I think the last slam of the year deserves a thread of it's own

Novak same half as Alcaraz, Carlo's draw to the Semi's is very soft maybe bar home fave Shelton in the quarters.
Zverev looks good for another Slam final looking at his cakewalk draw.

Sabalenka has a pretty clean run to the Semis, where Svitolina or Muchova will probably be waiting.
Bottom half has Andreeva / Iga / Osaka / Rybakian / Gauff

It's been a long jounrey, but let's hope Sorana's last ever slam goes well and she's not dumped out by some mug.

Kind Regards.

Sori does it like you're supposed to. Announce it ahead of the season, have a full year of soaking in the cheers, enjoy it and play relaxed. And not leave fans wondering. Same with Gael, Stan etc on the men's tour.

I wonder if Sorana would play another year if she won the US Open
Report TheCarambaExperience September 4, 2026 5:19 PM BST
She's been quite clear that the decision is final, despite playing better tennis than ever before.
She must be of strong principles because she's leaving a lot of money on the table, by not playing next year with that ranking and form. But I can respect that.
Report mesmerised September 4, 2026 5:24 PM BST
I would prefer if she did actually retire this year, as realistically, it's not going to get better than this year, a good way to out, finally breaking top 20 after all these years. She has a big hitting game, always felt there was at least 1 slam semi in her.

But yeah as a fan, her staying true to her plan will be the best ending instead of going out with a whimper when injuries or Father Time take a toll on her.
Just saying that it must be tempting to carry on for financial reasons. But I don't think she'll do that.
Report mesmerised September 4, 2026 5:46 PM BST

I am doing what I did before, in a slightly limited ability as they only allow me to bet at Slams and even that with restrictions. So I'll be here 12 weeks per year including qualies as long as they don't put me on further restrictions.

It's frustrating to have to scale down because I like my wettquotens.

But I have been thinking about scaling down to around 100 days per year rather than working 350 days per year for a long long time, but the day to day wettquotens were always too good for me to give up.

But now that it's been forced upon me it's easier. So maybe it's a good thing in the end.

I'm still working out the details, but the plan is to work what I can which is the big events which are the Slams, golf majors, some NFL mainly the playoffs, plus one-offs like big boxing fights, Euros and WC and US presidential elections.

well sure, but this business is like no-other when it comes to customer service. This place no exception, they ban edy from the phorum and still won't tell him what he did wrong. Did they other get back to you about those disappearing posts?

Report TheCarambaExperience September 4, 2026 9:50 PM BST
peak Zverev might have been a threat, but with him struggling against journeymen I don't see who will bother Carlos. Maybe Fritz if he's back to his peak level, I haven't watched him, but scorelines have looked impressive.
Report mesmerised September 4, 2026 9:55 PM BST
no, that was weird, they were perfectly normal posts that contained no banned words, yet they were both deleted in nano seconds for no apparent reason, I have no idea why.

When they suspended me for 30 days, the treatment was ridiculous, they did not tell me what I was banned for, did not tell me how long for, and did not send me any kind of message whatsoever, I had to go out of my way to email them to ask those questions, even then at first I was met with a counterflow email, had to keep knocking on their door to get answer, only then did they tell me.

I can't imagine what edy could have said that would have warranted a lifetime ban, I can only assume the moderator which read whatever post of his that was reported, did not understand the context of the discussion, as that was the case with me.

I wonder what the top brass would make of moderators banning customers from their forum platforms who've been here 15-20 years, I doubt they have any idea.

When I studied marketing, we learned that things like a forum was a good way to deepen the relationship between the company and the customer because it encourages them to stay on the platform and strengthens customers loyalty to the brand. Sadly Betfair just sees the forum and its contributors as a nuisance these days.
