a Mr Know-It-All, I suspect). The final point I would throw in is that it is precisely because Rebecca has not had a 'Candy Man' moment that makes her vulnerable. That song showed Alexandre's versality, showmanship and crowd pleasing side. Rebecca has the voice, but the instinct is she needs to show that she has more in the locker. However, 'nice' goes a long way in any reality TV event and there is no doubt Rebecca beats Matt ten over one in respect of niceness and decency. Best Regards |

Good post LG

By:
Lou why you can't just say, 'fair point - odds mean nothing' and have to role out your record yet again is beyond me. I have won on 48 out of the last 49 major reality tv shows accumulating a great deal of money in the process but when did you ever hear me rely on that in any argument? We get it you have picked the winner from the last four series of XF - great effort, congratulations. My wife picked the winner of 4 Grand Nationals in a row, but she's still a MUGG.
I promised myself I wouldn't get involved in any more pointless debates so I'll leave it at that. |
|
By:
btw, I assume the sentence below is about Rebecca which, if so, is complete duff info as she has only performed last once all series, and that was 4 shows back.
"Yes we've seen her sing about a dozen or so songs so far, twice the pimp slot lately and she just hasn't 'wowed em' once." |
|
By:
rhydian didn't win.
|
|
By:
but in fairness lou traded out at 1.01
|
|
By:
figgy - I have asked you this before, apologies if you have already replied. The yougov results were released after Rebecca's worst performance, but do you know what period the surveys were taken?
|
|
By:
I've only won on one out of the last 49 major reality tv shows. Perhaps that was the same one you lost money on bunny?
|
|
By:
I'm with Lou, in that any 'eureka' moment is likely to come from Matt, if he's fully recovered from his illness. He has the potential to bounce back. With Rebecca it'll be more of the same.
If it's true about Matt doing a duet with Christina, that will be the 'moment' of the final. It's the equivalent of the Beyonce / Alexandra knock-out punch! |
|
By:
It was after Paije's elimination bunny, as he topped their question for the 'favourite eliminated act'.
So in the six days between the Sunday result show and when it was published on the following saturday. It's still not up on the YouGov site though, which is odd. |
|
By:
I agree lg, Show me love wasn't as obviously crowd pleasing or as polished as Candy Man, but like Candy Man, it did broaden Rebecca's appeal and therefore close the gap on Matt.
Will it be enough. Probably not. She's still the only one who can beat him though for me. Matt and Rebecca just tick too many boxes and tick them much better than 1D for 1D to mount a serious challenge in the final. They actually look the value to be 1st out @ 12/1 |
|
By:
Were you on Hayley for DoI LG?

Dizzy
To be fair I think that's just someone guessing at the Christina pairing with Matt and highlighted in one newspaper but if it were true yes hardly a bad pairing is it. |
|
By:
i wouldnt have thought that was a great pairing myself. i once had a pedicure with a very indiscreet beautician who looked after celebrities, and she said that christina aguilera was the filthiest, skankiest girl she had ever seen. i asked for specifics and she recoiled in horror and said 'imagine the worst thing you can think of and multiply it by two'. that was apropos of nothing, admittedly, but music wise i cant see maximum benefit out of that duet for matt
we have all spent hours surmising which one cowell wants to win - as soon as we see the duets we will know. there could be some pretty hefty price changes.... wonder if we can get early word.... |
|
By:
I think Matt will pair up with Norris from Coronation Street, providing he survives the tram crash.
