If they had just played on, they would have had about 45 minutes for the set. Plenty enough.

Wimbledon curfew sucks.

The curfew itself is ok, but that decision simply wasn't.

Though the curfew could be a bit flexible preferrably. Like let them play to about 11:15 if they are very close to a decision.

both are stupid, but today yeah the decision to stop in particular. I take it they didn't want a situation where they had to stop at 5-5 or 6-6 and have players come back and decide the match in 10-15 minutes, but there was a decent chance the match could have finished tonight so I think they should have absolutely let them play on.

The break probably favors GMP who will come back with a rather fresh arm tomorrow to throw bombs for 6 games and a TB. If we take king servebot for example, Isner, he would often do poorly in b05 due to tiring later towards the match.

The curfew is a bit silly but at least I get it. Throwing them off with 45 minutes to go is just lunacy. Crowd and players have every right to be aggrieved

I got the feeling Fritz didn't want to carry on unless they could finish the match tonight. they couldn't give him that guarantee so he opted to stop

didn't bother putting the volume up super higher to try to listen to the conversation at the net. did you caramba?

Looked like they asked Fritz if he wanted to carry on, and he did, but they said it couldn't guaranteed a finish so they said no, and he wondered why they asked him. Looked like he was gesturing to his team to say it wasn't his choice.

Very good to see so many Brits beating higher ranked players. I am always sceptical of home advantage in sport but it certainly seemed to be in evidence yesterday. Katie Boulter was not at her best but Badosa was awful for a number 9 seed. Norrie seemed to be nearer his old self while Tarvet and Fery showed huge promise for the future.

Home advantage helps a bit, but I think's it's more about the surface. UK players have played more on grass from a young age compared to players from other countries.

A good test of that will be if the ecstatic crowd can help Raducanu beat the 2023 Wimbledon champion in the next round. Certainly no surface advantage there.

While only Emma was getting front pages in the run up to the event the Brit dominance yesterday has meant that Boulter and even Tarvet have grabbed front pages today. Emma still getting the lion's share.

Front covers of UK national papers today
Tarvet - Front cover of the Times
Boulter - Front cover of the Telegraph
Raducanu - Front covers of the Guardian, the Daily Express, the Daily Mail

All 7 of them should have been on the front pages. It does not happen very often. Even Heather Watson seems to be catching the winning bug so far.

Cocciaretto is pretty good on grass. Not sure what the market was thinking there.

Jess not getting anywhere on EC's serve. And wobbly on her own.

that was a brutal miss away from 0-30

I think the market thought, " Woah, Jess beat Iga, she can't be beaten by EC ! "
By:

probably how it happened.

in general, unless you are a grass goat like Marketa, market has no respect for players with a better than average record on grass such as Zhu Lin or Cocciaretto.

Jess has stepped up a bit here in the 2nd, but EC is still playing really well.

Kostyuk takes the set but it's hard work.

Hevva has briefly stopped owning Tauson after taking the first set. She's still all over Clara's serve though and I can't see Tauson holding to love though for the rest of the match.

Jess with monster defending on that point and EC still won it.

Jess no errors in that game and EC still held to love.

I've layed the 1.8 Tauson, will bail if she takes the set, but too low too soon.

The British crowd don't seem to understand it's perfectly reasonable strategy if you lose a set to go to the toilet, read a Richard Osman book for ten minutes then come back with the momentum killed and break immediately.

Wonder what EC reads there, a journal, or words from others. Seemed to smile and relax. I guess a tactic to try to detach herself from the potential pressure of the situation

She's reading the Martina Trevisan handbook on how to always smile and look relaxed.
