guess Roddick got unfair criticism for getting owned constantly by Federer

7 years isn't really 1 generation for me

I think Keys probably has the most potential of that lot to dominate. I'm not convinced she will though. She can still go either way for me. Of course champions mentality is heavily untested so far. The rest I'm just not sure their upside is anything better than Azarenka, Kvitova, Wozniacki, Radwanska.

It shouldn't be Aaron. My point is people seem to count that entire block as the new generation so if you take that of course they will be more successful as you have way more players on your side of the bargain.

hoping Belinda-TT can be repeated on a bigger stage, that was a goat match

I actually think Bencic is a bit overrated. I'm not convinced by her at all at the top end. She's actually pretty lightweight in terms of shot, this tends to make things very tough at the top end. Her attitude is also pretty poor for a youngster imo, she is very stroppy on court. We have seen players turn this around, but I don't think she will be the superstar some have lauded her to be.

apart from keys, who has been v.inconsistent there isn't an under 20 player ive seen and thought they were close to being a top player
By:
yeah sounds like Belinda was getting mad a lot vs Goerges

I'm still kinda confused at Donna turning up and having a bit of success at such a young age

Re: the men. It's clear that generation isn't as good as this one. But that doesn't make them bad, just this one has been incredibly good. I think it's clear at this point the only way they will break through is when the big 4 decline.
Same is going to happen with Serena though. The only way anyone will inherit the mantle from Serena will be down to Serena declining. |

Tunisians seething hard

is who gives Serena the toughest matches an indicator of anything or is 2/3 matches irrelevant to the big picture

i agree with tunisia, and withdraw my comment it wasn't a fix.

lol @ the penalty

2 mins injury time, 1.30 of bench scuffle then fulltime, injury time played = 0

I wasn't just basing that Bencic assessment on the match vs Goerges. I've thought that for a while but just not really said it, because I guess it's a somewhat controversial opinion.
She just doesn't convince me in the echelons she's been talked about. The lack of power is a huge issue imo, and it's not like she's an unbelievable mover either. |
By:
seen bencic 3 times i think, good but not exceptional imo
By:
Keys had a good 2 weeks and had a great week at Eastbourne but then has had some bad results too. she has a very high ceiling but there is little subtlety to her game as that FO stat indicates
By:
The big picture is surely how you are doing vs everyone. And that's kind of my point Aaron. That players Halep and younger have won 1 tier I between them.
I feel if some of these players were as a good as they are made out to be at times they would have done more. Because certainly by 20-21, Azarenka, Kvitova, Wozniacki, Radwanska had done much more. By 21 they were all comfortably in the upper half of the top 10. |
By:
My feeling right now would be we haven't seen (or at least I haven't seen) the next player to win 10 grand slam singles titles. Could be wrong, but that's just my opinion.

By:
what about to win 5?
By:
will Vika or Petra do that?
By:
Er one of them probably will, Petra obviously favourite right now.
We don't really know what the post-Serena era will look like yet, mainly because we don't know when it will be. |
By:
The Petra being favourite right now can quickly turn if Vika ever gets back to top form. Because when Vika plays well she's incredibly consistent.

Petra to win 5 Wimbledons
![]() ![]() |

petra might win 5, but wimbledon only comes once a year and 1 hard court title looks about the limit atm.
vika could if she can stay fit |

hibbert about to get the win if u bet boxing

For sure they are playing Welshie. In post-Serena era it will come much, much easier to win 5.
By:
Like of those 17-23 as previously mentioned, almost certain at least one of them wins 5 grand slams.

By:
first to 5? i'm not her biggest fan but i'd say bouchard
By:
First to 5 from those who currently have zero?
By:
feels like Wimbledon is Petra's to lose if Serena is out the picture
By:
By:
first to 5 has to be Ka Pliskova
By:
Tbf from those that have zero that is actually an extremely good question and tough to answer, because I think you can honestly pick almost any one of the contenders. I don't look at anyone and think they're absolutely nailed on going to win a grand slam, so pretty much anyone could win 0 or 5 in my mind.
So not to sit on the fence I will pick Keys. |
