but it's not just his legs.

so soon*

By:
Spizz mugging now.
By:
normal odds should be 1.07 right now
By:
at least Sinner isn't going into full body spasms after long rallies now.
By:
1.5 Sinner lol
By:
well done those keeping their eyes on the heat index nearing 5.0 and laying Spizz at 1.1x
By:
even with broken leg Spizziri shouldnt be 1.1
By:
Sinner back from dead?
By:
1.01 backers of Sinner safe :)
By:
but was it value? should have waited for 1.02 imo
By:
haha, value surely NO
By:
one of these matches where I can't decide if I'm happy about avoiding disaster or mad because I didn't end up with a better result.
By:
probably mad I didn't make more, given I said this yesterday.
TheCarambaExperience • January 23, 2026 4:39 AM GMT 39 degrees celsius expected tomorrow. Report•Quote•Block UserTheCarambaExperience • January 23, 2026 4:43 AM GMT Trying to figure out who is gonna melt in that. Mensik I think would, but luckily he has a 6 PM start. Sinner could have issues, unless they close the roof. Amanda maybe. Either of Machac or Musetti. Darderi possibly, he's already had the trainer on some this tournament. I don't know how Noskova does in the heat, so that's at least a question mark. |
By:
definitely a weird match to witness. a bit crazy how all the rules have helped Sinner avoid certain defeat
By:
they were always gonna give him some sort of a safety net given it was likely the heat index was reaching 5 at some point, but it doing so when it did was very lucky for him.
By:
if it came 45 mins later, Spizz might be up with a 4-0 lead in set 4 and two games from GSM.
By:
I read your post. it's all guessing though really with Darderi winning. but I suppose laying Sinner at 1.01 isn't going to cost you much and would have been rewarded handsomely for doing so
By:
what also happened is Spizz went into his normal challenger mode. Sinner still couldn't run for some points in the middle of that 3rd.
By:
By:
markets are funny though, it would priced this Sinner match the same even if it was a night session match and there would be no change of Sinner cramping drama. Then it goes absolutely crazy (1.1 Sinner to 1.1 Spizz in 5-10 minutes) for something that wasn't all that far fetched.
By:
I wish I could run like that 1 hour after cramping.
By:
What are the chances of his cramps coming back here?
By:
I suppose it would be unfair to call Bartunkova IJBABP given she followed up the Kasatkina win with an even bigger win over Bensic. But 0-5 against Mertens is somwthing. IJBTBP?
By:
Spizzirri was handling the conditions better than Sinner. as soon as they closed the roof the dynamic changed and Spizz didn't have an advantage anymore
By:
even in the 1st set long before cramping, Sinner didn't like the conditions. Balls were flying everywhere.
By:
the 1.1x on Spizz was madness given the stage of the match, the heat index going up and there being a 10 min break after the 3rd. Sinner wasn't going to tap within 10 minutes, as he knew he had the 10 minute break coming up to get his legs going, and there was always the chance of the index reaching 5 and the roof to be shut, even though Spizz was very unlucky it happened so soon. The only way this would have been a quick payout for the 1.1 backers was if Sinner literally couldn't stand up. And even then it probably would have taken three knockdowns for him to tap.

By:
glad I missed the sinner drama, had enough heat related muggery at shanghai to still last me a while
By:
"Another ten minutes in those conditions he would had full body cramps and he would have been done", says Jim.
By:
I bet Sinner can't wait for Djoko to retire cause when Djoko stops hogging the night session spots he can request them every night.

Naomi withdrew.

By:
We almost had a Novak 2020 US Open moment. Lashed out after a point and missed the ballkid by a couple of decimeters.

By:
Linda out.
By:
hey ww, Iga and Anna almost did your dream scoreline, 6-1, 1-6, 5-0 at the moment.

Naomi panicked upon hearing the news I'd tipped up Inglis to usurp her and promptly withdrew from the tournament.
Sorana's loss was all for nothing, mug Osaka knew she wasn't going to fit to carry on the tournament, reminds of Federer one year at the French who bent over backwards to win a match in 4 very close sets against Koepfer only to withdraw against Berrettini next round, he knew he was going to withdraw he just wanted some match practice and fitness before Wimbledon as he hadn't played much in his last year, robbed him of an extra 70k nearly and an extra precious 90 ranking points which was a lot for a mug like him. If he'd have played and beaten Berrettini he'd have faced Novak, maybe that's why he withdrew v Matteo, didn't want people saying he withdrew against Novak because he was scared. I don't believe there should be any walkovers as the player benefitting gains rest and recovery advantages, Koepfer should have been allowed to have faced Berrettini instead and Sorana should have been allowed to play Inglis. Though she's going to lose to Iga anyway. The argument that you've already been KO'd also doesn't stack, as we already have lucky losers into the main draw when they've already been KO'd from qualies. |

By:
The old men are heading home, Stan pointing to his head slumped on his chair after beating Gea sent packing and Cilic Bang losing to the 4th most famous person in Norway.
By:
Only mugs lose in qualies. Had Sinner gone out due to cramping today and Spizziri gone through, the people around Sinner might have given the young Italian-American, whose total prize money is just under $1M, an offer "too good to be true" to come with some excuse not to play the next round and give Sinner a 2nd chance and an easy path to the final as he won't have to play one more day matches in this kind of heat.
Plus when you lose you lose. Even the LL is a bit silly but I can understand tournaments not wanting walkovers in R1 so it's probably the best of bad options. |
