Does Cobolli think he can win this slam playing 4-5 sets every match

oh boy Taylor.
By:
Poor Fritz. Crowd don't seem that bothered about a US player, their best chance of a home sleep winner, getting beat from 2 nil up

slam*

By:
Fritz has been the last Taylor standing at every US Open since 2020 but that streak is now in danger.
By:
this could be a brutal 24 hrs for the US players.
Serena & Venus, Amanda, Madison, now possibly Fritz. |

tabilo darderi sweeny zheng gea bergs botic khachanov bonzi mensik tien cerundolo likely Blockx upper half, strong era ![]() |
By:
great chance for winner of Mensik/Tien to make semis, but who knows with all this muggery.
By:
That Fritz exit felt very likely after the third.
By:
If it wasn't for Sinner and Alcaraz, this would very much feel like the post Sampras/Agassi - Pre Federer/Nadal era, where the likes of Hewitt and Roddick popped up with a slam here and there. Zverev needs to make Hay whilst the sun shines with Jannick out and Alcaraz maybe not at full fitness, fancy Shelton to make the final from here.

Need Fonseca to step up too
By:
Those two and the occasional signs of like from Djokovic keeps the perception of this era strong, but the depth is not there. The likes of Tsonga, Ferrer, Berdych, Davydenko, Wawrinka, Nalbandian would play circles around Cobolli, de Minaur and Felix.

Blockx 1.14 looks skinny given Flavio might be staging one of his famous comebacks

ATP is desperate at the moment

The fact that Novak on his last legs is still top 5 despite being very much a part timer is quite telling. Compare that to Agassi in 2005/2006 who while still being a tremendous player was nowhere near such a ranking.
By:
Exactly. Novak should have been forced into retirement long ago but the competition is just too weak.
By:
yep, Delpo and Murray as well, even prime Cilic and Thiem.
By:
I don't normally buy on to theories like this, but I wonder if Coco will be extra nervous now with all the other Americans flopping.

Jodar very much a diamond in the rough for now.
By:
By:
Felix is the 4th best player in the world going by the rankings, but never made a slam final and never won a masters, won three 500's.
By:
Definitely hope with Fonseca. Would love it if he became that player that truly pushed Sinner and Alcaraz (assuming they both stay fit)
By:
Is Queen Zheng back ?
By:
I was biggin' up Fonseca for ages, not where I thought he'd be by now.
Draper would definitely be mixing it with Sincaraz if it werent for injuries. That needs to be a trilogy otherwise it will be boring for the next 10 years if it was just those two. |
By:
I'd say Fonseca has had a good year before the injury.
Had that match where he really pushed Sinner. Then the comeback against Djokovic at Roland Garros. Always possible to overrate wins against Nole, but I thought he was good that day and it takes big balls to beat him in such a match. |
