You should be thanking him for being honest, you do realise how many players deliberately lose Round 1 matches, it's been happening for decades, they turn up for the prize money and tank because they have somewhere else to be, it has always happened and it always will.

We have all been burnt by situations we know nothing about, there have been plenty of stories over the years after the event, that players tank a round so they can fly back home and attend the birthday party of wedding of a relative/friend etc, and God knows what else
