Jess not taking advantage of her chances.

if jpeg does lose its not a surprise. theres a reason she went all out last week. she knows shes not winning this tournament

you can put taylor harry in that category as well

Broken to love ! Pegula touched her knee end of game 8 there and seemingly couldn't wait to get broken next game !

put all her effort into winning the bad hamburger slam

well deserved.
EC played a 10/10 match throughout it.
Jess 1/10 and in the first, 4/10 in the second but then back to 1st set level towards the end.

as was mentioned before ec seems to like the grass so the sp was ridiculous

another decent fav getting turned over is jovic. again not that much of a surprise. she used up her 9 lives in qualies the amount of matches she won that she could have lost

All credit to EC. Would have been a very interesting match of Jess had bought the standard she did last week. At times EC was unplayable though. You could see most of the tour going out against that level

pretty bad Slam record for Jess this year.
AO: early defeat against Olga, completely folding in the 2nd set.
RG: Good win against Marketa, but still wasn't able to take advantage of a great draw, losing to Lois in R4.
Wimbledon: Completely outplayed in R1.

relative to her rank she's been shocking in the slams this year. us is what shes aiming for though and she can go deep there and will certainly not be playing full tilt the week before
By:

When: 01 Jul 25 12:17
You can say she was outplayed but also

Pegula touched her knee end of game 8 there and seemingly couldn't wait to get broken next game !

She was nearly in the semi final two years ago so absolutely a contender for this. The fact that she spent the weekend before Wimbledon fighting it out with Iga for an effectively meaningless title is mindblowing. It's not the same as a young Rybakina going all out to win Strasbourg before RG. Jess is running out of chances to win a slam.

if she thought she was a contender she wouldnt have mucked about in germany last week
By:

same for Fritz. he can say what he likes but he doesnt believe hes winning this
By:

When: 01 Jul 25 12:19
otherwise you dont go all out in a minor tournament the week before
By:
Angela Rebecchi
When: 01 Jul 25 12:20
Fritz is surely never winning a slam.
By:

never. no chance

Yeah I'm not dismissing the event with its very appealing trophy. It is a 500 after all. I thought it made a lot of sense for Iga to take it seriously with the year she's been having and her poor grass record. It made zero sense for JPeg and going out in round one here always seemed a real possibility.
By:

When: 01 Jul 25 12:31
it made sense for jpeg in the context of for whatever reason she didnt fancy herself here

The WTA is really at fault for always trying to lure top players into playing the week before majors by putting a WTA500 right the week before them. Don't see that nonsense on the ATP Tour at all.

It's like the WTA deliberately wishes to sabotage its product on the biggest scene by having their best players more exhausted and less adapted to conditions at the slams than they should be.

theres always at least one collapse a day in the wta and heres todays with the promise of more to follow. from a set and a break ahead kostyuk has been awful and this is against a player who could only beat appleton in three sets in the last round of qualifying

Kelly looked concerned, and Mark Merklein didn't seem to be saying anything much to her despite her being on the verge of exiting SW19. maybe they knew something was up before the match even started

WTA all about the short term gain it seems. Jess knew what she was signing up for though, it's not like she's 17 and naive. also could have easily tanked out of Bad Hamburg if she'd wanted to
