Smaller amount of physical exertion in chess yes - not zero, if you watch players short on time or in speed chess, but maybe similar like you say for something like darts which is not about strength.

If someone accepts ruling out other 'sports' then the argument against chess as sport is stronger. Where it also wins though is against other sports that use 'judges' for the winner e.g. Ice skating rubbish, or even...boxing Laugh

if tennis had judges Roger would have won 35 Slams.

you must be fishing, sitting down and pushing wood in a largely pre-arranged game is never a sport in a million years, it is just a game, at the top level, scripted for two thirds of it.  Even that aside, the fact you can agree a draw after a few moves which has happened many many times, means it's ruled outCool

If you ever played high level sport or very competitive chess, it's quite an experience (I've played to a mid-competition level myself nowhere near the greats and grandmasters.

It's an intense game, and can certainly feel quite physical at times in stess points after hours of play. Sure I'd agree it has a different quality to it, but so do many other 'sports'.

It has the intensity of 'sporting competition' for sure, just as much as many others, and more than some do IMO.

`for someone who claims they're 50/50 on it whether it's a sport or not, you do a good job of promoting it as a sportLaugh

You stand chess up, a board game, againt sports that tick every single box, then it's not, football had phsyical and mental stamina requirements, technical and tactical elements, chess has barely any phsyical requirements and you're really pusing the envelope now now talking about how much they sweat after a while sitting on their backsides to validate phsyicalityLaugh chess has mental stamina but no real phsysical exertion and no technique, tactical yes, but no techniquem, no phyical prowess needed. Look at the state of some of these fatty's who play chess - and they can play until any age, is Kramik and Kasparov sportsman now, they're still playing albeit sporadically, but they could be full time if they wanted.

I wasn't a believer but with Novak you have to throw logic out the window a bit with your betting.

Novak hasn't done anything against the rules but his opponents should be
wise to his regular episodes of unsportsmanlike behaviour. It is disrespectful.

most people watching Eurosport have no idea Lim was once a player, remember Mats even saying he'd never seen her play before.

ah, I didn't know but that was the case last year. They need to change the Nottingham slot in the calendar.
