the cutoff yes, but not the seeding so if you're top 32 this has relevance.

caramba I thought of a funny game yesterday but then came to conclusion it's alot of work so you & edy probably wouldn't be interested, but I'll explain it anyway..

between now and Wimbledon women's singles final day (July 12th), including today there's 25 days to make picks before the Saturday final arrives.

the game is that on every day between now and then, you have to select 1 player who you don't think will win the Wimbledon women's tournament. so that's 25 picks. if 2 of us play, we can only pick from the WTA top 60. if 3 of us play, we can only pick from the WTA top 80.

the aim of the game is to not pick the winner. the dynamics will change between then and now as the days tick by, so today you may think Kasatkina has no hope of winning Wimbledon but 3 weeks from now you may feel differently. you have to navigate the constantly changing dynamics over the course of the next 25 days and the winner of the competition is the one who hasn't selected the actual winner. we'll only find out who the winner & loser is on July 12th when the final is decided.

we can only select a player once, so the player pool of 50 will be constantly diminishing as each day ticks by, making it harder for us to select a player who won't win.

thoughts?

of course if the winner of Wimbledon women's ends up being a player outside the top 50, we'll automatically both win.

also when we know who the semi finalists and finalists are it'll be funny to look back on the thread and see that, for example, I picked Ons Jabeur on June 18th after she got destroyed 6-1 6-0 by Jasmine only for her to win Wimbledon 3 1/2 weeks later and make me look like a total idiot Laugh

Fonseca is about 2 years away from being a factor, tobias. the market consistently overrates him, whether he wins or loses today

we could make a rule where you can, on say 2 or 3 occasions, make 2 picks one the same day which will count for that day and the day after?
By:

When: 17 Jun 25 14:58
make 2 picks on* the same day

so what do you reckon? we could trial it starting today, use the top 50. then if it works well we can do it next year with more participants? well, unless edy turns up in the next few hours and likes the ides

there's definitely some skill involved in winning this game, but also you'll need a bit of luck

how do we treat withdrawals? Legal picks as long as they happen before there's been an official announcement?

I hadn't thought about withdrawals. has anyone from the top 50 withdrew from Wimbledon that we know of (as of today)?

no I don't think so.

the only withdrawal I can find thus far is Kalinina and she isn't ranked top 50

I was gonna pick Parks, but I didn't wanna hate on your fave.
By:

When: 17 Jun 25 15:50
ok, so if we're going to do it I'll setup a thread in a few mins. with 2 of us needing to make 25 picks each, that means we'll use the top 60 of the current WTA rankings this week, which I'll include the full list in the thread. if this goes to plan we'll make 50 different picks between us over 25 days, and there will be 10 players left unpicked (if one of these players wins Wimbledon then we both win). or is top 60 too easy? should I make it top 55?
By:
TheCarambaExperience
When: 17 Jun 25 15:56
top 60 is good imo.
no others allowed? we could make it top 85/110 if so.

well we need people who will be willing to make picks on a daily basis for the next 25 days. edy might want to, but can't see anyone else wanting to? and we can just test it out for this grass season to see how it works?
By:
wisewords
When: 17 Jun 25 16:02
if it's just the 2 of us, we should do the top 54 to make it super challenging so by the end there will only be 4 players total unpicked. or top 52 so if we've done it perfect on July 12th the 2 players we haven't picked will be in the final Laugh
