Plucky Brit Dart is darted out of the tournament

Half the field backed Linda N (who is very lucky that dart engaged full plucky mode and beat herself)

I'm glad Erika's match with Sabalenka is tomorrow.
She can at least say she lasted in the French Open for 3 days. |

Star dust going well against Busker, think she's the first player in the draw to be born in the 2000's

rain expected up until end of thursday so she might last even longer

Go Erika!

If Rafael Nadal skips Wimbledon, does that solidify Wimbledon as the 4th Slam?

In terms of prestige, whether you like grass or not, and I don't, it has to be the number 1 slam, French Open second, it's the hardest slam to win on physicality alone, US open slam has the lowest quality play, players all knackered back end of the season and half of them on the beach, Australia is where players are the freshest, 1. Wimbledon, 2. French, 3. Australia, 4. US open
these mug masters trying to be 5th slams with their 2 week events are going to find that top players might start skipping them more and more, it's hard enough reaching a slam in full fitness as it is. |
By:
Indian Wells is okay. It does have that special ambience. The second weeks of the two Spanish 1000s seem to go on forever though.
By:
From a fitness stand point the two week masters should be easier on the players. It's one more match, but spread over double the days. I think players are primarily grumpy because they have to stay at the tournaments for double as long while receiving about the same or even less payment.
That, plus maybe having to schedule training blocks or off weeks in slots where otherwise they'd receive handsome appearance fees from a smaller tournament. |

You mean Madrid and Rome? Madrid only Spanish masters

Rybakina had a big moan up about the extended events

Ah yeah Rome's in Italy.

Journeyman outed as Andreas Möller.

There is no definite proof of him actually having had said it and he himself denies it, but the former German international is widely attributed to have said "Milano or Madrid. As long as it's Italy."

I'm surprised players are pulling out of R1 of slams, just turn up, limp to the end, and pick up an easy 73000 euros
and the all important 10 ranking points |
By:
Dodin has obviously earned far too much money to turn down 73 grand for a couple of hours work
By:
They used to, then they got fines, but have seemingly silently got rid of those fines since getting challenged by Tatishvili in court so yeah now players should feel safe about doing this again.
By:
that's what I was thinking, I would have to be seriously injured to pull out, if you've only got a niggle, or something that you can hide, I don't see why not even true, O'Connell pulled out as well
By:
Under the "fine era", and I haven't heard this changed, O'Connell would get to keep 50% of his R1 check for withdrawing before his R1 match.
By:
The idea was that players would rather do that then play injured and risking a bigger than 50% fine for showing up in poor condition.
By:
never knew they kept half the money for withdrawing, well that makes sense if they are carrying a serious knock, what a great life being tennis player
By:
the 50% rule is still there

as are the rules about fines for poor first-round performance. It just hasn't been enforced in nearly 5 years.

Fine Botic please.
By:
doesn't fit into any of these criteria:
Factors that may be considered by the Referee in making such a determination include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. the player did not complete the match; 2. the player did not compete in the 3 week period preceding the Grand Slam Tournament; 3. the player retired from the last tournament he/she played before the Grand Slam Tournament; 4. the player was using a Protected or Special Ranking for entry; 5. the player received a Code Violation for failure to use Best Effort. ![]() so far. 1 might still happen. and 5. |

By:
If Botic isn't fined for this then they might as well do away with the rules
By:
I haven't been watching Botic, but there have been plenty instances from 2019 and later where players should have been fined for poor effort/condition and haven't. It's not good that they still pretend these rules exist when you have some honest players who rather take 50% rather than hobble through a match.
By:
With Dodin maybe she would indeed have been fined as she meets the criteria you listed about having had retired in their latest match pre-slam.
