#Canadian tennis post

Bianca @ 4.3 would seem big if she was fully fit. How fit is she. Answers on a postcard, no way of telling so it's definitely one to watch a few games first. Some of her social media posts in 2024 have seemed like early goodbye messages to me (but that's just interpretation of course.)

Leylah gets a pretty good draw for once through just creeping into the seeds. Ideally she wouldn't be up against a French player though in round 1 but she could get through, maybe with a scary tiebreak set.

Maybe. These are pretty boring games to put on while play is suspended on all other courts. We could have had Gaston vs Shelton ...

It's a match with a few question marks for me, but I think it's a somewhat fair price. Zverev won the Rome Masters in the most recent big clay tournament prior to Roland Garros, but he generally hasn't been in eye watering form during the clay season and didn't have to beat anyone of note in Rome. He also has had some tendencies in the past to have trouble finding his way into slams (i.e. struggled against players he should be beating easily). If not for Zverev's own struggles for form, I'd think the price would actually be on the high side against a Nadal who has shown little during this clay season that he can still compete with the best on the surface, which Zverev belongs to.Another question mark is Nadal's fitness and ability to go the a long distance. Total unknown to me as he simply hasn't played any long matches in a while, but I'd lean towards him not being able to do it.As for the match up itself: Zverev has a negative head to head with Nadal, but he has beaten him on clay (fast altitude clay in Madrid) and also ran him close for two sets at their latest encounter at Roland Garros. Sadly Zverev ruptured every ligament in one of his ankles during the second set tiebreak. Zverev generally likes playing left handers as his backhand is his far better wing, especially when it comes to returning.....All that said.....as SamuelMertensBertens wrote.....it is Rafa Nadal at Roland Garros (and I think this reputation is another reason that keeps the price higher than maybe it should be on level of play and match up)

indoors now. Not good for Rafa.

poor line call at 2-3 second set in the Tsitsi match to make it 3-3, ball well on the line as shown by cameras but she called it out after looking at the wrong mark, tournament in the stone ages still

To me the hawkeye for that call looked long.

That the second serve was well on the line as far as the sideline was concerned, but slightly too long. Hence correct to call the double fault.

Everyone's second favourite Georgian, Gorgodze, had won 11 of 13 games to go up 3-6,6-1,5-1, but then didn't win another game.

Naomi Broady is gonna teach her kids to play tennis left-handed like Uncle Toni did with Rafa.

The lovely voice of Naomi Broady has been replaced on R 5 Live by a female commentator with the weirdest accent. Don't know who she is. but she is bit hard to listen to, tbh.

Allez Fils! A set and a break down and heading for a hat trick of losses to Arnaldi. Buoyed by the crowd's energy he turns the set around! 1-1

Olddal was 1.46 to win a set against Zverev at the French, if someone would have told me that a few years ago, I'd have thought he'd have one leg

No, he is not a real Georgian. Bolkvadze is #1. Gorgodze then #2 for lack of any other known Georgians.

I'm fine with him staying at 2. Labadze cost young inexperienced arber caramba quite a lot a wettquotens with his retirements.

However I'm surprised you forgot about Anna Tatishvili, a top Karen in tennis who took Roland Garros (ITF?) to court and won.

Henri Squire and Purcell both choking late in this match like they are GGGs.
